What is the possiblity.....a different Boras client

Hi TD,

What do you think is the possibility of having a different Boras client sign with the Twins?  How about Clayton Kershaw?

I know he is a Dodger at heart and from the heart of Texas (somewhere)... But, we can dream.  After all, who thought that Correa (Boras client) would sign with the Twins.

What would it take?  2 years $20M per year; 2 years $25M per year?

Our take is that we'd like him to pitch, at most, 140-150 innings per year (Rocco's 5 innings per outing) and keep him healthy with that workload.

I wonder if the FO is even asking the question...Would you like Kershaw at 2 years, $20 or $25 M per?

I haven't been interested in free agent pitching, as I'd rather trade for young controllable arms that aren't yet past their primes, but this is an interesting one. He's still an elite pitcher, even when factoring in the ten or so starts he'll miss.

There are only three free agent bats that interest me, I suppose if the Twins don't go after any of them, Kershaw would be a fun free agent to land.

Kershaw is going year to year. It's common knowledge that he prefers to pitch for the Dodgers or for Texas (he's from Dallas and has a home there). I guess if both the Dodgers and Rangers pass on him then maybe the Twins could get involved.

Money the team has more or less said they aren't spending.

We can dream.

Kershaw isn't the answer. I live in LA and follow the Dodgers as my second team. He's a gamer but he'll only give you 100-120 innings a year and he's not be good in the playoffs. We're not going to pay the freight and much as I hate to say it, he isn't worth the cost at this stage of his career.

Kershaw is kinda the expensive version of Rich Hill at this point.  Could be interesting on a highly incentive laden contract but it's a real gamble.  Don't expect over 100 innings and you are rolling the dice he is healthy for the playoffs.  Even then as good as his career is he hasn't been good come October, I wouldn't want him to be more than the 3rd or 4th option and he will probably get paid much better than that.

The old dude that won't go away I am kinda interested is Grenkie.  He has always been one of my favorite non Twins because of the weirdness.  Wouldn't give him more than a show me deal with a chance at the 5th spot but if we are senior home dumpster diving I would enjoy this one.  Should take much less money than Kershaw.

I love Grenkie, graduated same high school.  He has pitched so poorly of late, that I'm not sure he has value as a starter. Keep thinking back to Archer, Bundy (hope for 5 good innings).

I look at Kershaw in the same way we've looked at Maeda, Kuechel, and even Ober (hopefully not Ryan); where there seems to be a ceiling on the number of innings pitched.

Been a Twins fan a long time, I remember when Viola, Gaetti, Hrbek were single A training in Orlando (Tinker Field).  This the first time ever where it seems like the Twins can deal from strength (ie many talented infielders).

Trading Julien for a "Lopez-type" pitcher is like lightning striking again; Arraez was AL batting Champ, then NL Champ.  Would it take Julien to be the batting champ to get that Lopez again?

They have 15-20M and that's without removing Polanco or Kepler.

They're going to sign someone.

We keep hearing that a trade for a pitcher will happen, with Pablo Lopez held up as a model.  Pablo wasn't earning league-minimum when we got him.  The guy we get this time probably won't either.  With other holes to fill, that leaves several million to spread around, not to concentrate in one individual.

We'll see.  They have the wherewithal to pay someone a lot, but not the inclination.

Could be, and if that's where the money has to go, I'm still game. Most of the pitchers I'd like are younger and I'd pay the premium in player equity. Both parties willing of course.
