I hope you realized I was being sarcastic when I made that statement. Although I didn't see much of Friday's game, I remain confident that Berrios can become that ACE type pitcher the Twins badly need. Like many, am disappointed he didn't dominate the Yankees Friday and pitch much deeper into the game. Don't know why he didn't, as I don't know why he slipped so badly in August. A true ACE can't do either. Maybe he will get there next year. Doesn't mean the Twins don't need to find another #1 or ACE level arm for next year. Where and how, not a clue, but that isn't my job.

Had a family commitment in Wisconsin and didn't see yesterday's game. Only got to watch a couple innings at Applebee's Friday, as Champps was full. Still burned about MLB's tv policy. Anyway, Monday is another day and hopefully, tv permitting, another game...it is available on FS1, isn't it? Don't know if I will be able to say that late Monday night. If not, will look back on the most exciting baseball season I can remember. Those late 50's years in Milwaukee may have been as or more exciting, but was a different time and are long gone from my memory. So win or lose on Monday, or Tuesday, or Thursday,...Thanks Twins for one hell of a fun season. No question the FO has some work to do this winter, but they have a fantastic base to build off of. And how long is it until that wonderful winter day when "Pitchers and Catchers report?"

Front Page: Twins ALDS Roster Announced
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not going to get into any of the decisions as I am just 1000% happy that the Twins will be playing baseball tonight. What I do find interesting, however, is Perez being left off the roster. Is that a sign that his option will not be picked up this winter? -
Front Page: ALDS Preview: This Is It
rdehring replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Will begin the comments with an optimistic prediction....Twins will win the series! The first surprise will be Randy Dobnak starting and dominating game 2 as the Twins even the series at 1-1. Dobnak plus three relievers, who will pitch 4 innings, put the Twins on a joyous flight back to the Twins Cities Saturday night. All predictions that he will be playing elsewhere in 2020 are forgotten when Eddie Rosario ignites the team to a punishing game 2 victory. In other playoff news, Luis Arraez will be on the playoff roster. He won't play, however, until they return to Minnesota for game 3 when he has his usual multi-hit night leading the Twins to a 2-1 series lead. Arraez, Cruz and Rosario show up big for game 4 as Delta Airlines replaces their Twins flight plan to NYC with one to Houston later in the week. So come Wednesday morning, just remember you read it first at Twins Daily! -
Who was the better pitcher in 2019 and who will be the better pitcher in the future may be two different answers. Will Dobnak be one of those guys who has been passed over his entire life, a person who has a bulldog mentality who continues to prove everyone wrong? I don't know the answer, but I will not rule out that he has a chance to be that pitcher. So to me, it isn't clear who the better pitcher will be going forward...beginning sometime this weekend.

Makes a lot of sense. But something way in the back of my mind is telling me the best pitching performance of the first three games will come from Dobnak...together with a couple/three relievers for innings 6-9. So no matter the results of game 1, I would trot Dobnak out to the mound for game 2.

Front Page: No MLB Network? Then No Game for You!
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks, but unfortunately, some of us older guys aren't real good about watching anything on any of those. Heck, I'm not real certain where my cell phone is as I haven't turned it on for probably a month. -
Front Page: No MLB Network? Then No Game for You!
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not true for all of us. You see some of us don't have a tv that will get You Tube or the technical ability to jump thru all the hoops to get some of those others. As for 4-6, I have Mediacom which I am led to believe won't have MLB. Follow this bloody team for the last whatever years and now gotta go to a sports bar to see game 1. So yah, I am p...….ed. -
Front Page: No MLB Network? Then No Game for You!
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for that info, John. Unfortunately, I spent much of a recent Thursday trying to figure out how to get YouTube when the Twins were playing that game that wasn't available anywhere else. Yup, you guessed it...I never got it. I cannot tell you how p...…..ed I am at major league baseball. Expect guys like St. Peter are getting an earful this week, and he should. Hopefully there are a couple corporate execs out there who call and cancel their big ticket plans for next year. Will catch the game at Champps for dinner, then listen to the late innings on the radio I guess. Hell of a way to treat your fans. -
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the NCAA D-1 scholarship limit is 11. Most teams break these up with the typical player getting a partial scholarship. With only 3 or so scholarships available each year, they recruit lots of players as walk-ons to fill out their rosters. So unless Mitch was a superstar coming out of high school, I can see why he was a walk-on.

