No More Peanuts and Cracker Jacks?

If you can show an allergy to the SHELL of sunflower seeds that can be airborne and make attendance at a game impossible for the sufferer is the most dominant strain of the allergy, then sure, we can have that conversation.

Cracker jacks should be in the clear then.

I think this could be controlled by having the peanut free concession stands and sections as stated above. The vendors working at those stands or in those sections wouldn't and shouldn't be handling peanuts.

Also, it's on the allergy sufferer to carry his/her epipen.

Epipens are far from a guarantee.

My daughter's friend accidentally ate a bite of a cookie that had peanut butter in it at a sleepover (it was in similar packaging to the safe cookies). She immediately took two doses of Epi, but still, sadly she was dead before paramedics even arrived.

I can only try to imagine the level of terror and paranoia and stress that would come with having a child with such a severe peanut allergy. Any public or private place that chooses to ban peanuts is just fine with me. I love peanuts and peanut butter, but it doesn't harm me at all to go without it until I get home.

I used to work with someone that would get terribly sick from just touching peanuts let alone ingesting them. What most don't know is that antihistamines are often more effective than epinephrine which is basically just a shot of adrenaline. Many people that use them over use them and not for the right reasons.

Don't get me wrong though Epinephrine is an effective, potentially lifesaving drug — but it can also kill you. Two consecutive shots of Epinephrine would dramatically increase one's blood pressure to the point that it could trigger heart arrhythmias, stroke, or a heart attack. People have committed suicide with epinephrine injectors before. The fact is it is EXTREMELY RARE to die from peanut allegeries, in fact it's almost unheard of despite all the web stories.

That said, I have no problem with a peanut free section, but the entire stadium seems extreme to me. Ultimately though it's up to the team in my opinion.

Former Twins' affiliate (Rock Cats) that moved a few miles North...

I know enough people with bee sting allergies, but I haven't seen a place banning bees.  Individuals can control what goes in their mouths.  For someone who is vegetarian, peanuts is about the only choice of getting protein in a ballpark, and banning them is inconsiderate...

add low carb to that list too... they are a snack that those of us who don't eat bread/sugar/pasta can eat.

Is this common sense, an overreaction or a club trying to get publicity?

I vote B and C

In general favoring kids' health over cranky old SOB's is a good idea. :)

I disagree (said the cranky old SOB)

I rarely buy from stadium concessions anyway, so they are free to ignore me without consequence. (I might even make a trip to the peanut-free stadium this summer - we are already planning a long road trip that way.)
