  1. I think you may have missed one of the most important young prospects, Jeremy. Wander Javier signed on July 2, 2015. Unless there is something unusual with his signing, he would be Rule 5 eligible this December. Exchanged a couple comments with Seth about him recently. Gotta expect he will be protected, but he has played very little since signing...a few at bats in 2016 in the DSL and then most of the 2017 season at Elizabethton. Have one other question, Jeremy. A high school senior who is 19 years old when drafted could be treated like the college kids and would have only 4 years protection. That is correct, isn't it?
  2. Was wrong about Arraez. Thought he would struggle for a week or two, then begin putting up multi-hit games. Two games at AAA, two hits in each game. Makes it look easy, eh? Also great seeing Rortvedt adjust to AA with hits in both games, including two last night. The situation in Rochester is just plain ugly right now. Gotta expect there isn't a lot of interest in this team by the local fans. Every winter management goes out to add a bunch of guys for AAA who should give the big team depth and the AAA team a chance at the playoffs. Even though several of the pickups last winter looked like a good fit, it sure ain't working.
  3. Got a question for Seth, or whomever may know. Are we getting close to Lewis moving up to Pensacola? And could they be waiting for Javier to come out of EST so that he can go directly to Fort Myers?
  4. What I was wondering about, Seth, is whether anyone knows if the Twins spent the International dollar allocation they traded for late last winter?
  5. Expect Arraez will struggle for a week or two, then be his normal self with a half dozen multi-hit games out of every ten. Great seeing Rortvedt move up to Pensacola, hopefully, his results with the bat continue as they were in Fort Myers. What a nice start for Colina. Could be another arm for a future Twins bullpen? I read something on one of the posts yesterday about young players signed by the Twins. One was first name Enmanuel something. Don't recall reading about him previously. Was he someone who was signed with the extra dollars they got from that trade this winter? If not, does anyone know if they have used it?
  6. A high ankle sprain bothers me, especially for a catcher. Hopefully, it is a couple weeks and doesn't linger all season. Duff looked so good in his inning last weekend. But last night he was like a deer in headlights. Come on, Duff, the Twins need ya!
  7. Thanks, Seth. And that is great news as he edges closer towards being with the Twins. Also saw that Arraez moved up to Rochester. Curious if he will stay or is short-term while Gordon is on the IL....again.
  8. Yes he is. I see he was traded to the Twins from the Dodgers a year ago. Don't remember who/what we traded to get him. Anyone?
  9. Ryne Mason is another member of that 2016 draft who has a chance. All of the first seven picks have become legitimate candidates to make it. Speaking of that draft, any word on what Benninghoff is doing? Is Balazovic now the second best pitching prospect in the organization? Graterol should be in Minnesota by mid-to-late next year. Will Balazovic follow in 2021 to form a trio to be reckoned with?
  10. Nobody is talking about it, but I see Perez' problem being the fact his routine was messed up this week. Leaving for paternity leave, not doing what he normally does between starts, seeing his son born, etc. So not surprised at all when he was a bit off early in the game. Plus that second home run came after the hitter should have been out as that pitch was clearly a strike. Have noticed that Cruz didn't appear to be his normal self for some time. Expect a few weeks off may be very good for him. Hopefully, it isn't something that drags on all season. Also surprised when Astudillo led off. More surprised he was catching in his first game back...especially from a leg injury. Getting right handers into the lineup, could see him at third with Gonzalez in left as a better lineup. Going to be real tough getting all three catchers at bats going forward. The way Garver ahs been performing, he has to be in the lineup at least half the time.
  11. Thorpe had a good outing, except for the back-to-back home runs. Has been a concern for him since he came back from the two years off. Can't remember if he gave up too many round trippers before. So for him, it probably isn't the major league ball theory, or at least not entirely the problem. Guess we will have to see if he can make progress with that concern as everything else is looking like he belongs in the Twins rotation at some point. Has Raley surpassed Wade as the next outfielder called up should the need arise? Can't wait until tonight to see if Balazovic can follow up last week's start?
  12. What an ugly day in the organization, at least as far as the results were concerned. But Smerltzer is making us take notice. A few more games like this and the Twins are gonna have to consider giving him a call next time the need arises. Although he isn't on the 40-man and the whole options thing will come into play. Was looking at Lewis and the fact he only has stolen 6 bases in 11 attempts. Looked at last year and saw he was only successful in 6 of 10 at Fort Myers, or nearly the same results. Stole a ton of bases earlier at Cedar Rapids, 22 of 26. I know the FSL ballparks are bigger than most minor league parks. Is it also farther between bases?
