  1. Been out here in the desert and haven't seen the Twins play yet this year. Checked and saw today's game was on You Tube which our property has. After the first few hitters, was wondering what is everybody complaining about this spring. I don't see any problems with the Twins. I know he has way too many injuries, but the Twins have to build this team around Buxton going forward. Gotta get him and Berrios to sign on a dotted line.
  2. And my biggest concern was having HULU and not being able to watch the Twins this summer. When we get back from our long delayed trip west, gonna think long and hard about getting the MiLB tv package and forget about switching to AT&T to watch the Twins. Not seeing any games live, do the players look like they are playing hard, fighting to win? Or have they already checked it in for the season? Yes, it is early, but from reading game reports, box scores and here, it seems like this is a bad baseball team and the season is over. Can all of these players really be this bad? If this is a bad team, can the FO make the moves to begin the rebuild this summer and get it done quickly? Will they admit their mistakes and act? Are there enough good prospects in the high minors to make an impact this year? And will the FO have the balls to cut bait on this manager? I hated the excessive shifting since he got here, especially when someone like Dobnak is on the mound. But an occasional head scratching decision seems to have become a daily event. Where is Tom Kelly when we need him?
  3. Interesting moves, Seth. Especially Gordon. I saw your link to John's report. Have you heard more about how he has been doing in St. Paul the past several weeks? What are your thoughts on how he will be used by the Twins? Will he be at short with Polanco at second, Arraez in left and Kirilloff at first? Could this be the beginning of a retooling or mini rebuild by the Twins?
  4. Savior, no. But an important part of the mini-rebuilding project the Twins need to undertake, yes.
  5. I haven't been a fan of Rocco for some time. Mostly because of frequent shifts, etc. But there was another pitching decision earlier in the game that caused the problem in the late innings. Isn't Randy Dobnak a 6th starter who is stretched out to pitch multiple innings? Well, he got used for one inning earlier in the game and had a nice clean inning. With Maeda having a short start, shouldn't Dobnak been kept out there for 2 or 3 innings at the minimum? Had he done that, Rogers wouldn't have been pushed to one of the longest outings of his career and the game just might have not been as close come the ninth inning. But count me among those who questions what seems like several decisions every day that just don't make sense to this old guy.
  6. Not saying that at all, Mike. But I believe the team would have some fight in them. Not being able to watch any of the games, all I am seeing is the box scores and reading comments here and elsewhere. But sure sounds like the team doesn't have any spunk in them, any fight. Could be from lack of leadership on the field or in the dugout, could be because of all the chaos related to players missing because of COVID, or could be because a player who was the guy to fire'em up is gone. I'm not in the locker room, so I don't know. But I do know that Eddie was one of the guys that appeared to be a spark plug in previous seasons.
  7. All winter when many here and elsewhere where clamoring for the Twins to cut Rosario loose, I often mentioned that there was a risk in doing so. Why? Because he was the heart and soul of this team. Yes, the Twins have leaders on the field. Guys like Cruz and Donaldson and hopefully a few others. But they are missing something. I maintain it is their heart and soul who is now playing in Cleveland.
  8. I hit the like button Twinfan603, then deleted it. There is nothing to like about your comment...it is just too bloody depressing thinking about those three top-6 picks. What is even worse is that I can't remember who they all were...now that's depressing.
  9. To answer your question, sure. Realistically, probably not.
  10. Do they also play 30 games against Omaha, Seth? If so, that is half their schedule against two teams. Assume it will change in 2022 when COVID is behind us...hopefully. Seeing I am among those who doesn't get to watch the Twins, can't wait for the farm clubs to begin playing. Do you know if they will have their usual MiLB tv package? Keep checking the minor league website and see nothing but the old 2019 message. Thinking it may be a good alternative to get some baseball this summer.
  11. Interesting comment. Gotta wonder if Rowson made that much of a difference. Unfortunately, we will never know.
  12. Interesting article, Nick. Would prefer you didn't feel the need to write about this subject. Unfortunately, this kid just isn't getting it done like he and the Twins expect. Hopefully, the season is only a couple weeks long and this is an early season slump.
  13. Biggest news yesterday wasn't on the field or in the stands, rather in the locker room later when most of the Twins were vaccinated. In a couple weeks they can think about getting back closer to normal. Every year or two someone gets an opportunity and runs with it. Two years ago it was Arraez. Will it be Garlick this year? Will he end up blocking all those young prospects by performing way better than we could hope for?
