If you're a righty sitting in the low 90s, you have to have a great offspeed pitch, and be able to locate your fastball with perfection. So far, Ober looks like he can do neither

Opting not to play the game as you normally would is not "respecting the game".

So in your world, you just keep piling it one, regardless of the score or opponent?

He could have stretched just a little less, then. The ball hit the heel of his glove. Not that he would know, since he looked away.

You think him stretching less would have helped him catch the ball that was just a little bit out of his reach?

"This is the best-pitched 4-run deficit I've seen in a long time, I'm serious."

I kid you not. Roy said this.

A hitter "normally would" attempt to improve his team's outlook for plating runs, no?  Is there any other scenario where a hitter would not be attempting to improve his team's outlook for plating runs?

Rationalize any way you want.  A hitter may try to go the opposite way for a base hit, or swing from the heels to hit the ball 450 feet.  Both ways he's trying to improve his team's chance.  So spin it any way you want.

I think you're straining to make excuses for a misplay that was clearly catchable.

He did indeed say that, and he reasoned, if I’m not mistaken, that the white Sox were missing hittable pitches. What a doozy

Here’s my take on the homer in the ninth last night. It’s ok for Rocco to be upset about it but he should have kept it to himself, He sounds like a whiner. Larussa however shows a lot of class by speaking up about it.

The error will be changed and charged to Sano

Now can we say prospect fail?

Sure.  Would you also call Berrios a prospect fail?  The line in his first ever start is pretty similar.

Berrios--4 IP, 6H, 2BB, 5ER, 5K (11.25 ERA, 2 WHIP, 11.25 k/9, 2.5 k/bb

Ober (so far)--3 IP, 4H, 1BB, 4ER, 3K (12.00 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, 9 k/9, 3 k/bb)

In my world, hitters hit.  As long as the losing team keeps playing, the winning team should too.  It's not the winning team's fault the losing team can't get them out.

With the lob balls willans was throwing up there, I felt like I was watching one of those trick softball games they used to show on espn back in the day. The king and his court I think they used to be called. Let’s see how far we can hit it out. Yermín did exactly what he should have done to that side show.

Everyone thought it was entertaining to watch the chubby fun-loving guy throw the eephus. I thought it was embarrassing, especially considering it’s not the first time he had to pitch

In a vacuum, that might be a fair comment.

With the constant sugar-coating of an awful season coming from these guys (in my opinion), maybe not so much..

I agree. Always try to do your best. No matter the score or inning. That is the game. And you play for the fans. They deserve your best effort. If a team sucks, that is on them.

Dude, not rationalizing.  I'm saying if the normal way the game is played is for hitters to attempt to get runs across the plate, then watching 3-0 meatballs sail by is a hitter acting in a way the normally would not.  I think it is disrespectful to the game and your opponent to not do your best, and in my opinion, grown men shouldn't be upset over another grown man giving full effort.

Umm, this guy has passed away.

But can his curse pitch? ?

Babe Ruth was the greatest hitter of all time.  He was suspended many times.  He could have more than 800 homeruns.
