Hometown Hockey: Justin Morneau

This is a very cool five minute video story on former Twins 1B/MVP Justin Morneau.

In it, he discusses loving both baseball and hockey. His opportunities in hockey. Why he wore #33, and what superstitions he had. He also admits something at the end, saying that he can talk about it now that he's not with the Twins anymore...

I'm guessing Twins brass won't be surprised. Ha!

Hasn't been a Twins player for a while, but Morneau will always be a Minnesota Twin!

Thanks for sharing, darn good Canadian kid.

Not sure how many know this but Morneau's Dad George was quite the hockey player in his day as well and actually attended training camp with the North Stars a couple of times.

That's it, I'm changing my alarm.  :jump:  Besides, who wouldn't jump at the opportunity for an extra three minutes of sleep?

That's why I wanted to be #33 in hockey and baseball as well. Patrick Roy was a great player to watch growing up.

I just read this on his wikipedia page, and he may have mentioned this on the video too...

"Morneau had a superstitious routine on game days in Minnesota. Before each home game, Morneau stopped by the same Jimmy John's Gourmet Subs, on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota and ordered the same sandwich from the menu: Turkey Tom with no sprouts. Later, he drank a slurpee from a slurpee machine in the Twins' clubhouse made of one-half Mountain Dew, one-half red or orange flavor"

Do we respect him less for his choice of Jimmy John's before every game???

Never realized he had risen all the way to the WHL - pretty tough for a Canadian kid to walk away from that.

Makes me like Patrick Roy a little better.

One of my top 5 all-time Twins is Justin Morneau.

Patrick Roy is my favorite player ever in all the 4 major sports so my love for Morneau grew the minute he took #33 because I knew there was only one reason a hockey fan/former player takes that number. That reason was obviously Roy.

Loved this video because I got to see two of my favorites.

This has the merit of being logically unassailable.

On a related note, I once sent an email comment to friend that was somewhat sarcastic in nature, and I put the note in parentheses. He responded, "if an email is composed entirely as a parenthetical, can I completely disregard the email?"
