Berrios for Swihart.

For those opposed, what is it that you don't like about Swihart?  He looks pretty solid, a 23 year old switch hitter with zero question about sticking at the position, 6 more seasons of control, consensus preseason top 20 prospect with a 117 wRC+ after his first month in MLB this year (92 overall).  Out of 30 catchers with 220+ PA this season at Fangraphs, Swihart ranks #14 in wRC+, right around Lucroy and Norris.

High BABIP?  Red Sox hype?  Valid concerns, but Swihart looks like he will be a MLB catching asset for awhile, you'd have to at least consider it, no?

I am opposed because they'll never pay top dollar for pitching, Meyer isn't good, Stewart couldn't strike out Seth, so Berrios is their best chance to have a top notch pitcher for years.......

I don't think there is any way Boston does it. THEY will go pay top dollar for pitching, why give up a very good C who is young for something they can just buy?

Why do you think/assume that anyone doesn't like Swihart? He has awesome potential and will quite possibly be a star. I'd trade basically anyone not named Sano, Buxton or Berrios for him. But that's just the point. Any trade has two sides of the ledger, so asking about just one half is kind of pointless.

I am guessing that for almost everyone here who wouldn't do this deal, it has very little to do with holes in Swihart's game, and everything to do with not giving up the first Twins pitching prospect since at least Liriano who has routinely dominated the minors and has the chance (and yes, of course it is only a chance) to be a #1 or #2 starter.

Thanks, makes some sense.  But I'm not sure that Berrios should really be in that Sano/Buxton "untouchable" class, where you don't even consider dealing him.  He seems like he's a step down from "elite" prospect, a guy you have to consider trading for the right fit.  And given our organizational catchers, Swihart *could* be as close to the "right fit" as the Twins could find right now.

Although it's hard to say, Berrios' stat line certainly suggests he's kicked it up a notch at AAA this season, would be nice to have some MLB data on him by now...

It sure would be nice to have some MLB data on him by now. Agree with you there. Although he has struggled a little bit at a new level before, so even if he comes up Sept. 1 and has one or two bad outings, I'd want to see him longer than that before I'd downgrade his value.

I would consider trading Kepler plus more for Swihart, and I LOVE Kepler. I just think Berrios has outperformed expectations at every level, and clearly has a fantastic makeup. That doesn't guarantee anything, but I think it gives him as good of a shot as any pitching prospect of reaching and possibly exceeding his expectations.

Can see the reasoning, but other assets can be used to buy a catcher(San Diego has an extra and would not cost as much).  Cannot see Boston doing the deal, but frontline starters are a much greater asset than very good catchers, no thank you
