  1. Yes, you could. But something feels different this time, at least to me. There seems to be a continual emphasis on strengthening the system. Not just all the moves they did last July, but the continual moves that haven't made big splashes. You know, moves like bringing Pearson in last spring, and others. Seems like they have a plan and are working it. To me, that's how building a successful organization will happen. It appears to me that they also have been more successful in the past couple drafts, although I will agree we won't know for several years. It also helps to be drafting high, however, their management of the signing pool two years ago was beautiful to watch...getting Enlow and others after making the surprise pick of Lewis, who just may turn out to be the best choice of all.
  2. Remembering back to those Brewers teams, Yount had a partner in Paul Molitor. Could we have some of the same with Lewis-Javier? I know lots of people have been hammering away at the new FO, but I for one like what they are doing. No, they aren't throwing gas on the fire to get it done overnight. But there is something good about a steady approach towards turning this team into one of the best in baseball...year after year after year.
  3. Really like #1, #3, #4 and #9. My question, Nick, would you take the over or under on 5 of 10 happening? Great read, thanks. Now, Play Ball!
  4. When thinking about this kid I keep thinking about Robin Yount also, although Yount didn't have Lewis' speed. Won't go back and look, but Yount was up when he was still 18, wasn't he? Also, Seth, love how these are presented with the 'blue style baseball card look.' Can we please fast forward to late 2020 or early 2021 when all five of these top five are playing at Target Field. Really am kind of giddy thinking about them in a Twins uniform.
  5. Lets hope the Front Office sees/knows something about the type of player Max is going to be in 2019 and beyond. Getting these two on long term contracts could fill their #2 and #3 spots in the batting order for the first half of the next decade. And doing so at a reasonable cost. Now lets get Berrios and Gibson into the mix and I will be more than excited. Also curious if they are talking to Eddie, who was out best player last year and is closer to free agency.
  6. We won't know how it is structured until we learn the terms. Maybe it is front-loaded with a nice signing bonus this year on top of his previously agreed salary for 2019. Unless I am mistaken, I believe signing bonuses are allowed. I also will join those who believe Polanco hasn't even scratched the surface of what he can become. And his defense is adequate at shortstop until Lewis or Javier are ready and he moves to second base. What this does mean, however, if Javier is also the real deal he will likely end up at third base...sometime after Sano either moves to first base/DH.
  7. Excellent presentation of the Twins lineup as they begin spring training. Don't they have a team option to bring Cruz back in 2020? Also, I think the problems with one year deals last year had less to do with the length of the deal and more to the timing of when the players were signed. Lynn went into the winter thinking he was going to get richer, then waited and waited while no one gave him the offer he thought he deserved. He eventually signed with the Twins, but was really disappointed and missed most of spring training. Morrison's problems were likely more related to his injury than a one year deal.
  8. Love this move and am a bit surprised they are doing it. Although this is about keeping a very good middle infielder in the fold long-term, it does affect others. Perhaps the most affected will be Gordon. His play on the field will determine future Twins moves pertaining to him. Now get Berrios signed to something similar, then Gibson to a couple years. With Kirilloff, Larnach and others on the rise, I can see them waiting another year to extend Rosario and/or Kepler.
  9. The number that blows my mind is 44-doubles in a five month minor league season. Unbelievable! I think there is a good chance your ETA is wrong. If he has a year at AA anything like last year, we gotta see him by September at the latest. Could be earlier if one of the starting three is out with an injury.
  10. Thanks, Parker, I recall Frankies slider diving down into the feet of an opposite side hitter (RH). Graterol's slider, at least this one, is more horizontal than down.
  11. Yes, incredible pictures. If he reads this, was wondering if he has seen any of the artwork by Andreas Nottebohm. Several of his photos could be Nottebohm paintings. Expect he would find Andreas' life interesting. Sounds like another good kid who the organization can be proud of. Always fun learning more about them. Thanks Seth.
  12. When I read your description of his slider, I kept thinking Liriano...you know the guy pitching for the Twins before his surgery. And Frankie didn't have a 100mph fastball. That combination blows my mind, but yes, he does need at least an average change up. Although we all assume #2 will be Kirilloff, I have been wondering if it could be Lewis. Those two are so close in my mind that I see a case for either as #1.
