Dream Trade Candidate Yasiel Puig

One hit wonder? Puig had a 4.1 WAR in 2013 and a 5.3 in 2014. In 2015 (his "bad year" which he played half the time) he still put up a 1.5 WAR

Looking at the numbers his K% BB% were pretty close to the same, ditto with his GB vs LD vs FB numbers, his soft% was up a couple percent.

However the big thing that sticks out is that his BABIP was down 70 points total, this to me indicates it was a healthy amount of bad luck and thus he is an excellent candidate to bounce back and post a .900+ OPS

One other note: He can play all 3 OF positions as well, though you wouldn't want him to be your everyday CF, he could play there if needed for a few games.

It would take more than Arcia to get him for sure, but I think the risk is well worth the potential reward, he instantly would become the clubs 2nd best hitter behind Sano IMO.

OK, 2 hit wonder :)

I agree it would take more than Arcia, but I think that has to be the framework of it to even begin to make sense for the Twins.  If Puig is out of favor in LA as suggested, you could probably do that.  Giving up the farm for him, no I'll pass.

Our problem really isn't OF right now.  We have the Mauer problem, and that problem really isn't fixable.  We need a C, lots of pen help, and to figure out our SP situation.  Replacing one question mark (Arcia) with an admittedly better question mark on the cheap, I'm fine with.  Sending away a guy like Kepler in the process... not so much.

I would take Puig in a heart beat on this team, and agree that he's a perfect buy low candidate to acquire. Even with his recent down year that was hampered by injury, he still posted a .758 OPS. Better than any player the Twins threw out in the OF this season. Not to mention he may have the best OF arm in the majors.

LA has Rollins, Kendrick, and Utley as pending FAs. One of those spots will be filled by Corey Seager. Maybe there's an interest in Dozier?

Proposal: Dozier + (Thorpe or Gonsalves) for Puig. May take less depending on how far out of favor he's become in LA.

One other note: Puig also allows you to eventually trade one of Hicks or Rosario once Buxton is ready.

I don't think it would cost Dozier to get Puig honestly, if Donny Baseball is back, Puig isn't back. So I guess if we are hoping for this pipedream we need to root for LA to make a run?

Gibson+Arcia+B prospect for Puig?

We have a hitting problem, as much as I liked Hicks and Rosario it should be noted that neither posted an OPS+ even at 100. As mentioned above, Puig also allows you to move one of your OF potentially to help in other areas.

I would trade Kepler for Puig straight up in a heartbeat. The Twins would be foolish to turn an offer like that down.

I wouldn't trade Kepler for Puig straight up. Why would we give anything of value for him?

Because even with this down year he has a career 141 OPS+?

Because he still has one of the best arms in baseball and is one of the better RF defensively in baseball?

Because he put up 10 WAR in his first two seasons?

Because he instantly becomes our 2nd best hitter behind Sano?

Because he will only be 25?

Because he is under team control until 2020?

It's mind.boggling. that you even have to explain this.

I'll take Kepler's production+the money saved over the next 6 years over Puig. I don't really trust the guy. He's a basket-case that can't play defense at 24yo. Kepler is the polar opposite.

He's + #s in RF but so would almost everyone else. That's why he has -defensive value #s

except for our RF this year....and who cares! The twins already have CF covered, all we need from him is to be + in RF.
