Waivers, Nolasco and too many pitchers

I personally would take as much action as possible to avoid a bullpen game than to make sure I have an extra hitter that likely wouldn't be used anyway.

I would normally agree, as a bullpen game sounds pretty awful unless Perkins goes 9.

On the other hand, the Twins got shut out for the first time since April and only managed 3 and 2 runs the other two games.  An actual power threat off the bench may have been of use during one or two of those games.

It's automatically retroactive to when they player last played. Obviously he doesn't have to pitch on the first day eligible.

Can we get that in writing and notorized?

Trevor May will not be sent down unless he gets hurt or somehow loses his poise on the mound. Right now he's as good as anybody on the staff, and he looks to be improving and solidifying his game over time. May literally out-pitched Rick Porcello last time out. Sending him down now would be totally irresponsible. I can't imagine Paul Molitor would allow it.

This team has been shockingly successful so far. If Milone pitches well in Boston and keeps the team in the game, then he'll stick around for another start. If he gets knocked around, then he goes back down at the earliest opportunity. This is Nolasco versus Milone. It doesn't involve Trevor May.

That plan didn't work out too well in 2008/2009 :)

Then who, assuming Nolasco is healthy at that point, will get booted from the rotation?

Nolasco is going on the DL, according to Darren Wolfson. Milone will take his spot.

But the question remains: who will pitch on Saturday?

Last word I read from the Strib, they're looking at JR Graham to start.

Nolasco has has the second best Twins' FIP, K% and fWAR, as far as starting pitchers go, all that with a BABIP close to .400 (May is the best in all 3 categories.)

I really do not understand the hate here...

It looks like Milone is busy resolving that issue right now. I'm pretty sure he gets free meals anywhere in Boston if he keeps tossing them those sweet sweet cookies.

No, when Santana's suspension ends. Milone is only a short-term sub for Nolasco.

Great problem to have, 7 man rotation ;) LOL.........what was it Gardy said just a couple yrs ago, "We have 5 #1's", when in actuality we had 3 #5's and 4 or 5 AAAA starting pitchers.

I am not sure what is going to happen when Santana comes back, but if it is a hard choice, that means we are still doing well, so it will be good to have a tough choice..........but Milone is basically the first odd man out, then not sure after that, my guess, if all stays close to the same, May to the bullpen, not saying that is what i want, just dont think Hughes, Nolasco , or Santana are going to bullpen, and if Pelfrey keeps pitching like this, not him, so most likely May, then second guess, Pelfrey.

This could be one of the craziest winning seasons ever, for any team, not just the Twins. In addition to this merry-go-round in the rotation, you've got something like that going on around mid-season when time comes nigh to promote Buxton, whose presence in CF will add almost as much more defense as Hicks plus Rosario did. I'm still thinking of Polanco at SS if Danny Santana continues to flail at the plate, tho his D has gotten noticeably better lately, hat tip Gene Glynn.

Good example of the New Twins brand of ball today. Milone was busy serving up stuff the Boston hitters just loved, and last year I would have put this one in the L column by the 4th inning. But this year the Twins are clustering hits in bunches, a trend that appears to thumb its nose at the gods of statistics. I walked away from this game, then tuned in around the 8th inning, when the score was tied 4-4. WTF?? It keeps happening...! Final score, 8-4 Twins, after they beat up on a guy that's supposed to be a damn good finisher.

Who. Are. These. People??

After today's start, Milone's the odd man out of the rotation.

But he will be replaced by Nolasco.

That leaves, in no particular order: Pelfrey, Gibson, Hughes, May, and Nolasco.

And then Santana will be coming off suspension. Hence, 6 starters for 5 spots, unless the Twins go to a 6-man rotation, which is possible but not necessarily likely.

He certainly wasn't great, but Milone actually wasn't nearly as bad as the raw numbers look- other than the 2 gopher balls, there was a lot of bad luck and bad defense.  Fenway's a pretty tough assignment for any lefty, and in a park where he's historically done badly, besides.

Good teams have this so called problem of too many pitchers.

I really don't understand why you would just outright waive Nolasco and pay the contract.  I'm a Nolasco cynic but he has pitched well after the first awful start.
