Sooo..hopefully May doesn't flame out because Worley seems pretty crappy and Hicks could've used a year of AAA, which makes the Revere trade look a bit tainted. I was onboard with it at the time but missing Revere as of late and was always a big fan of his. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

Revere has a .288 OBP for the Phillies so far, so I think the trade isn't working any better for them, either. Regarding Hicks, his stats still look bad, but he has been much better as time for on. After hitting .113 in April, he was .202 in May. In 25 June at bats so far, he's at a respectable .280. I think he just needs time.

Do the twins just see collobelo as a AAAA Player? He continues to rake in Rochester and every time he's called up he never really gets a chance to play.

He hasn't been good but he's on their big league roster unlike the guys the Twins got in return. I'm not saying it was a bad deal, but it could be if May doesn't pan out. I don't have a problem with the trade though and not really complaining

No matter what you think of Revere, he was a valuable trade piece that has yielded much less than most of us thought. I thought Worley was a number 4, with occassional number 3 starts. I am really surprised by this. May, otoh, is exactly what every online scout/expert said so far. Right now, and it is too early, right now, the trade looks like a waste of a valuable trade asset. And I'm surprised by that.

 

What would be really nice is more good pitching in the minors, but it seems like a lot of 8 run games against lately (but maybe that's just the last couple of days).

Berrios needs to step up tonight in the Quad Cities. The Kernels' 'magic number' for nailing down a playoff spot (finishing in the top 2 of the first half) is 1.

Maybe, but I don't think that's true. But right now, the situation is that Doumit's crushing the ball at DH and C, with Mauer likely the other DH. Morneau could DH sometimes, but also plays colabello's position of 1B. When he doesn't play, they're committed to Parmelee, so he'll get the ABs. And, sure Colabello has played maybe 8-10 games in RF, but that would probably be a last resort type of thing.

...With 5 games to go... So, not sure Berrios is carrying the world on his shoulders... More important is recovering from that last start. There's no question CR is going to the playoffs. Would be great for them if they can win the division title though. That said, CR's schedule is much more difficult than Beloit's.

Sometimes trades work out for both teams...this looks like one that worked for neither...too soon to write off May but not looking good. With Parmalee, Arcia, Hicks up now and Buxton in 2015 there was not gonna be a spot for Revere anyway...

Haha, point taken. I admit those still aren't great numbers, but it's a sign of steady progress that he's improving month to month. Also, Hicks has hit 6 homers, which is about 4 years worth for Butera.

I'm sorry, but Revere was not a valuable asset. The fact that we got May and Worley for him is quite impressive. I suspect Vance will eventually figure things out and return to his form, though he's going to be more of a 4/5 guy in the AL than a 2/3 guy that we had hoped. As for May, top of the rotation stuff, but lacks control... This too is exactly what we thought we were getting, and he's going to take some time to develop. Haven't looked that closely, but it does seem like his walks were down.

 

Revere is a one tool player... defense (and yes I know that is not a tool). His offense is abysmal, and much of his defensive gains are limited by that noodle he calls a right arm. I'm not sure what people expected to be able to get from him, but a contact heavy hitter with poor plate discipline, no power, great defense, and a lousy arm isn't going to net that much. The fact that we got a back of the rotation starter and a flawed AA pitcher with upside for him is pretty impressive.

I'm not sure either team should be writing this trade off at this point. Not quite getting the dejection on May either. He hasn't dominated, but he's been a pretty decent pitcher for NB.

I'm sorry, but that is not true either. Revere has a track record as a good hitter. His weaknesses in terms of plate discipline, bunting and even gap power are areas that a young player could improve on. He had trade value, the trade to the Phillies largely proved that.

 

As others have said, it is too early to evaluate this trade. Worley could and probably will bounce back to what he was in the National League. The sky is the limit for May, and though he may not reach his potential, he was and is a good gamble.

 

I largely liked this trade at the time, although I thought many Twins fans undervalued Revere. I still think it will be a good trade for the Twins, but time will tell.
