Dead at age 47. Cause of death not yet known. Wonder if this could be related to steroid use? Sad either way; and too young.

How sad... and what a weird career Jeremy had... I didn't realize this about his career until news of this broke and I happened to check his B-Ref page. I remembered him being a pretty good player for a short time who just dropped off the map almost overnight. And after looking again, that's pretty much exactly what happened.

Over two seasons in 2001 and 2002, Jeremy Giambi posted a 134 OPS+ over 841 plate appearances. He was worth 3.4 rWAR over that period of time. That's a solid MLB player by any measure.

In 2003, he received only 156 plate appearances and never played in MLB after that season.

My assumption is that when his PED use ended, so did his ability to play baseball at the major league level.

That's definitely possible, I only found it surprising that he never received another chance at all.
