jorgenswest Verified Member Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Thome was traded to the Orioles for Gabriel Lino and Kyle Simon. Seems like the Twins gave him away last year.
greengoblinrulz Provisional Member Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 but we had too cause he was such a nice guy, we owed it to him..... Teams that actually have won WSeries dont owe anyone but the organization
iastfan112 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 I realize the deal was much later but the Phillies got 2 of the Orioles top 20 prospects, albeit ones closer to the number 20. Twins should've at least netted one fringy prospect out of the deal last year.
greengoblinrulz Provisional Member Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 obviously they got 2 good prospects because they dealt him before July 31 deadline, instead of mid AUG like we did when your hands are kinda tied. Remember, Billy Smith believed we could be the first team in MLB history to come back from 20 games under to get back into the race, so we held onto him. Fact that we finished 36 under shows all you need to know about Billy

They have two uberprospects, and then it drops off tremendously. The #20 Orioles prospect may or may not make a Rangers or Rays top 50.

Bundy and Machado are that whole system. I am very excited that Thome is back in the AL to DH! He should be able to bash another one out to become outright #7 on the all-time list. He has an .854 OPS and count me as one of the few that think he could stick around and go for #6. Although, whether he'd decide to do that is iffy.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I hope that Thome terrorizes the Yankees and Red Sox.
Cody Christie Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 He should be able to bunt for home runs in Baltimore so I am excited to see what he can do in black and orange (even if he will look weird in those colors)
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 The Twins got a PTBNL for Thome and his name is $$$$$. $$$$$ isn't helping the team this year, but I heard $$$$$ was used for the landscaping at the Pohlad winter place in Cabo.
