Fangraphs positional power rankings: Twins ranked 2nd at CF

If Buxton has over 550 ABs this season, we damn well should have one of the best CF groups in baseball. I'd argue everyone who might play even an inning at CF for the Twins might have a higher slugging % than Nick Gordon, and I could hear the yelps from basically everyone on this board at the idea that Jake Cave will play there (or frankly anywhere) for the Twins this season. (I gotta say, the odds of Cave being on the roster go down substantially if Buxton clears 500 ABs! JMO)

The complete Fangraphs positional rankings for the Twins:

Catcher: 20
First Base: 21
Second Base: 7
Third Base: 17
Shortstop: 1
Left Field: 22
Center Field: 2
Right Field: 8
Designated Hitter: 20

Any thoughts? Some too high, some too low? You can see their projected playing time breakdowns at the links too.

One person’s POV:

Elite: SS and CF

Top 25%: 2B

About Average: RF, LF (Kiriloff), 1B (Kiriloff), 3B (Arraez or good Urshela), DH (good Sano), Relief Pitching

Bottom 25%: C (used to be between Average and Top 25%), 3B (bad Urshela), 1B (Sano), DH (Sanchez or bad Sano), LF (Rooker), Starting Staff

So, is this a team that can contend?

By the trade deadline if we are not contending (I hope we are contending!), our starting lineup will be:

Kiriloff (1B), Polanco (2B), Urshela (SS), Miranda (3B), Larnach (LF), Buxton (CF), Martin (RF), Sano (DH), Jeffers (C), Arraez (super utility), and Gordon and Celestino (other bench).  Sanchez gets DFA’d, Correa gets traded to a contender for strong SP and/or SS prospects (depending on Lewis) plus quality C depth, and Keppler gets moved for other prospects.  Urshela is traded in the off season for salary relief and relief pitching.

Great  that it said the Twins would be better off if they had kept Astudillo.?

As the article notes, a lot of these rankings are underwhelming because of the questions surrounding Sanchez, Urshela, Sano, Kiriloff, and whatever happens with the DH. Each of these players could have good-very good seasons, to the potential for the entire lineup to be top-10 is real.

Good point, a lot could change with these.

And welcome to the board!
