Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I used to have a nice golf game. I'm like Hunter, my stats 10 years ago look pretty good......now, I maybe should find a new hobby.
Zachary Verified Member Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I am the guilty party who brought up FIP in this thread, but only in response to the poster favorably citing our starter ERA over the last 11 games. It wasn't brought up in the context of defense, sorry if that wasn't clear. You Probably rightfully so. I came in here dropping 11 games worth of ERA and a point was made that the Twins probably made similar 11-game stretches in previous 90-loss seasons, which is most likely true. So basically my point boils down to the fact that ignoring deeper statistics.. If your starting pitchers give up less runs then you will win more games...haha. Ladies and Gentlemen, Captain Obvious has arrived. But one could argue whether or not it is even necessary to look past that with all of the fancy statistics.

dougkoebernick Provisional Member Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Thanks to everyone for posting on this - it's interesting to read everyone's comments. I think i'll wait to post another comment on their record until they hit game #40 as that will be about 25% of the season and I think that is a point in the year when you get start to see what a team is really like. With that said, I'll take the Twins having the ninth best record in baseball and seeing much better starting pitching.
