AllhopeisgoneMNTWINS Provisional Member Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 [h=1]Angels Close To Signing Joe Blanton[/h] By Tim Dierkes [December 5 at 6:30pm CST] The Angels are close to signing starter Joe Blanton to a one-year deal, according to tweets from Joe McDonnell of FOX Sports and Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times. Blanton, 31, posted a 4.71 ERA, 7.8 K/9, 1.6 BB/9, 1.37 HR/9, and 44.6% groundball rate in 191 innings for the Phillies and Dodgers this year. The near-signing raises the question as to whether the Angels' rotation is set, with Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson, Tommy Hanson, Blanton, and Garrett Richards, and without Zack Greinke. Happy about this. I did not want him in a Twins Uni.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I wouldn't want him in a multiyear. Signing him to a one year and flipping him in July would be OK.

Blanton has a proven track record of being a #5 pitcher and that's all he will ever be. What could you possibly flip him at the deadline fore?

Alex Verified Member Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 2 year 15 million dollar contact.....Thats the latest update. OVERPAID. Appears to be the market so far. Hope it doesn't stay that way but it is somewhat surprising considering the number of pitchers out there.

Top Gun Provisional Member Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com hears that Joe Blanton's deal with the Angels is for two years and $15 million. Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register says the deal also includes a team option for a third season. Previous reports said that the pact was only for one year, but apparently that's not the case. Blanton posted a 4.71 ERA in 2012 for the Phillies and Dodgers, which was his lowest mark in three years. It's possible that the Angels could still be in the hunt for another starter even after acquiring Blanton and Tommy Hanson, but this should effectively rule them out for Zack Greinke.

My my is Baker's deal looking better by the day.I guess. The Twins probably wanted Baker on a second year, and would not want Blanton on a second year, esp. at that price. Market or not, the Twins need to acquire assets they can at least trade while they tread water, Blanton on this deal is not it.

Which we should have made happen IMO.
