Buxton

Someone has to play when the starters get their needed days off, and I guess I prefer when they perform in those limited opportunities. Robinson is a pro, perfect for that role.

We all like performance, but I don't like to bank on 10 starts worth of mostly singles from a guy with Robinson's track record when making playing time decisions in a pennant race.

He's a fine 5th outfielder. But that shouldn't mean 3 starts a week (Hunter's caddy lately). Buxton can be the 4th outfielder / Hunter's caddy. If his bat comes around, he's got a much better chance of sustaining an .830 OPS and being a postseason asset.

To be fair, he wouldn't probably be if Aaron Hicks wasn't hurt.

Yeah, I am not criticizing that decision of the past week-plus. The context of the comment was playing time going forward, after Hicks returns.

Buxton looked solid at the plate today IMO, a double and a hit that should have went up the middle for a single.

When Hicks is back the playing time should be as followed:

Hicks: 99% of games.

Rosario: 85% of games (sit against the occasional tough lefty)

Buxton: 75% of games.

Hunter: 30% of games

Robinson: 10% of games.

If Hicks hadn't gotten hurt, Buxton would still be in the minors and Robinson would still be getting the same amount of time.

Buxton came back up because Hicks got hurt.

Who plays the missing 1%?

If you thought he had much shot at being a .270+ hitter this year you weren't paying attention.  He's not a pure hitter and never will be, but I'll take saving a double on defense over hitting an extra double.  Also lets forget what we've seen from Sano out of the gate cause that never happens.  And lastly he's still at 81 at bats with an injury splitting that in half.  If he turned 1 strikeout into a homerun and got a favorable call on one of the close plays at first his #'s would look fine.

I would toss Plouffe or Mauer in RF in case they are needed in the playoffs/world series (no DH)

Is it just me or has he looked terrible at the plate? Also, I don't know why but the eating of sunflower seeds while bating drives me nuts!!! He's at the plate spitting them while the pitch is being thrown.

If the sunflower seeds is part of the plan to wean him off dip, then I'm all for it.

Chewing them while actually batting doesn't bother me too much. He's probably got nerves and it gives him something to channel that nervousness. Probably is not affecting his plate appearance.
