Article: MIN 11, CWS 4: Twins Make Home Run History
rdehring replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How many of you remember back when Rosario and Sano were teammates in Elizabethton? Eddie won the Appy League Home Run Crown with 21, Miguel hit 20. Remember there were a lot of games like last night when they went.....BOOM.....BOOM!- 36 replies

Article: Building for Primetime
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Perhaps the most beautiful words you have ever written, Nick: "The future is now." But like everyone, I am hopeful the bullpen will be stronger come July than it is today. A strength of this team seems to be its chemistry. Expect the FO will have to be very careful when adding a reliever, whether via trade or Kimbrel, by asking how they fit? I am hopeful, however, that part of the solution is already in the organization. Could it be someone already in the pen who takes that next step to dominance, perhaps May or Duffey? Or someone from the minors that comes up and provides that spark. On that front two possibilities are Romero and Graterol, should he be moved to the pen. Could that have been part of the reason for his appearance at Target Field yesterday? Then there is Hildenberger, who has been very good over the past couple years.- 37 replies

The thing that surprised me most about Akins, Seth, is how young he is. In his third year since being drafted out of college and he is only 22.

Thanks, Seth. That is great that Escobar is in Florida. Can't wait to see how he does in the GCL to follow up to his great season in the DSL last year.

Hey, Seth, have some questions about some of the really young prospects. Do the DSL Twins begin playing late next week? Assume Urbina will be on that squad. Any other big time 16-year olds from last year that we should follow? Also, have you heard whether Escobar will be back in the DSL or is he in Florida and will be with the GCL Twins this summer? Finally, with the cut-off to the 2018/2019 signing period approaching, did the Twins ever use the extra International dollars they picked up in that trade right before spring training?

Article: Where's the Weakness?
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The biggest strength to this team is their ability to come back from any negative event. Whether that is falling behind and immediately scoring, or coming back from an ugly loss, their ability to recover is amazing. So if we are looking for weaknesses, I fear what will happen should they lose this ability to recover from a bad game/inning. Like many, I am anxious every time Pineda steps on the mound. But this isn't a major concern as they won't need a 5th starter in the playoffs. My bigger concern regarding starters is in 2020 and beyond. Considering none of the prospects at Rochester have stepped up and shown us they are ready to be more than a AAAA starter (I understand one or more may step up over the summer), they really need to get one of Odorizzi or Gibson extended by this summer. And like most, I see the most important move in July finding one very good late inning reliever who is under control for more than this year. I would think they have plenty of ammunition in the minors to make one smart move.- 39 replies

Romero's excellent outing at Rochester might be the best news of the night. Also good to see Stewart continue putting up solid starts. Because he is a Badger state guy, have followed Schulfer more closely than many others from last year's draft. Walks a few too many, however, his results continue to be excellent. Wasn't all that long ago that there were real questions about the catching position in the organization. The Twins now have three good big league catchers, including two who will be around for many years. With Rortvedt moving up to AA and Jeffers hitting well at Hi-A, they have two more good prospects not that far off. That's very good depth at a critical position, although they could use another good prospect In Rookie ball from this year's draft.

Article: MIN 8, LAA 3: Bats Break Loose Late
rdehring replied to AJ Condon's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There is no reason to believe he is going to hit in the low 200's. This kid has hit for an average no lower than .310 (2018 at Hi-A and AA) and closer to .350 every year since signing back when he was 16. There is no reason to expect he is going to hit for an average less than .300 in the big leagues. But you are right, he isn't likely to keep hitting at a +.600 clip.- 86 replies

I see that the Twins writer had a piece mentioning Javier this morning. Like everyone, he is saying he is expected back on the field soon. Am anxious to see how Stewart does tonight as I expect the Twins will need him for more than a spot double header start before the season is over.

Article: MIN 8, LAA 3: Bats Break Loose Late
rdehring replied to AJ Condon's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like manhy of you, down 3-0 I flipped to the news at 10:15 to see the weather and then went to sleep. Work up early and flipped on CNBC to catch the pre-market. Expected to see the Twins lost and would be playing for the series win today. Wrong, the crawler came along and saw the Minnesota 8-3 win. This team does not quit! Not only did Pineda settle down and go 6, but the bats erupted with the top of the order leading the way. I have been following Arraez closely since he hit nearly .350 in Cedar Rapids back in 2016. This kid can flat out hit, but has shown little power throughout his rise thru the system. Could that change with his arrival in the big leagues with their juiced ball? Saw the mention of Tony Gwynn above and would gladly take a Twins version of Tony Gwynn or Jose Altuve light.- 86 replies

Bad news about Jax, Seth. Any word on what the problem is? Is this expected to be a short stay on the IL, or is it something more? Interesting to see that after an ugly start to their season, Cedar Rapids is within two games of .500. Hopefully that will continue throughout the second half with an influx of players in June and hopefully, Javier, before then.

