Messed up rosters

I was just looking at the Rochester roster. Currently they have 2 listed outfielders and none listed as CF. (I assume that Rosario is in center...) They also only have 24 men on the roster, no third basemen (Buck Britton and Stephen Wickens have both spent 100+ innings at third and Briton has more than that in the OF) or Short Stops listed (Wilfredo Tovar has 400+ innings at SS and appears to be the primary SS atm) but they do have 6 second basemen listed (Polanco has spent almost all of his time here and none at SS).

Beresford has actually gotten starts at 1B and DH this year too.

A lot of org filler types on that roster right now, like Britton (and Beresford, as much as we love him), it pretty much doesn't matter where they are listed or where they play, they really are just warm bodies to fill out the lineup.

Regarding the 24 man roster, I imagine a lot of minor league teams play shorthanded like that at times.  They have a 7 day disabled list, and it probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense to shuffle in another guy to take that spot for such a short time.  Dave St. Peter's infamous downplaying of the 25th man on the roster is much more applicable to minor league clubs than MLB clubs.

(Now, for a guy like Alex Meyer, who's not on the DL but hasn't pitched in a month, that's another story...)

Unrelated, but the roster page also linked to the Rochester walk-up music choices:

Not sure how walk-up/entrance music really works for a starting pitcher, but I think Duffey is my new favorite Twin.

I wouldn't mind seeing Dan Runzler's entrance song get promoted too, but I might prefer if it accompanied a different player. :)

That's pretty normal in AAA. They need veterans to try to 1.) provide some wins for the affiliate and 2.) to be depth, org depth. Several of those types aren't going to probably make it as starters in MLB, so giving them flexibility is smart.

Britton's played a lot in LF. Wickens has always played some LF over the years. Tovar is definitely the SS. He's still pretty young. When he's been there, Polanco has played pretty much only 2B. Beresford has played 3B, 2B and 1B. It's a good thing. The prospects play their position. Others just fill spots.

Not sure but Red Wings just signed another outfielder assigned to AAA from the Independent league. The same thing going on at the major league is occurring in AAA. The team is 2 wins 4 losses against Indianapolis. Quick fixes... They move 2 prospects up due to injuries and then take on another outfielder who will need to get play when people return. As it is Wickens came off the bench yesterday after almost 2 weeks and like most of the team went 0 for 3. Brought up thru the Twins organization he has always been very consistent and this year started hitting homeruns 3 this year in first 50 at bats...but then he started to sit. He had a good spring training which gave him opportunity to move to AAA. As posted above Wickens has played almost all positions in previous years but this year warms the bench when other "filler veteran players" and prospects continue to swing the bat. Goulik ( senior poster) called this "opportunity" in a previous post. Keep bringing in more veteran players and do not let your home grown Twins player attempt to excel.
