They're made to order aren't they? Like MyBurger and Smash Burger?

I don't know MyBurger or Smash Burger ... they are made to order as to what you want on them, but you can do that at McDonald's, too ... you just have to wait longer for it.

Pretty sure all burgers are made to order at Five Guys. That is a step up from pre-made heat lamp style places like McDonalds, etc. To me that is fast food.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean 'made to order' ... it's not like at a restaurant where you order the kind of meat, how well to cook it, etc. ... it's no different than going to say Epic Burger, if you've been there ... I have both those in my neighborhood and I absolutely think of them as fast food ... maybe a step above McDonald's or Wendy's in quality of ingredients ... but still, not really that much different in terms of speed and service

Okay ... according to Wikipedia ... take it for what it is ... places like Five Guys are considered 'fast casual' as opposed to just 'fast' ... and the difference was what I thought above ... they promise a higher quality product, but is still serviced in the same manner as 'fast'

And these are the chains they put into that category:

The category is exemplified by chains such as Boston Market, Bruegger's, Captain D's, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Culvers, Dig Inn, El Pollo Loco, Five Guys, Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Newk's Eatery, Noodles & Co., Panera Bread,[1] Pizza Ranch, and Vapiano.

Culver's had some items on Van's list. Did Chipotle make it on there somewhere?

Strange that they have National Strawberry Day during a time when they aren't in season... Another month or 2 and we'll be in the thick of fruit season. Can't wait!

Agreed. Makes no sense

I wish I had eaten more of the items on that list. I haven't even heard of some of these places.

35 total for me. Some of these restaurants are more widespread in the south, like Whataburger - awesome spicy ketchup, and the BOB (Breakfast on a Bun), Steak N Shake, and Shake Shack - don't go there if you ever have the chance.

35 total for me.

27 for me. Never been to Five Guys, Chick-Fil-A, Raising Canes, Shakeshack, or Whataburger. Pretty sure I've had all items listed from the remaining restaurants, though.

My own Top-10 would go as follows:

1.  Crunchwrap Supreme - Taco Bell.

2.  Potato Oles - Taco John's.

3.  Curly Fries - Arby's.

4.  Double-Double - In-n-Out.

5.  Filet o' Fish - McDonald's.

6.  Doritos Locos Taco - Taco Bell.

7.  Regular old cheeseburger (two of 'em) - McDonald's.

8.  Roast Beef Sandwich - Arby's.

9.  Breadsticks - Pizza Hut Express.

10.Chili Dog - DQ.

How do tacos from Chipotle make it, and not the burrito or the bowl? Mind. Boggling.*

*unless I missed them when I had a food picture coma for a bit....

I've never had the tacos there. But, actually, I'm with them on leaving the burrito off. In fact, I'd leave all big chain burritos off. I liked Chipotle fine until I lived in San Francisco for a spell and I learned what a Super Burrito should taste like. Let's just say, it should not be cold or shaped like a softball.

sure, but it's not like the egg mcmuffin tastes like what a good egg sandwich does, but I see your point.

Me? I never liked the burrito. I do like the bowl, though. I just ask for less rice...

I haven't had most of those things. And of those few things I have tried, I haven't had for years. And years ago, I think I preferred Burger King's Big Fish to McD's Filet-o-Fish.

And I just got instant acid reflux heartburn typing that.

You just reminded me...it's about time for the minimal fast food splurge I allow myself anymore. It's Lent as of Wednesday, which means cheap Filet-o-Fish and the Shamrock Shake. I don't eat them in the same way I once did, but it's the splurge I still enjoy.

For Potato Ole's not to be on that list, though...that's a travesty.

Yeah, that's F'ed. Potato Ole's should be #1.

I also think it's a bunch of BS that a Slider from White Castle's is not on the list. Love them or hate them, they are an American institution and it is treason to keep them off the list. It's a top 50 list for Christ sakes!

I want to throw a shout out some forgotten and mostly defunct fast food heroes from my childhood...

• Pizza Burgers from A&W

• Pizza Hut Pizzas before the delivery craze hit in the mid-late 80's. Pizza Hut was actually once a pretty good pizza restaurant prior to 1984-85... it was not fast food. Does anyone remember the Priazzos?

• And Finally Clark's Submarine Sandwiches. They were the best. Although I think Jersey Mike's is decent, we are living in a sub sandwich desolate wasteland, unless you have access to a mom & pop sandwich place in your neck of the woods... and that is damn rare, especially in the Twin Cities.

I am blessed with about the best damn sub sandwich place ever right around the corner from my house.

Didn't Wendy's claim to be made fresh, once upon a time? To me, real fast food is ordered from a place that has no tables or chairs.

Wendy's still claims to have "fresh, never frozen" hamburgers... I don't believe them.
