Darius Verified Member Posted May 15, 2019 Posted May 15, 2019 (edited) not really. And this is a reminder for people already clamoring for him to be the next guy up for the rotation: He missed a full year in 2016. In 2017, he only pitched 40 innings coming off injury. In 2018 (his first year in full-season ball at age 19) he threw 102 innings. He's only made 38 starts in his professional career. That arm is a prize, and if we want him to develop into a top starter let's not get crazy. If he can throw 140-150 innings this year, and stay strong all season, he'll be in a great position for the franchise. at age 21. Shame about Nick Gordon getting hurt again. Hopefully it isn't lengthy, because he'd gotten off to such a nice start when he finally got back into the lineup. He's shown the ability to really hit when repeating a level, so it's been my hope that last year was an adjustment year and his start was a hopeful sign that might be true. The arm is a prize. It’s easy to think it about in the exact opposite manner: He’s throwing the ball as hard as he ever will in his life. Right at this moment. That’s being put to use for something called the Blue Wahoos, while the Twins are legitimate World Series contenders if they can add some dynamic arms. It’s not a matter of if his arm is going to blow, it’s when. Why not use it before it does? Bring him up in the second half, have him go every 5th day in a tag-team with Pineda, similar to early in the season with Perez. Or, have him as a 6th swing man to spot start based on match-ups and be a long guy. That way, you limit his innings (as well as possibly Berrios/Perez/Gibson), keep him somewhat stretched out, get him accustomed to a playoff race, and get the best arm in the system to the major leagues. Having him at your disposal in a playoff series would be ideal. Edited May 15, 2019 by Darius
Jham Verified Member Posted May 15, 2019 Posted May 15, 2019 Just taking care of him arm. No worries. Also remember he left his last start with the concern about his trap, so I'm sure they were going to limit him in his first start after that.He has to be on our playoff roster if it looks like we'll make it, right?
rdehring Verified Member Posted May 15, 2019 Posted May 15, 2019 Got a question for Seth, or whomever may know. Are we getting close to Lewis moving up to Pensacola? And could they be waiting for Javier to come out of EST so that he can go directly to Fort Myers?
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted May 15, 2019 Posted May 15, 2019 He has to be on our playoff roster if it looks like we'll make it, right? Maybe... but that would be a good reason to limit his pitches now.

No I don't think he's going to Ft. Myers directly. And, Lewis has been playing better of late, so it could happen at any point. I don't think it's's imminent by any means. rdehring 1

sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Thanks for being that guy, so I didn't have to. I bite my tongue pretty much every time I see it. Biting one's tongue hurts. Please be careful! And i'm glad you all are successfully reining the reigning in in a bit. And thanks generally thanks for these updates! I ain't following anything as close as is my want these days.

jkcarew Verified Member Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 I think some of us, Seth, are way beyond patiently waiting!I wouldn't say I'm waiting for Lewis to be promoted. I thought I might be, but I'm not. Instead, I'm waiting for Lewis to show some progression offensively. We're approaching the 200 PA he had last year at this level, and he's under-performing his (decent, not great) results from last year...including striking out more and massively struggling in the SLG area. It would be great to get a report on his defense, because that would have a material impact on how we view his overall progress. But, offensively, he does not appear to be anywhere near ready for a promotion.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Your wont. * I'm being that guy again - you're welcome.Ah, but i will (um... my will?) Er... i feel i should offer some baseball insight as well, seeing as this is not a game thread. I think i am patiently waiting, but my patience is inordinantly expanded by doing other things while i wait. * Thanks! I needed that. Is it still wont if it is plural? Like satisfying all one's wonts, once and for all? ashbury 1
