"Get a reliever" isn't the goal.

 

"Get a reliever who is an asset to a team trying to contend" is the goal.

 

"Get a reliever" is what they've tended to do in the past, which is one reason they're always needing to "get a reliever."

 

I would agree... but I would still say there are plenty of them out there yet.

That's a scary back end of the bullpen for the Dodgers with Jansen and Chapman... Still doesn't make up for the loss of Grienke yet.

MLB trade rumors is now reporting that the Chapman deal is not complete yet, and that other teams are still in the mix.  Curious.

I thought it was odd that there was such a delay in announcing who was going to the Reds in the deal.

Texas is willing to trade relief pitching for starting pitching... and the Twins have Tommy Milone.

 

Obviously, he wouldn't fetch the Twins much. But when paired with one of our blocked guys maybe they could snag a Jake Diekman type? Just pure speculation. Texas is probably imagining a much sexier trade for a sexier SP.

Milone is a perfectly acceptable back end of the rotation pitcher, unfortunately the Twins already have those (and a lot more guys with upside) in spades.

Texas would certainly be a good fit for him, possibly the Mariners as well. In a perfect world I would try to figure out how to trade Milone and Suzuki for Mike Zunino.

Milone should move to the newly created "pitch 120 innings, innings 5-6" out of a quality player, not a random AAAA player role that teams will be adopting soon, and the Twins could lead that change.
