I wish we'd have pitched him scared a couple innings ago.

 

Well that just wasn't smart pitching to him that at bat. Can't hang offspeed stuff like that to a slugger.

Perez still has really good stuff. It's command, and some poor choices, that are hurting him.

 

Disagree he has good stuff. He throws hard sure, but lacks a solid breaking pitch and hitters have learned to lay off the cutter. There's a reason he has a 4.5+ career ERA and had a 6+ ERA last year.

Back from dinner. Nice little NY strip off the grill, medium rare, baked kabucha squash with butter 'n brown sugar, salad from the garden. A glass of a delightful little Portugese red blend.

I think Polanco moves really well at short, but yeah, his arm is lacking.

 

He's been doing just fine there this year.

Agreed. Is it my imagination or does Perez actually kind of stink? I don’t think we need to worry about overcrowding of the rotation if we can pick up a starter in a trade. They can replace either Perez or Pineda. Frankly, I would be tempted to replace one of them with Smeltzer now so at least we can get more innings.

 

Seems like this is the next test for Wes Johnson Can he help the pitcher adjust to the league's adjustment to him?

Not a good night for Gonzalez. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that Cron only would have hit two homers.

Tbf he did get screwed on the strikeout in his 2nd AB and it should be a 4-4 game right now

Fun with numbers:

 

Garver/Castro: 12 Dbls/ 18 HR/ 43 RBI/ .295 Avg/ .389 OB/ .629 SLG/ 1.018 OPS

 

Those would be cleanup numbers for a lot of past Twins teams, and wouldn't look bad for any team at this point in the season.

Agreed. Duffey does have the better FB. Only reason I can think of.
