  1. Yes, from a pure baseball standpoint: it's odd to say because Garver isn't even that great of a catcher (ok offensively, not great defensively) but that is his only value to this team. If he can't catch, there is zero reason for him to be on our roster
  2. Yikes at our middle infield defense between Schoop and Polanco staying at short because of this
  3. I like Ehire as an emergency quadruple-A utility type but banking on anything more than that is asking to be disappointed. I get his player archetype so I mean, yeah it would be nice if he were a better hitter but that's not what really holds him back. It's that his upside is that he's the utility IF at most and you'd expect him to have both a better glove and better pure speed/savvy as a baserunner than he actually has.
  4. I'm curious why should he be at 3B? Why does that have to be his position? Why so opposed to moving him?
  5. I'll take one of the best players of his generation in a heartbeat
  6. This is exactly what it signals, that they are planning on rolling with Sano at 3B to start...
  7. Nothing like adding another non-versatile, remotely average offensively right-handed 1B/DH type to the roster
  8. I have the bad feeling that Reed has elbow issues as well and probably has fired most of his "good bullets." We will know pretty quickly next year how his arm is holding up too. Management needs to be honest with themselves and know they can't bank on him being reliable for the 2019 season
  9. With a 13 man bullpen common though now, it is really, really hard to carry someone on the bench of that skillset if they can't provide any defensive versatility. If we have Sano/Cruz/Donaldson, Austin is not making the roster. No way they could carry all 4
  10. Contending for a central title vs. contending for a world series are two very different things. Sure, with a good offseason we could on paper compete for the central but in no way is this team even remotely close to being world series contenders
  11. Baldelli is a fresh start and a new voice for Byron but Rocco isn't going to step into the plate and hit curveballs for Byron. Not saying coaching doesn't matter because it does but eventually it doesn't matter what the coaching is, if you can't hit it consistently, you can't hit it consistently.
  12. Agreed. How much you can put on Shelton is up for debate but it's just bad optics more than anything to let the current leader go and then bring his right hand man up. It feels then like a change wasn't really made
  13. I'm happy with the hire, now give him an actual roster with actual talent to work with and we'll see what happens
  14. Usually the goal of the offseason is to get better and make improvements
  15. Agree to disagree on this being "taking a risk"
  16. Thank you for answering even better than I could have.
  17. Maybe if our leadership was willing to take an actual chance or an actual risk
  18. If they miss out on a SS this offseason, then yeah you could go back to Polanco being there next year but there is absolutely no reason they shouldn't be pursuing and looking into other options there.
