King Provisional Member Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=min Just came out today. Thoughts?
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Thoughts? They grossly devalue IFA at lower levels. Arraez at 28 and Javier at 17, in this organization is a joke. They think that Jorge will end up a starter with that ranking. Biggest surprises are two pitchers who we do not know whether they will pitch professionally (for different reasons) Thorpe at 18 and Jax at 30.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Looks ok. I have Gonsalves a bit lower but that's just nit picking. I thought Garver might be a bit higher.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Yeah, nothing looks too far out of place on the list. Can't complain.
FormerMinnasotan Provisional Member Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 The only thing I was a little surprised in was Griffin Jax at #30 over Tyler Wells. I think Wells might be a better prospect but I am sure that is debatable. Other than that I can't disagree with the list.
Han Joelo Verified Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I keep meaning to ask--how did Javier's signing bonus rank? He was ranked 9 or 12 before signing, just curious where he fell in the actual "cash" draft. How big was his bonus compared to others who signed that summer?

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Third, if BA is correct. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/top-40-international-bonuses-of-2015/#v0xYB88IAo80KhrD.97Or 8th, if you count Cuban prospects (and I don't know why you wouldn't at this point, since they are subject to the same bonus pool).
beckmt Verified Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Jax is a high level talent that is devalued due to his Air Force commitment. I think that plays out this summer and we see what his availability is. Outerwise he was a much higher talent than where the Twins drafted him.Rest of list was nitpicky, but nothing really stands out as bad or overreach, with the Twin graduations most of hitting talent is now at very low levels. Most of upper level pitching talent needs to take a step forward if Twins are to compete in 2018 or 2019. Other choice is Twins will have a buy at least 1 or 2 upper level pitchers. We can afford it, but is not the normal Twins way.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Or 8th, if you count Cuban prospects (and I don't know why you wouldn't at this point, since they are subject to the same bonus pool).Yeah, I just didn't scroll down all the way to see the Cuban players. My bad.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Yeah, I just didn't scroll down all the way to see the Cuban players. My bad.No prob. Two of those Cubans (both Yoan's -- Moncada and Lopez) technically signed in the previous 2014-2015 period, so they shouldn't really be on the list either. More accurately, I guess Javier's bonus was the 6th highest for the 2015-2016 signing period.
