Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 David Dorsey from the News Press (in Ft. Myers/Naples) wrote a nice article on Royce Lewis. The article includes video as well. He writes about what Lewis did with his signing bonus. What he's been happy with and disappointed with in his play so far. A little about his background, and much more. Very nice article. http://www.news-press.com/story/sports/2017/07/19/royce-lewis-baseballs-no-1-draft-pick-goes-against-grain-fort-myers/465631001/
70charger Verified Member Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Most instant millionaires splurge on something. Lewis, 18, received a $6.7 million signing bonus from the Minnesota Twins. But he hasn’t bought a car or even a pair of sunglasses yet. Nor does he have a driver’s license. He said he stashed the bonus in a trust fund and is living off his minor league salary, about $850 a month. Most heralded baseball prospects invest in real estate or rent a nice condominium. Instead, Lewis chose to live with his teammates in a college dormitory-like academy at CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers. Most No. 1 draft picks carry large social media followings. Lewis isn’t on Twitter or Facebook. Only two weeks ago did he join Instagram, at the urging of his agent, Scott Boras. That's the kind of person most 30 year olds wish they could have told their 18 year old selves to be. I wasn't even half as responsible with a far lesser pool of money.

h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Pretty lucky kid. Never had a job of any kind. 18 and doesn't have a driver's license. Pretty protected young man. But he knows how to work hard at playing. It seems to be working. His first job has paid him well so far (at least the signing bonus). May we all be so lucky and get to work hard at playing and our dreams. May he make me forget about Hunter Greene.......

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted July 21, 2017 Author Posted July 21, 2017 Pretty sure that day when Bob Sacamento say Lewis called into Borrega's office, it was to talk to Dorsey... and Berardino... and Miller... Miller's Lewis article: http://www.startribune.com/twins-top-draft-pick-royce-lewis-embraces-the-gulf-coast-league-grind/435707603/ Berardino's Lewis article: http://www.twincities.com/2017/07/20/twins-top-draft-pick-royce-lewis-is-making-the-transition-to-pro-ball-look-easy/

Granted I have been pretty cash strapped for the past decade
