  1. Now that is the Lewis Thorpe we have been waiting to see this spring. 24 K's and only 1 walk in his last two starts, 13+ innings, gets me excited at the possibility we will see him at Target Field before the summer is over. Great seeing that Smeltzer has a hard head and was back in his regular spot in the rotation. Appears he is a strikeout machine who is making the Dozier trade look real good. Speaking of strikeouts, Hackimer has 19 strikeouts in 10.0 innings with 3 walks and only 1 hit. We have seen guys come thru the system with great numbers before, yet never do if for the Twins. See that he spent all of last year and some of 2017 in the Florida State League. Time to get him moving up the ladder as he will be Rule 5 eligible this winter. Question for you guys that have seen him pitch, is he one relief prospect who has what it takes to make it and be good, really good?
  2. Really liked what the FO did last July, picking up many very good prospects. The one trade that bothered me a bit was the Pressley deal. There is a chance Alcala could be special and this deal may look good for the Twins in the long run. But today, Pressley would take away a lot of the question marks from our pen.
  3. Depending on who starts tonight for Rochester, Thorpe, Stewart and Littell all would have at least four days rest if held out for a Twins start tomorrow.
  4. That is one heck of a trio starting for the Miracle. Great seeing Graterol come back with a clearn 5th inning after running into trouble in the 4th. Always good seeing Arraez have another two fer. The Twins are going to need to either go with a bullpen game or bring up a starter for tomorrow. Have you heard anything about which, Seth? Could see them bring up someone to start the game, then send him back on Thursday and replace him with Magill...who seems about ready. Only question is who goes down? Also good seeing Rortvedt both hit for a solid average while picking up more extra base hits for a better OPS.
  5. Coming into this series, I would have been elated if the Twins could get one win. OK, they got it. Hopefully, they will get a second win and take the series. This team just might be for real, let's get on board for an exciting summer of baseball.
  6. Was yesterday the first time ever you wrote Tyle Jay in as the Pitcher of the Day? More than a disappointment since being drafted, is it possible he could be a 'late' bloomer and turn it around this year? I think you missed Alcala in the Prospect Summary?
  7. The Twins really need to see Gonasalves, Gordon and Javier get onto the field. At the end of this year, there are going to be lots of decisions that they will need to make. Do they try to bring Schoop back? The type of year Gordon has will be part of that decision. There are lots of holes in their starting rotation next year. Before bringing any of the current guys back, would be nice to know if Gonsalves is a potential replacement. And finally, Javier needs to be added to the 40-man this November as he was signed on July 2, 2015. I assume he will be, but he is now in his 5th year in the organization and has played in only 50 games with most two years ago at Elizabethton. Hopefully, all will be in these reports beginning this coming week!
  8. Wasn't he battling a few injuries in spring training? Could be he isn't 100%. Also understand he isn't getting a lot of pitches to hit as his walk rate is high. Then could be his first slump as a pro, something he will need to work-thru and learn from.
  9. I really, really wanted the Blue Wahoos to win their second game for a five game sweep. Zach Littell's first start was bad, the second so-so and last night very good. Hopefully, he is now on track for more. After Weil had a break-out year last year, he has quietly been one of the Red Wings best hitters this spring. Expect will see a lot more games from him like last night, but will he make it to the Twins? Griffin Jax is in his fourth year in the organization, yet after last night has pitched only 144.0 innings. Last night's earned run was his first of the year in 16.0 innings. Guess that confirms it wasn't a mistake to push this kid up to AA. Will he keep it up and make it to the Twins next year? Then there is Ober and Sands. Gotta love all these dominant pitchers the Twins have throughout the organization.
  10. My thoughts also, spycake. I recall Magill being a pleasant surprise last year, pitching better than most of us expected. If he can get back to that, deserves a spot in this bullpen. Question is who goes down as I doubt they will want to cut to 12 position players with Sano scheduled to return early/mid next month. The bottom three in the pen are Duffey, Harper and Mejia. Of those, I would think Mejia has been the biggest problem. But he is the only lefty available other than Rogers and doesn't have options remaining. So that means Harper or Duffey. Duffey has pitched better this time up, other than one pitch yesterday. And Harper has been a real surprise. Gonna be interesting decision, but this bullpen must get better. And yes, for whatever reason I have been thinking that Magill's name was McGill.....DAH!
  11. Disappointing how Stewart has been throwing this spring. After the progress he made last September, was hoping that he would step up and claim the right to be the first starter called up when needed. Games like yesterday certainly aren't good. McGill is on a 20-day rehab assignment, right? Or is it 30-days for pitchers? Assume he will join the Twins when ready as there are a couple guys at the end of the pen who have been struggling. Doubt he has options if they would prefer he stay in Rochester, or does he? Looks like Balazovic is confirming that surprising report from Keith Law (it was him, wasn't it?). Love it when we have starters step up and make us all take notice! Now will one of them please hurry to the Twins and be lights out so we can really feel good?
  12. Thanks SD. Will cause me to follow him more closely when I look at the CR boxscores. How does he look in the field?
  13. Great seeing Thrope have an outing like yesterday. With that many K's, gotta believe his stuff is better than a lot of us claim. Now, do the same next time out. Also good seeing Raley do well. Playing himself into a spot as the next player up should the Twins need another outfielder during the season. Really hope that Smeltzer is able to get back on the hill soon. Does anyone know what injury he has, if any? Was he hit in the face or head? Will always remember when Herb Score took a line drive to his face. Was one of the best pitchers in the game and seemed to never be the same. Another two hit game for Arraez and his average goes down. See he has only 6 K's in about 50 at bats with 6 walks. Looking forward to seeing how Jax and Balazovic do tonight.