Great article, Seth. Thanks! Birmingham sure sounds like one of those really good old time coaches who has been around for a long time. Would love to sit down at dinner with him some night and just listen to the stories. I know I was in the Turner camp for several years after the two were drafted. Expect the Twins saw what they had with Garver as he worked so hard to improve his play behind the plate. Biggest question going forward is how many games a year does he play and how many at a second position, be it first base or DH...90, 100, 120?

Front Page: Watch Game 1 of the ALDS with Twins Daily!
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is it true that the only way to watch the game Friday is on MLB Network? If it is, I cannot say how upsetting that is for those of us who do not have it. Could consider coming to your event, but being out in downtown Minneapolis at 10pm is way past my comfort zone. -
Front Page: Week in Review: Powerful Ending
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Its shaping up to be an awfully quiet week, Nick. But will it be the quiet before the storm? And if there is going to be a storm, will it be an Alberta Clipper sweeping into New York from the Great Plains and washing those Yankees out to sea? Or will it be a Nor'easter that comes out of New England with a whoopin put on our Twins?- 16 replies

Front Page: Series Preview: One More Time
rdehring replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Royales team I saw here last weekend was competitive, especially the top four or five hitters in that lineup. Contrary to the general tone of your article, I recall that they played the Twins tough all year. As for playing for home field advantage, with our road record I'm not certain we want it. -
Front Page: Randy Dobnak Is More Than a Great Story
rdehring replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wouldn't that be fantastic? Thought may keep me smiling all winter! -
The more I watch Dobnak pitch, the more I am reminded of someone I used to watch who was very good. You know, like a bulldog. Problem is I just cannot recall who it was. Heck, it may have been someone with the Braves back in the 60's. My point is that I see a starter who has come out of nowhere, a starter who just might end up being special. With Dobnak, Schmeltzer, Thorpe, Graterol, and others, maybe the Twins only need to fill 3 spots in the rotation over the winter.

Front Page: Lets’s Go Crazy! Let’s Get Nuts!
rdehring replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks, Parker. Loved the video. While watching was thinking how beat up this team is. Buxton only played half a season, yet, had 30 doubles. The big reliever they traded for pitched only a hand ful of games. Sano will have around 35+ home runs after missing the first 6 weeks. Gonzalez and Adrianza are two of the better utility guys in the game, yet, both are questionable/out for the first series. Cron and Kepler are beat up. Then there is Gibby and well, Pineda. Is it a better question to ask who is healthy? -
Not a clue as to what Gibson's role will be and who will be on the playoff roster. That's what they pay the coaching staff big bucks to decide. Personally, I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the playoffs. Should the Twins be so fortunate to win 3 of the first series and move on, HOOOOORAAAAH! If not, will look back on one of the most enjoyable baseball seasons I have seen in a long, long time.
-
I don't see any problem with what the Twins did, assuming their medical staff did review whatever the Giants forwarded to them. When deals are made minutes before the deadline, a physical isn't practical. None of us has seen those records and don't know what they say. And the Giants also probably aren't at fault, unless there was knowledge he was more than aching and didn't include it in the reports. Don't know what the league does in situations like this. Probably would be best if they could work something out between themselves and not get the league involved. Should they return one of the pitching prospects, I would be happy.

Front Page: Twins AFL Report - Week 1: Royce Rollin'
rdehring replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't know how one can say that Jeffers has passed Rortvedt. Wasn't Rortvedt moved up to AA well before Jeffers? And he hit well there until he started battling the injuries. If I recall, Jeffers made the move around the time Rortvedt was battling his injuries before missing the later part of the season? I don't know which will end up being the better Twin, but suspect both will eventually play in the major leagues. The future for either with the Twins appears to be as Garver's backup, playing about +40% of the time. Although either could fill that role by 2021, expect you are right and Rortvedt's bat will have to improve, whereas, Jeffers will need to improve his D.- 16 replies

Front Page: Twins AFL Report - Week 1: Royce Rollin'
rdehring replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks, Steve. I recall hearing several years ago that a high percentage of players from the AFL go on to play in the big leagues the following year. Don't remember the percentage, but it was higher than I would have guessed. With Lewis beginning his fall as one of the stars, seems like there is a good chance he will be in Minnesota sometime in 2020. But where will it be on the diamond? The AFL also provides him the opportunity to shine and move up in those national rankings.- 16 replies

Front Page: A Stab at the Twins Postseason Roster 2.0

Agree with the 12, Ted. But would flip Stashak and Graterol with Stashak being the lock.
