I'm very pleased with Royce Lewis but thought I'd follow the other pitchers in this draft. Looks like none of them have pitched to date. It was announced yesterday that Hunter Greene will be starting in A ball. Very interesting

Is it Low A or short season A? If the latter, would be similar to Elizabethton, not uncommon for advanced hs guys.

 

On a side note, does raise the question again whether or not the Twins have the best arrangement of minor league team levels.

It's short A/Rookie ball.

It's Billings, in the Pioneer League. It's officially rookie league, so I am not sure why some are calling it "Class A" (and I am not blaming the poster here, I just read a news story which called it "Class A" too):

And that's from the Dayton, OH newspaper -- the home of the Reds' actual Class A affiliate. You would think they would be aware of the distinction! Cincinnati doesn't have a short-season A affiliate (B-Ref calls such teams "A-").

So when LaVelle filled in on kfan last week, he said that the Twins dropped Greene from their board after they had some of their veteran pitchers watch him when he worked out here. The pitchers that watched him told the FO that he was not a pitcher, he was a thrower.

I'm a little intrigued at who said vet pitchers were. Any of the plugged in bloggers know?

 

Will be interested to follow this kid and see if the Twins made the right call on him or not.

The side note would be a very short thread  by itself. Some teams have the short season A and/or an additional rookie league team. The rookie and short A teams are all about the same average age of players so it does not look like short A is being used for players out of college. In essence it looks like it gives  teams more players to look at for organizational filler. If a team or two were having  success developing late round players with the additional teams somebody would be writing about it.

I'm super excited to follow Gore's career more so than Greene. I think he is going to be special.

To be fair they said he is a TJ risk if he is not developed properly and strengthened his lower body. I really like these guys, they do solid work but they're also super nit picky and point out problems with pretty much every player they analyze. They were not fans of Berrios from last year and they were very critical of Wright and McKay.

I've seen them listed as Rookie ball as well as A-

What is the reason teams wait to get HS pitchers going after the draft?  Is there some form of side field "spring training" going on.  I know Greene just signed a week or two ago, but this question is more in regards to the pitchers the Twins drafted early.

Probably want to get some work in at extended to get the arm in shape before they send him out to games. Doubly so since he was shut down early in his hs season.

 

One of the drawbacks of signing late.