Article: MIN 3, LAA 1: Pitching Great, Sano Homers Late
rdehring replied to AJ Condon's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another day at the park, another multi-hit game for Arraez. Most of us wondered if he could keep doing this on the big stage. I guess he is answering our questions. But what do the Twins do when Cruz comes off the IL later this week? Do you send Arraez down? If not, what do you do because you don't want him to sit if he stays? Guess we will find out later this week. Gotta expect his brief stint, if that is what it is to be, will have some effect on whether or not the Twins extend/resign Schoop during or after the season. -
Always glad to see multi hit games from the top two prospects on the Top 20 list. But 30% of that group is out with injuries. Don't recall how many were injured in previous years, but this seems to be too many.

Do you recall the year when Sano was recovering from TJ surgery and Buxton was off all year with an injury I don't recall. Read once that much of the summer was spent by the two going to the complex to work out in the morning, then fishing together in the afternoon. Yes, I suspect they do feel like brothers. So happy to see the good Lewis Thorpe back on the mound for Rochester. A bit concerned that he only went 5.0 innings, but 8 K's will go a long way to getting up to 90 pitches quickly. Now lets see him get on a roll and have two, three more games like this. My concern is Romero who thru 27 pitches to get thru one inning. This kid has fantastic stuff, just can't seem to take that final step. Can we assume that Gonsalves will be activated any day? There is an old farmer saying that, "the cream always rises to the top." Well in Rochester, the cream is certainly looking like Luke Raley. They are what, a third thru the season? Project out his numbers and you have a .300 average, high .800's OPS and 20 home runs. Nobody knows more about these minor league kids than you, Seth. Would really be curious to know your thoughts and expectations about Sands?

Article: MIN 18, SEA 4: Sharks Eat Mariners
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Game got way too late to watch the last 5 innings. Got up and looked at the box score, wanted to see if Arraez played. He did and as usual, got a hit. Was surprised to see it was a double. Also good to see that we had the good Duffey pitch last night, although not certain what their lineup was like by the time he got into the game. Looking at your chart above, can't believe how rested the bullpen is. A little concerned that our pitching staff has given Seattle 11 runs in these three games, but sure like the 36 we have scored. Let's go for the sweep and guarantee another winning road trip. And how bout that Preakness yesterday. I was rooting for the horse without its jockey!- 48 replies

Every day I click on the Cedar Rapids box score hoping to see Wander Javier in the lineup. Every day I have been disappointed. Kind of ugly results again yesterday, 1-3. Was hoping Smeltzer would be superman, but I guess he is just a normal human after all. Hopefully, he will be stellar next time out. Which is what I am hoping we see from Lewis Thorpe tonight.

Article: Twins Prospect Spotlight: Luis Arraez
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really like what Schoop has been doing for the Twins. If it continues, I would like to see the Twins extend him. Expect the problem is going to be that he will want a longer term deal than the Twins will want to do. Meanwhile, this is a great week for all of us to see what Arraez can do, which is get hits and get on base. Hopefully, that will continue into the big leagues and he will confirm he is their next option at second base. Can't wait to see him in a game, unfortunately, it probably won't come until Monday in Anaheim. -
Thanks, Steve. Hopefully, the Twins will draft several college players in the upcoming draft and the Kernels will have a winning second half that will qualify for the playoffs. I guess if you are going to have one good half, it is better to be the second half which can carry a team into and thru the playoffs.

Find the use of Stewart as a 'Primary' pitcher interesting. He has twice been called up to start double headers for the Twins, thus, appears to be the next man up as a starter. Could they also be working to get him up here to help their bullpen? By bringing him into games later in games they are getting him used to doing something other than traditional starting. Could they be preparing him for some type of role in their bullpen, either a long role or piggybacking with one starter who doesn't pitch deep into games? There is no question the Twins have a need for more quality relief innings. This may be a way to get some of those from Kohl Stewart. Another advantage would be that he is then ready to step into a starting role, if/when it is needed. What a game from Diaz and several others at Fort Myers. Don't see three home run games very often. Hopefully, Smeltzer pitches another gem tonight.

rdehring replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Should be exciting to see Urbina play when the DSL opens in a bit over a month. Would really like to see him tear up that league. Although it has to be tough for 17-year old kids to leave their home for the summer in the D.R. Speaking of that, does anyone know if any of these kids have a problem getting out of Venezuela with everything going on there? Doesn't seem to have any effect on the many Venezuelan's currently on the Twins roster.- 30 replies

Article: Finer Points: Rule 5
rdehring replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I did a similar exercise about a month ago. Came up with pretty much the same list, thinking that there are 7 guys that are most likely going to need to be added: Jax, Raley, Alcala, Graterol, Smeltzer, Duran and Javier. Then there is the next group that will take some thought about whether to add or not. That includes: Cabbage, Blankenhorn, Hackimer, Poppen, Wiel, Stashek and Diaz. Wouldn't be surprised if at least one the this group is also added, maybe two. After that, took a look at who will be gone from the current roster and who could be DFA'd. Had way more than 8 players, including guys like Morin, Magill, Mejia, Moya, Vasquez, Torreyes. Add in a couple of the free agents who will no longer be around (Pineda, Reed, Castro, Schoop, Gibby, Odorizzi) and there shouldn't be a problem adding 8 or 9. The one thing we can cound on, however, is we are going to see a lot of turnover on the 40-man come November.- 30 replies