  14. A week into the season, yup, was a mistake. But isn't hindsight always 20/20? Looking back when the decision was made, didn't have a problem and like many was surprised when he was selected. Wonder if all the former Twins guys in the Detroit organization may have had some insight into what he could become. Now, lets get concerned by the Twins getting a W today, fixing that bloody extra inning runner on second rule and getting Twins baseball back on the tv services many of us have.
  15. Can't watch the game and it is a lot harder to get a good feel when listening on the radio. But really wonder about some of the decisions being made early this year. Happ started the season after missing about half of spring training. Yet, he was kept in to pitch as many, or was it the most, pitches of any starter first time thru the rotation? Didn't Garlick beat out Rooker to start the season. Yet, since Rooker has been called up it seems like he is starting every game as Garlick sits. Is Garlick nursing an injury? Don't understand why he hasn't seen almost any action. And gon't get me started thinking about this bloody second base/extra inning rule. Again, couldn't see the game but don't understand why Polanco wasn't sent home on a single to the outfield. Then was on a contact play to get thrown out for the second time of the game.
  16. Buxton. Why, look at their record when he plays and doesn't play. if they can get 140 games a year out of him, he could be an MVP one of these years.
  17. Thanks Chief, got a good laugh out of that one. I guess the answer is having Donaldson take hitting lessons from Sano. Strike out most of the time so he can walk back to the dugout. When he doesn't K, he can jog around the bases for his home run.
  18. Let's stay optimistic, guys. Donaldson will take today and tomorrow off, then return Sunday where his bat makes the difference in the Twins second win of the season. Nooooooooo Way do I want to see his name on any IL, DL or any other list this early in the season.
  19. Interesting roster, Seth. With 20 pitchers, at least six are going to have to move down to AA when the season opens. To be honest, I don't see any obvious names to make that move. Who do you see moving down? I know people have wondered where Wiel is. Another player missing to me is Celestino. Any word on him, Seth? Do you think Rortvedt will stick at AAA? I think most people were expecting him to begin his season at Wichita.
  20. I disagree with the last part of your statement..."except for the most recent month or so when he was totally figured out" I don't think anyone figured anything out. If memory serves, Dobnak's pitches move a lot. What I saw beginning about the 3rd inning of that debacle in St. Louis where several weak ground balls against the shift put him in a hole. As he tried to pitch out of the jam, his ball began moving much more. And much of that movement took it so far out of the zone no one was swinging and he was constantly in a hitters count. To me, seemed something was happening, either mental or mechanical, that he couldn't get past. Expect that is now behind him and we will see the Dobber we knew prior to that game.
  21. Great signing of a guy with a wonderful story. Good for the Twins. Good for Dobnak. Gotta make his family happy knowing they are set for life. Saw that there are some bonuses included in the deal for innings pitched. Are they for the extension years only? Or also included in the initial five years? Could be very important for Dobber. Am beginning to have a feeling that we won't see an extension for Berrios this year or next. Is the FO beginning to plan for a staff without Jose? Expectations are so high, yet hasn't been able to do it consistently. With that said, they will probably announce his extension tomorrow.
  22. Lots of good comments. But I think I will sit back and wait to see how Rocco handles this. I like the idea I read above of Dobber stacking with say, Happ, and pitching 4-5 innings to close out his first start. But I also cringed when reading the above comment that it is a waste of his appearance if the Twins are down 4 or 5 runs when he gets into the game. Yes, these early games count as much as the last week of September. Expect by mid-season everything will have worked its way out and will be shocked if one or two of the first week's starters aren't on the IL or even no longer with the Twins. Will be equally shocked if Dobber doesn't get more than 150 innings this year, which is about the most he can be expected to provide.
  23. Dobnak was one of the Twins best pitchers last year, prior to that disaster in St. Louis after which he couldn't throw strikes. No reason to be surprised that he is having a good spring, with a new pitch making it a great spring. Will be a bloody shame if he isn't among the Twins starting 5 come opening week considering he is one of their three best starters. The Twins are a better team and will win more games if he takes the ball every fifth day. Maybe the answer is to stack him with Happ and give the rest of the bullpen the day off. That would mean they would be rested when overworked the other four days.
  24. Assuming it is 13+13, which is what Ted has above, will be interesting as heck as to the pitcher who doesn't make it. To be honest, haven't followed as close this spring to be aware that Law, whoever he is, is pitching this well. Expect that is do to not seeing any games on tv, which is another subject I don't want to think about. But who doesn't make it? Most years there will be a late injury right before breaking camp. Will that happen again? Good news is that if it is this difficult to identify the top 26, should be a strong team.
