The elephant in the room - Umpires

So they don't throw inside now, how does a robot umpire change that? I do agree, the law of unintended consequences makes me wonder what might change. But to me, I'd rather an even, fair, strike zone existed. And I think robots make that more likely.

In no way am I suggesting that balls and strikes cost us the game yesterday so please don't come away with that impression.

However... That missed third strike on Didi right before the home run was huge.

If the ump gets that right... No Home Run... Two Outs and maybe the Twins wriggle out of it with a zero hung.

I believe things tend to even out in the long run but in that moment... it was a huge call and the aftermath was 3 runs on the scoreboard and it was a one and done game with little chance for the law of averages to make that up.

I just want Balls and Strikes to be correct and automation is the only way it can be done. The human eye can't do it.

I realize that if last night's game was automated... We might find that Santana got the benefit of some strike calls... maybe even in the fateful Didi at-bat... but... by itself... that specific missed strike call cost us 3 runs.

Please automate the calls for 2018

The "missed" strike 3 call was a momentum shift for sure. I still think the umps did a good job last night. Called a tight strike zone, and kept it fair on both sides.

Severino could have the same complaints. Kepler got the benefit of high strikes called the other way to draw a full count and smack a double. He was pretty close on a few pitches against Polanco too that ended up being a walk, and a 2 run bomb by Rosario.

Santana missed his spot by over a foot and may have barely touched the bottom of the zone. I had no problem with that call.

I admittedly didn't focus on the location of every pitch after the 5th inning, but I really only had one quibble, the called second strike on Castro on the 1-1 pitch that was outside. Flipped a key at bat.

Strike one in that AB was actually outside, so they cancel each other out.