  13. Like Kohl Stewart before him, I have been off the Nick Gordon bandwagon for more than a year, since his cool second half at AA in 2017. Won't be looking to jump back on until I see a sustained performance in 2019. As for Kohl, really liked the progress he made with the Twins last fall and will be looking for his wagon to make a stop at my wagon stop. Have a question, Cody, about Brusdar Graterol. Do you think there is a chance, or even a good chance, that he is in the Blue Wahoo starting rotation with a good spring? I know the Twins like to start players where they finished the prior year if they were there only part of the year. But there is a lot of new management in the organization and Graterol may be good enough to get a real good push up the ladder. Your thoughts?
  14. Great prospect with awesome first couple months in the organization. Thinking, would I have Javier ahead of him? Javier has missed so much time, but could be as good as almost anyone, anywhere. He could, couldn't he? For that reason I would probably flip Javier and Larnach. One has missed so much time, the other has only been around for a short time. We all talk about the Top 3, but these two could be their equal. The only drawback is that only one of the five is a pitcher...or is it? Nothing wrong with having four studs at shortstop, shortstop, corner outfielder, corner outfielder. Fortunately, we should know a lot more six months from now. Lets hope they all do well, very well, so the Twins are looking at a young core in a couple years, a young core that comes up and gets it done!
  15. It doesn't have to be either or, Seth, He could be used every fourth or fifth game as a long reliever. Come in for one of the starters who doesn't pitch deep into games and finish their game. That could give him three to five innings in say 30+ games during the year...say 135+/- innings. Would likely not see the lineup turn over for a third time which should lead to success for him and the Twins. Would also set him up, innings wise, for being a starter in 2020. A side benefit would be that the rest of a seven man bullpen would get a day off and save wear and tear on everyone else.
  16. Looking at that picture above confirms he is no longer the skinny kid we remember from two years ago. Please, please stay healthy and give us the chance to enjoy what this kid can bring to the organization. When talking about ceilings, his is as high as any in the organization. What is the probability of his reaching it is the question. Lets think about the possibility he could be the player who will force Lewis to move off the shortstop position. Like all of us, I have no idea how likely that is, but it could happen.
  17. Will Rooker be in spring training with the Twins? If so, get him working with Tom Kelly at first base. This kid looks to be somewhat athletic, gotta be able to get him to be at least an acceptable first baseman.
  18. Interesting seeing that Randball Stu also changed uniforms this winter!
  19. Is there some way, Seth, that you all can factor in the probability of player X reaching his ceiling. Kind of like going to Vegas and throwing the dice, knowing there is a 20% probability of X happening and a 30% probability of Y happening. Not all potential front of the rotation starters are the same. You may think that Graterol, for example, has a 30% chance of reaching his ceiling. Whereas, you may think that Duran has a 10% chance of reaching his ceiling with both having ceilings of an ACE. Has anyone attempted to do something like this?
  20. Continue to be more than pleased with what the FO did last July. They totally changed the quality and depth of the entire organization. Have to believe they will use those bullets over the next couple years. Whether that is by continued trading down a few levels and out a few years or by enhancing a trade for a MLB ready asset remains to be seen. The important thing is they stockpiled a lot of assets and this kid just may be the cream of the crop.
  21. Have been a fan of Thorpe since he was a 17-year old pitching winter ball down under. Expect he will take another step forward this year in his third year following his two year absence. Personally, would have him a couple slots higher than #8.
  22. Hoefully, Graterol will be there a very short time, if at all.
  23. My gut tells me I would rank him lower than 10. Then after looking at #11-#20, the only player I would move ahead of him is Rortvedt. Will be interesting to see how he does in 2019, although we could say that about the entire Top 20++++++.
  24. Thanks, wasn't sure where each stood. That may put Reed in the driver's seat if he has a spring anything like his 2018 season.
  25. Options will be a factor, both if one is available or is not. This could be a crapshoot all the way down to the last day of camp. Does one player make it because he is out of options and Player Y is not? Am I correct that Cave and Reed are out of options and Granite is not?