  14. Just came back to the site and looked at tonight's starters for the first time. This could be another day to talk about fantastic pitching with Thorpe-Smerltzer-Duran-Balazovic. Then saw that Rochester's game started late this morning. Just checked GameDay and the Wings are up 4-2 in the 7th. So maybe Thorpe finally had a good one. Saw he threw 94 pitches in 5.2 innings with only 4 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs. OK, he gave up another home run, but 12 of his 17 outs were strikeouts. So it sounds like for one game at least, he is gettin there.
  15. I usually don't second guess the manager, well at least in print. But we all know that Gibby is coming off a brutal winter and hasn't recovered to 100% with all his weight and strength back to what it was. Knowing that, I can see the Manager sending him back for the sixth inning to continue stretching him out. But please, have some one warming up in the pen and get him out after those first two batters reached base. Would the result have been different, who knows, but odds are it may have been.
  16. Absolutely great seeing Romero back with a strong 2.0 inning outing after his last hiccup. Also, good seeing Raley off to a good start to his season at AAA. Is it possible he will develop into a better major leaguer than Rooker? Another typical night for Arraez. The Blue Wahoos get three hits, he had two of 'em. I guess my question to the in club at TD is when do you expect Graterol to join the Twins? I expected him to pitch well at AA to start the season, but didn't expect this dominance. And who is this Sammons character? Is he this year's version of Tyler Wells? With all that said, the highlight for me was Enlow. After that opening day clunker, I have been waiting for him to confirm our belief in him. Sure did that last night. With a 95-96 fastball and what was described as the best curve in the draft class, this kid could be another front of the rotation starter. Yahooooooooo!
  17. Lots of negative from this one. I only have one thing to say, however, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie! Also thought Duff did a good job only hours after getting off a plane. But yes, this bullpen needs help. Maybe McGill can be back in a week or two.
  18. Get his signature on an extension by July. It may be a year less than the two signed during spring training and will certainly be for more dollars, just do it!
  19. Thanks for the first hand report. Good hearing about Arraez. I have a question for everyone hear at TD. Will Arraez hit for a .400 average at AA in 2019? Would like to see TD do a poll to see how many of us think it is possible. Also great seeing Rortvedt hitting for some power. That and pitch framing, which Seth pointed out, appear to be two hurdles he needs to overcome to join Garver behind the plate for the Twins late next year or in 2021.
  20. Correct me if I am wrong, but it wasn't that long ago when hitters dominated our top prospects with few pitchers thought of having a chance to be front half of the rotation starters. But that sure doesn't appear to be the case early this season. The list of starters giving up few, if any, runs is lengthly...Graterol, Alcala, Smeltzer, Jax, Ober, Sammons, Duran, and Balazovic. If my math is correct, that's 8 starters and doesn't include several others who have early ERA's in the vicinity of 3.00. Will any of the above make it to the Twins and become that shut down ACE every team needs? Don't know, but I would much rather have 8 guys pitching like this than one or two as in the past. Because if any of these can keep this up they will have a chance to join Berrios at the front of a future starting rotation.
  21. What a great start to last night's game and the season for Smeltzer. He may be the #4 starter on that team but his results have been nearly perfect early this season. Isn't it fun getting 3 W's out of 4 games? Always good seeing Whitefield's name on the multi-hit list. With his softball background, would be a neat story if he would make it. Also always like good outings by Wisconsin native Schulfer. Recall being impressed by his play in ETon last year. Count me amongst those who were really impressed by Tyler Duffey back in his rookie season. Although most hope is gone, outings like last night give us a sliver of hope that he can find something from that year and make it back to help the Twins later this season. I often wonder if the pitching coaches messed him up when stressing his need for a changeup the next year. I recall his having a decent fastball and two different curves, one at 12-6 and another that looked more like a slider. Maybe they should have left him do what he did awfully well those first couple months.
  22. With the names you mention and I expect many others, gonna be some real teeth grinding coming out of Target Field come November. Expect there is going to be some real talent exposed to the Rule 5. Hopefully, some of it will be dealt this summer so we get something in return.
  23. Thanks for the added comments on the pitchers, Seth. Didn't get that feel from reading the initial report. I know its only two starts, but is Balazovic the biggest surprise early this year.....or at least good surprise.
  24. Did some digging about Thorpe's start last year, Seth. He had a 4.74 ERA the first half (AA) and sub-2.00 ERA the second half (AA only). April's ERA was in the mid-5's with all the other months below 4.00. So yes, he did get off to a slow start, but I don't recall any games like these first two.
  25. As you know, Seth, I am a huge fan of Thorpe. Certainly didn't expect this ugly start to his season after pitching well at AAA late last year. I seem to remember that he got off to a slow start last year also? Checked to see that Arraez is now hitting .357! Do you see him moving up to AAA early this year, Seth? Or is he one that could be called up straight from AA should they have a need this summer? Have to think that he could be a great lead off hitter for the Twins, perhaps as soon as next year. Yet, the Blue Wahoos have him in the #2 slot. Where do you see as his best spot in the lineup? Great seeing Larnach get back to back two hit games. Need a few other top prospects to join in the hit parade. Was so looking forward to this report to see how the big four pitchers did. Gotta say I am disappointed with Graterol putting up the only dominant performance. Although Duran was solid and Balazovic was dominating his game until it sounds like he ran out of gas. Imagine we have to expect that to happen early in the season, eh?
