Oh! The Experience!

Okay, you’re 8-25, 14 games out of first and one fifth of the season has already gone by the wayside. So what do you show for video highlights on your website? A single that drove in a run? A couple of catches in the outfield? Granted, getting an RBI is a rarity for this team, even a clean catch in the outfield is something to write home to mom about, but come on, is that all real baseball fans have to look forward to this season? What’s next? Mauer chewing bubble gum? A surreptitious sunflower

How Do You Fix The Twins?

With the Twins having 33 games under their belt, the club has won just eight contests. They've been swept in a series seven times thus far, and the reality of the situation has gone from dire to laughable. While I don't contend that either Paul Molitor or Terry Ryan are the best for the organization going forward, a change there doesn't handle the issues at present. So, how do you fix the Twins?   In an attempt to salvage the most out of the 2016 season, and put a best foot forward for 2017, her

The Worst Twins Since 1989

The Minnesota Twins have struggled this year. They have been swept six times and have only two victories on the road. Instead of building on last year's success, they have brought plenty of things into question.   I could spend several days on what the reasons are behind the failures. That would just end up in a lot of head shaking and maybe even some tears. Instead, I intend to start a bar room type discussion.   Some of you remember the Twins of the 60s or 70s or even the 80s. For me, it is th

Minnie's Haberdashery -- A Very Tarantino Season at Target Field

You know who I blame for this complete mess of a season that is the 2016 Twins?   Quentin Tarantino.   This winter, I sat down in a movie theater to watch the gory glory of Tarantino's Hateful Eight in all its 70 mm Ultra Panavision splendor. Tarantino set his most recent carnage-piece in an isolated stagecoach lodge called Minnie's Haberdashery.   "Minnie's Haberdashery," I thought during the intermission. "That would be a good nickname for Target Field." (Just to show that baseball is never to

TwinsDaily Minor League Report (5/12): Byron Buxton - Still Hot

It has been more than 24 hours since the last time the Twins lost, which is a pretty big deal here in Twins territory. The Twins MiLB affiliates went 1-3 on the day but they had a couple of nice performances to make up for the poor results. Continue reading to find out more detail about Thursday in the Twins farm system:   RED WINGS REPORT Gwinnett Braves @ Rochester Box Score   Byron Buxton, heard of him? He hit leadoff for the Wings and was 2-5 with a run scored and a strike out. He also st

Zack Collins - 2016 MLB Draft

Image courtesy of Steven Branscombe   Zack Collins is a 6'3", 220 lb. catcher from the University of Miami who was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 27th round of the 2013 draft, but he chose not to sign. Collins can really hit, and his patience at the plate enhances the rest of his offensive performance, making him one of the top college bats available in this year's draft. Zack has good power that will allow him to hit around 25 home runs per year, and his hit tool is solid enough that he

Twins Missed Window On Minnesota Man

As the Twins continue their 2016 tailspin, things have gotten to ridiculous measures. Not only are the Twins now officially the worst team in baseball thanks to their 8-25 record, but they don't appear to have any immediate fixes. While the club as as a whole has struggled, one of the lone bright spots has been Minnesota staple Joe Mauer. Considering he's often the unfair punchline, it's worth considering that it's the Minnesota native the Twins might have failed most.   Whether you follow local

Jim Palmer on Berrios

watching the Orioles feed (on my computer) Hall of Famer Jim Palmer was quite complimentary of Jose Berrios, among other things he said this, "This kid can pitch," "Berrios has three plus pitches, curve ball, change up and located fastball," he said some other nice things as well, but these are the comments that struck me

Matt Manning - 2016 MLB Draft

Manning was primarily throwing in the low nineties last year, but he shot out of the gates after a late start this spring, throwing up to 97 miles per hour. Matt's curveball is a good secondary offering that keeps getting better, and his changeup should be a big league average offering. Th

How Hamilton Explains The Twins Season

In the midst of one of the most disappointing Twins seasons in memory, it's natural to look around for something, anything, to explain or distract from what promises to be a long, hard campaign.       That's where pulitizer-winning, grammy-winning, genius-crafted (even if said genius is a Yankees fan), best-selling, award-monopolizing musical Hamilton comes in. Sure you can listen to it and distract yourself from the announcement of yet another dropped fly ball, blown lead, or ill-timed strike o

Stewart, Harrison Quieting Critics?

There's nothing like having a really bad product at the Major League level to focus fans' attention on prospects in an organization's minor league system and that's exactly what has happened in Twinsville over the past several years.   Many Twins fans that have turned their primary attention to the club's prospects have, for the past couple of years, been somewhat underwhelmed by the stat lines of pitcher Kohl Stewart and outfielder Travis Harrison, to the point where I mentioned in my offseason

William Benson - 2016 MLB Draft

William Benson is a 6'6", 220 lb. outfielder from The Westminster Schools in Georgia who will be seventeen at the time of the draft. Benson continues the long line of toolsy players from the Georgia prep ranks, and his athleticism is what stands out the most on a baseball field. Will has some of the best raw power in the class and he hits well on the inside part of the plate, but he needs to improve his coverage on the outer part of the plate. The Duke commit has a compact swing that works well

Twins Minor League Report (5/8): Buxton's Blast Boosts Red Wings

In the majors on Sunday afternoon, Tyler Duffey gave the Twins a quality start but fell to 0-2 on the year as the MLB was unable to muster much offense against Jose Quintana and the White Sox. In the minors, two of the Twins affiliates enjoyed days off while in the two games played each team got a similar performance to Duffey’s from their starters and both matchups proved to be pitching duels to the very end.   To find out who did what and how it all went down, keep reading!   RED WINGS REPORT

Lowe will likely be drafted as a position player because he will hit for power as he physically matures, is an above average runner, and plays good defense. Total Support: Why Jim Pohlad's Unsatisfying Comments May Be Wise

For the Twins to make a serious run at a division title in 2016 with the roster they had leaving Ft. Myers, a whole lot had to break right. Byron Buxton needed to take a big step forward at the plate, Joe Mauer needed to return to his old form, Phil Hughes needed to make 2016 look more like 2014 than 2015, Byung-Ho Park needed to hit the ground running, Glen Perkins needed to come back healthy, and about a half-dozen other things had to fall into place. The Pointlessness of Two Player Trades

http://www.geeksandcleats.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/brian-cashman-geeksandcleats.jpg   Throughout the offseason and up until July 31st of the regular season, Major League Baseball teams can freely trade any player who does not have a no trade clause in his contract, making trading an aspect that is very much focused upon. In the last decade, trades have had a huge effect on the baseball seasons, bringing key players to championship teams like the Kansas City Royals, or loosening payroll, wh

TwinsDaily Minor League Report (5/5): Hitting Fails, Pitching Fails Too

With the day off of baseball as they traveled to Chicago, the Minnesota Twins used the free time to make a series of roster moves. They waived Tommy Milone and Casey Fien before Thursday's game. With Ervin Santana set to return on Saturday, and Kyle Gibson making good progress on the DL and set to return as early as next week, the Twins have a chance to make a couple of short-term call ups to fill the roster. It hasn't been officially announced yet, but there are reports indicating that catcher
