College Football Playoff

Name one good team Iowa beat this year.

Crushing way to lose? They let Michigan state march down the field when it mattered the most.

It's a shame the two best teams (Bama and OU) will have to face each other in the first round.

It is hard to lose games when you only schedule one decent non-conference game, get creampuffs from the eastern half and play in the Big Ten West.  Iowa especially had the perfect schedule to go undefeated so far and they squeaked through their schedule.

I also don't think MSU is the best team in the East but that is how it played out.

I actually think (pound for pound) MSU is the third best team in the east, trailing OSU and Michigan.

Northwestern and Wisconsin on the road, Pitt. Never slipped up against a garbage team unlike your beloved Oklahoma.

I meant crushing as in slowly and methodically taking the life out of you on that final drive.

Iowa had many breaks not go there way, and they were still in a great position to win the game. Great season by those guys.

I thought the B1G Championship game was the best of the bunch yesterday. Rivals be damned, I was cheering for Iowa to pull off the win. Too bad they couldn't find a way to stop MSU on their last drive.

None the less, MSU is a good representative of the Big 10 for the college football playoff, and will be cheering for them now to win it all.

The problem is if you want an 8-team playoffs, logistically, the first round has to happen this week.

MSU/Iowa has made for some entertaining football today. Alabama versus the 4th best SEC team, not so much.

The bloated conferences are nothing more than cash grabs, and the misnamed "Conference Championship Week is a major part of it. The Pac-12 was much better as a 10 team conference where everybody played each other and there were no excuses. The Big 10 made for better football when Ohio State had to play Iowa instead of Rutgers in conference play.

At some point, something has to give.

Of course they were cash grabs and the Big 12 is going to join them sooner than later by getting back to at least 12 teams.  But they aren't going back.  No chance.

I have also mentioned the logistical problem of expanding to 6 or 8 teams but I can't see how this committee making critical decisions about something as important as this can last.  Even if they could support a selection of OSU or Stanford this year there is almost no way that they can pick them.  And every time they have to make a tough call like leaving the Big 12 out of the Playoff last year they are one step closer to a new Playoff system or selection process.

Again 6 is the obvious fit for the current structure.

It rewards the best two teams with a buy, and allows the big 12, PAC 12, big ten, acc and sec all to get auto bids (the big 12 needs to pick up 2 more teams and get a conf champ though)

The 6th team allows a Notre dame, BYU, etc to get in as well (or a one loss non conf champ)

So you are saying they beat no one, northwestern and Wisconsin are both bad teams this year.

Wisconsin has lost three games: to Alabama, Iowa, and Northwestern. Northwestern is 10-2, ranked #14, and allowed 6 points to a Stanford team that everyone loves.

Oklahoma beat what ended up being a garbage Big 12 by the end of the season this year.

I'm a Big Ten fan and will probably root for MSU, but Connor Cook seems like a total "you-know-what" and that Archie Griffin trophy snub was pretty bad.

Also, how in the world did he even get the mvp. He was terrible. LJ Scott or Shalique Calhoun probably should've gotten it.

Yet they beat them both on the road...

True to form, the powers to be did what they could to have an SEC team in the championship game by pitting them against the weakest of the 4 teams.

OU and Bama are the best two teams, this sets up the ideal scenario for the championship game IMO

Also they couldn't keep OU at 3 and GIVE them a home game in Dallas.

If anyone is interested, I posted some thoughts and photos, etc., from my trip to Indianapolis over the weekend for the B1G Championship over at Knuckleballs.

I typically repost many of my Knuckleballs posts here at TD, but rather than do that for a non-baseball article, I thought I would just mention it here.

Sigh.

Every year bob stoops seems to do this to me.

Big 12 sucks. One national title in 15 years, I have seen the light!

Well, that Oklahoma loss was pretty predictable.  Clemson was clearly the better team going in and going out. 1K more in the bank for me.

Two snoozer games today. Hopefully the championship game is better than the two today.

I was more impressed with some of the other bowl results so far, specifically a team like Houston knocking off Florida State caught my eye.

I think OU found out what happens when they play a team that plays a little defense and isn't starting a backup quarterback.

The NCAA has completely butchered the dates of the playoffs this year. First round of games on NYE, where most people were busy with their own engagements. Now the Championship game tonight, 1 day after the Wild Card round in the NFL.

I'm sure every sports news outlet is breaking down yesterday's games, not building up this game tonight.

TBH I would have completely forgotten that the championship was tonight if Bing didn't suggest reading an article about it on my home screen.

Sounds like I missed a good championship game last night. I watched until about half time and got side tracked. Didn't watch the exciting 4th quarter. Anyone tune in last night?

Nope, no cable.....

All ESPN has covered since this am (from what I can see when I walk by the break room at work) is the NFL.....the NCAA will be forgotten in a day or two. I don't know anyone that watched the 2 previous games. Someone must be.....
