Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 I have yet to see the movie ... didn't want to spend any money during the strike, and post strike have just been so, so, so busy ... but ... am going tomorrow ... We went last Wednesday, as I’m finally mobile enough. Now I hear they’re re-releasing it next Friday with some additional mid-credit footage. The last ditch effort to beat Avatar’s box office.

I hadn't seen Captain Marvel at the time the strike ended and needed to see that first (which I thoroughly enjoyed) ... and then just haven't made it back to the theatres since then. And of course it's no longer playing in the ones closest to me, but still in a theatre downtown.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Finally saw it ... no tears were shed ... but there was a little welling.

I would give myself a massive headache holding that in before shedding that many tears in public. Not that there aren’t a few movies out there that have gotten to me, but that wasn’t one of them.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted June 23, 2019 Author Posted June 23, 2019 Oh, I was pretty openly sobbing during Cap's segment of the movie. It was such a great send-off to the ultimate human ideal of a character, which has resonated with me since I was 8-9 years old. Tony Stark's send-off? Didn't even get my eyes wet a little. I love the character, love the actor, love the character arc, but he's not a person I want to see succeed. He's just an arrogant douche that I kinda love but don't have a lot of emotional investment in seeing die.

Got to admit to welling up a bit when he snapped his fingers clearly taking one for the team... Honestly, Romanoff dying to get the Soul Stone was probably the most emotional for me. Both her and Clint were my favorite avengers by far. Watching them fight for the right to die hurt a bit.

Hocking Verified Member Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Yes - I am kind of the same with Tony Stark, thought the actor did a good job, but was not that upset that he died, although some good acting when he looked at Strange and knew this was it. Also kudos to Paltrow and/or the director for her subdued, not scenery chewing, good bye. It was very effective. For some reason don't really care about the Peter Parker - Tony Stark kind-of father figure type relationship. I am not sure they really needed to bring this Spiderman into the Avengers mix for these movies. The Soul Stone scene probably was the emotional moment of the movie, although Thor's scene with his mother, and Captain's send-off were up there. I figured there would be at least one big real death in this movie. Prior to its release, I was betting Captain A would make some sacrifice of his life, so I was relieved he made it through, and possibly a reason I was not as saddened by Stark's death, I was relived it was not CA. Considering how much they were juggling, I thought they did a pretty good job of wrapping things up. The cast seemed to give it their all until the end, and Downy Jr. and Evans had a nice good bye to characters they played for the last ten years.
