A couple years ago, I thought 2015 would be the year Sano and Buxton arrived and we'd get into the playoffs. Perhaps that IS going to happen now!

And maybe without either of them on the team, wouldnt that be an accomplishment :)

You can go ahead and worry about my sanity (or lack thereof) if you want to. :) I mean, this is the first time I've rooted for a winning team (legitimately, that is), so why not be a little crazy? It's way more fun than the Twins losing and having my head on my shoulders. And I'd rather be able to respond "It's good to be optimistic" to people who tauntingly ask "Remember how excited you were at the beginning of the season?" than "It's good to be pessimistic" to people who ask the reverse....lol. But whatever. You go ahead and think what you want to think, I'll think what I want to think, but we'll all be happy with each other since the Twins are winning and everybody's just a little bit crazy. :)

I think you read my post backwards. I'm a huge proponent of irrational optimism. One of the great joys of being a fan!

I think there is plenty to happy about without being 'bad winners.' Let's just enjoy this and hope it lasts and leave it at that. :)

Fair enough. I was just having some fun building on CRArko's comment, wasn't meant for anyone specific.

No, I was wrong.

Everybody should read Russian novelists.

To show you how old, I am, I have always remembered this quote from a story about Steve Prefontaine.  I think it was before his death but it could have been when he died.  I believe it was in Sports Illustrated and I believe it was from The Brothers Karamazov.  To paraphrase:

Let us remember how good it was once here - when we were all together - united by a good and kind feeling that made us, better perhaps, than we are.

Great quote; and a good description of the first place Twins.

Okay, lol....That's what I thought at first, but then other people were taking it otherwise, whether they approved or not, and then I went back and looked again...and read it backwards. :)

And to be honest, I always enjoy it when people bash their winning team. It's kind of a fun, sarcastic way of saying how much you're appreciating their worth. ;)

The Twins are in First!
The bad part was that I had to cheer for the Yankees so I'm pretty sure I'm going straight to hell.
But **** it the twins are in First!

Yeah, I struggled with that too.
As for this team, does anyone see similarities with the '91 team?  Worst to first, and nobody expected anything from them at the beginning of the year, either.  In hindsight, in almost all sports, we often forget how a team that wins it all was perceived at the beginning, or even middle of the year.  We just remember they won, and talk about what a great team they were.

Which makes me think, what if Ryan chose ... LeCroy over Ortiz...  Maybe there would had been some parades

Don't even get me started! I was upset when it went down, and in hind-sight, it was worse ... much worse. Ortiz was THE big bat in the lineup, and the Twins sent him packing.

Yeah, I feel their pain.

I shouldn't post while we're not in first place, but we might be by the time the night is out. I keep checking to see if there are any headlines about the Twins on MLB, but this is all I get:

America's team? The rags-to-riches Royals

No squad has captivated MLB fans like the Royals, favorites who maintain an underdog feel.

Okay, we haven't captivated MLB fans...yet...but talk about an underdog feel. How can you be an underdog if you've got the headlines, day in, day out? I think if MLB posts something about the Twins being in contention later on this season, the general populace will say, "What? Weren't they in last place just the other day?"

Twins will have to be content being .5 out of 1st.

Royals at Cubs called off on account of rain.

Maybe God heard that if the Royals play today, they'd win, and he started to cry. Voila - rain delay.
