Neftali Feliz was DFA'd over the weekend to make room for Matt Harrison on the Rangers' 40 man roster. If you recall, Feliz came into the majors as one of the hottest prospects in the game who could throw upper 90's gas consistently. However, after tearing his UCL in 2012, he's no longer the flame throwing closer that he once was. Instead of upper 90's heat, he's now throwing in the low 90's, with some control issues.

 

This year's stats: 19 2/3 IP - 10 ER - 16/9 K/BB Ratio - 1.68 WHIP in MLB --

11 IP - 9 ER - 11/4 K/BB Ratio - 1.73 WHIP in AAA

 

He's owed the remainder of his $4.125 million salary this season, and due for arbitration next year. It would not take much to pry him away from Texas.

 

Any interest in taking on Feliz to fix this bullpen?

Rangers bullpen is ranked 29th in ERA and last in FIP. They are desperate for bullpen help. If he isn't a fit to help the Rangers, how does he help the Twins?

 

There is likely a team out there that believes they see something in Feliz that they can fix. Maybe it is the Twins. More likely his addition would delay solving the problem.

I'd be happy to give him a shot, seeing if our pitching coaches can do a better job than the Rangers at getting him more consistent after his surgery.

 

I'll always be happy to acquire someone relatively young if we don't have to give up anything more than money

If you don't have to give up much of anything to get him, he's got plenty of upside. I don't really care about the money.

Mostly, I guess I wonder why you wouldn't just let Oliveros have a chance if you are going to take flyers on people.

 

I will say that some guys take a while to get it back after TJ so somebody might catch him at the right time.

At the very least, it would be worth the conversation with Texas.  A lower level prospect or 2 to take his $4.125M salary off the books?  Maybe he isn't completely healed from the UCL tear?  IDK