  13. After a shaky first couple innings, Stewart settled in nicely. Certainly reason to believe he can be a serviceable #5 starter should the need arise. Was that the best inning we have seen from Duffey since he was starting that year he was called up? Maybe, just maybe, he can fill one of the needed spots in the pen later this year. And a question for all of you. With one-quarter of the season nearly behind us, is Mitch Garver the best hitting catcher in baseball? The kid is on track for 30 some home runs while playing in just over half the games. With an average well over .300, he sure is answering the question of who should be the Twins starting catcher the next five plus years.
  14. When I was projecting the Twins to hit 225-240 home runs this year, I had Sano at 35-40. He is gonna miss a quarter of the season, so revised numbers should put him at 27-30. In those projections, I had the catchers hitting a total of 15. Got a feeling they will surpass that.
  15. Don't get the concern about Sano coming back. The core of this team is Polanco, Rosario, Buxton, Kepler and Berrios. Sano is part of that group and will be welcomed back like a twin brother returning home from the Army. As for the bullpen. Agree with many above that they need one power arm that will fit into a late inning role and a lefty specialist. Expect they will wait and see if Romero can develop into the power arm and if Mejia, Moya or Vasquez can settle in and become the lefty. If the above doesn't happen, they should go out and get one solid reliever. As long as everyone is throwing names out there, how about talking to Houston about trading for Ryan Pressley? We got some exciting young talent last July, maybe we could get him for a couple of them.
  16. Interesting night down on the farm, Seth. Blankenhorn moves up to AA and doesn't miss a beat. That is supposed to be that big move that ends a lot of careers. Should he make it, which appears more likely every day, what type of major league player do you see him becoming? And if he is now an outfielder, will his road to the big leagues need to go thru some city other than Minneapolis? Dobnak moves from Cedar Rapids to AA with no more than a cup of coffee at Fort Myers. Is he for real, do you see him making it with the Twins? Or will he become more of a AAAA guy? Great seeing Enlow with a great start. Seems a couple clunkers followed by a couple good ones. Speaking of that trend, also describes Tyler Jay this spring. Appearances like last night indicate he may be able to still make it. Does he have the stuff to pitch for the Twins should he eliminate the bad outings?
  17. Thanks Jeremy and Jack. Have a question about a part of this rule that may no longer exist. I recall that in years past teams would place many players on waivers during August, then pull them off if someone puts in a claim. Do they still have the right to pull a player back after waived? Is that something that is/was only used in August?
  18. Getting hits in all five games with multi-hits in four of them is the start Gordon was hoping for while working on his rehab this past month. Will he wear down again? Or will this be the year he turns the corner and becomes the next man up for the Twins. Expect the FO is watching closely. Can they count on him next year and beyond? Or do they extend Schoop? Getting it wrong could have a huge impact on their 2020 season.
  19. Twins fans should be at the height of their 2019 high. Can this team keep it up? Probably not. But every time they have an ugly game, they come back stronger than before. Other than some fine tuning of the bullpen, what isn't there to like about this group. We just could be in for one heck of a summer!!! As eluded to above, I also hope they get a couple extensions done during the season. Definitely Gibson for probably three years. Maybe Odorizzi on a similar deal. Rosario can wait until the off season, but then he and Buxton are must get it dones. As for clearing the bench, count me among those who support the moves. Expect Cave was in because he is likely headed back to Rochester on Friday. Seems the team believes in Astudillo and will get him back on the 25-man now that he is eligible. With Castro banged up, almost guaranteed to happen.
  20. Got a question about that. If tested with a positive result from marijuana, wouldn't a player still be suspended even if it occurred in a state like Colorado, in which it is now legal?
  21. That is fantastic news, Seth. Getting Javier on the field is as big as getting Kirilloff back. Kirilloff is closer to helping the Twins, but Javier could be special, real special. Although I guess we really don't know because he has played so little.
  22. Really concerned about the position players at Cedar Rapids. Six of today's nine starters are hitting under .200 average, with many way under. They are going to need more than Javier for a second half playoff run. Hopefully the Twins get a couple college bats that can play in low-A immediately after the draft. Great seeing Larnach get his first two home runs. Has been swinging the bat real well for awhile now as have several other guys in the Miracle lineup, including Lewis with six multi-hit games in his last ten. Does anyone know why Arraez left the game after two at bats last night? As we all look for the Twins to improve their bullpen, could a healthy Addison Reed be part of the answer? Sure would be nice! How long does Sano stay in Pensacola? Will it be through the weekend, then on to New York?
