  1. Will agree with those above wondering why Duffey wasn't mentioned. He could be the best of all. Also wondering who the new guy will be this year, someone like Alcala last year, Graterol the year before?
  2. Interesting. I like what you have done with signing bonuses this year and next. That should be viewed as a positive from Berrios side of the table. But in reality, I don't care what the terms are. I just want to see them get it done.
  3. The best news of spring has been how dominant the starters have been first time out. Now lets see them keep doing it all the way into the season. Assume that there hasn't been any talk about teams or the league signing a deal with JNJ or one of the others to get their entire team vaccinated before breaking camp. With the availability of vaccines getting much better, has anyone heard any talk of that?
  4. Have been a huge fan of Polanco's since he signed that same year as Kepler and Sano. What I recall is that when signed, the word was that his big bonus was because of his glove more so than bat. Interesting how that has played out.
  5. I expect to see AK eventually as the Twins regular first baseman. No reason that he can't become better than average defensively at first. May never hit 40+ home runs, but 30 bombs together with a +.300 average and lots of doubles will make him that special player. Moving to first may be what is best for AK AND the Twins, considering the number of top outfield prospects in the organizaiton.
  6. Thanks so much, Cory. Coming from someone involved with this difficult process, it is enlightening. If all who post negative comments wanting to blame someone would read your post, I would hope they would understand what is taking place. Truth is, sometimes sh.... happens and everyone needs to be patient and wait for someone to get it out of the barn.
  7. Interesting, Cody, especially if there are only 12 position players. Astudillo is in St. Paul should there be a need for a third catcher. Kirilloff will be getting quality AAA at bats and be ready when there is a need for a corner outfielder or at first base. But what if/when there is a need for an infielder? Who can come up and be a quality replacement for a week, month or rest of the year? It may have been Lewis, but not any more. Gordon is a long shot? Blankenhorn really doesn't have the defense to play regularly in the middle infield...does he? I see that as one weakness to this year's roster construction. I also think there may be a good chance the Twins go with 5.5 starting pitchers. Have a long relief guy (Dobnak?) on the roster to make a spot start every time they play six days straight. They are gonna have to do something with all starters pitching limited innings last year. Should be fun speculating how they are gonna solve it.
  8. I started reading the article assuming that you were writing about Blankenhorn. Was shocked to see you were actually writing about Gordon. Question, if Dozier who was selected in the eighth round of the draft is a late round pick, what is someone taken in the 20's or later?
  9. I will continue to believe that being the Player Rep and all the related responsibilities weighed heavily on him last year. Look for the old Taylor to return in 2021.
  10. Rooker got a sniff of the big leagues last summer. Seems like he is going to take that experience and run with it. Don't know where he will play in the lineup this year or next, but will be surprised if he isn't on the roster and playing a lot.
  11. Interesting discussion about Arraez. Many believe he will not continue putting up the numbers he has throughout his career. I ask, why not? Just went back and looked at three guys who in some way were similar. Comparing Luis to the three indicated he put up similar or maybe even a bit better numbers during his first two years. The three were Rod Carew, Tony Gwynn and Pete Rose. Were people saying similar things about them when they had been in the league a couple years? Granted the world was different then and there wasn't an internet, so probably not. Yet, none of us know what the future holds for Arraez. I ask, why can't he be the next Rose, Carew or Gwynn?
  12. Interesting, Cody, thanks. And count me among those who appreciate your having Arraez this high on your ranking. Seems so many don't appreciate what he brings to the game. Maybe he is more of a 1960's player than during today's advanced metrics age. Those of us who enjoyed baseball back then do appreciate him. When so many of us here and elsewhere were agitated that the front office didn't do enough this winter to bring in more/better starters, Falvey seemed to indicate he was satisfied with what they had in their system. Could pitchers like Duran be part of the reason he felt that way?
  13. Great read, Seth. Many ask who will be the better big league player, Kirilloff or Larnach? I ask why can't both be great?
  14. Great article in today's Strib about Broxton. Had me thinking he could force a trade of Cave and give the Twins improved defense at all three outfield spots together with speed from their fourth outfielder. Expect they may also get something meaningful back for Cave.
  15. I think Rooker will see a lot of time with the Twins this year. Expect the Twins will use the year to evaluate whether or not Rooker is the player to step in as main DH and backup first base/left field after Cruz is gone. If it looks like he isn't that player, they can always trade him next winter or spring.
  16. You are probably correct. But I doubt there are any restrictions about his traveling to the Twins Cities a couple times later this summer for a week to have his knee checked out by the surgeon and hang out with the team in the clubhouse, on the field before the game, etc.
  17. Have been wondering about the Saints starting rotation, considering their unusual schedule. Seeing that they will have all 6-game series from Tuesday thru Sunday, would they consider a 6-man rotation? Has anyone at TD heard anything about this possibility? Will be thrilled if Jax is on this roster, what a great story.
  18. Having been a long-time fan of Thorpe, these comments could not make me happier. More important, they seem to be making Thorpe and the Twins staff very happy as well. There are several pitchers battling for that #5 spot in the rotation. Looks like Thorpe has tossed his hat in the ring with Shoemaker, Dobnak, Smerltzer and a couple of the young guns. With so many hats in the ring and only one spot (at this time), it is likely he will begin in St. Paul, or not. I am beginning to understand why Falvey made that comment about liking what the Twins had in house for the starting rotation.
  19. Thanks guys for completing this exercise, it is fun to see all your work and to agree or disagree with certain rankings. It is appreciated! Must say the player I am most excited about is Canterino. Noticed the same items you talked about as I read through this, ie, the organization is heavy on outfielders and thin in the infield and lefties. Assuming you have Sabato as an infielder and he could end up as a DH, the infield really is very thin. Thanks again Nick, and all.
  20. What did I say that you disagree with? Neither of us know how his spring will progress and whether or not he will be with the team on opening day. My comment was that I don't expect the Twins to base their decision of where he begins his year based on service time. Considering that the kid has yet to play his first game at the AAA level, it is possible some time at AAA would be best for his development.
  21. Which one, Cody? Heck, let's be greedy and hope all four have break-out seasons in 2021...big time break-outs.
  22. Wanted to copy what I wrote in John's Out of Left Field post: With what we have seen from the Pohlads the last year, everything they have done has been positive. When teams weren't paying their minor league guys, the Twins paid them the entire season. When teams were laying off employees, the Twins didn't. When local teams were donating dollars to social causes, the Twins tripled or better their donations. Recently there were comments that they would not be cutting payroll this year to make back losses from last year. The Twins are a 'class' organization, so I will say that I don't expect them to manipulate AK's service time. He may start at AAA, but if he does it will be because that is where his play this spring says is the best place for him to be.
