  1. Agreed….but we’ve got a looooong season left with only 1-2 slots in the rotation really a lock.
  2. Trade for even an above average return…. Realistically the real WS window cracks (if it opens) in 2 years at which point he’ll be gone anyway. I will trade a season of getting pounded in the 1st round of the playoffs by Houston for some above average prospects in return.
  3. There should be a Starting Pitcher Subway Sandwich promotion. Once we punch off 12 for this season, we should all get a free 12” sandwich. Run with this TD!
  4. My heart wants Greene but my brain wants Wright. Many people on this site rightfully focus on the need for multiple plus pitches to be a #3 or higher starter (make it through the line up more than 2 times). My biggest concern for Greene (yes, bigger than TJ surgery), is the wildcard of his secondary pitches. They take some level of ‘feel’ that is not always coachable.
  5. Busenitz with 1 walk and 15 Ks in 12 innings?!!!!!! If there are no promotions, we may have to covertly hook up the Twins dugout phone to contact the AAA bullpen instead….
  6. While I very much like TD doing this summaries. Yikes, there is nary a good prospect in sight….
  7. Thanks to TD for putting these monthly summaries together; one of the best contributions. If Wade and Granite can continue to maximize their potential….they replace Rosario and Grossman over the next 1-2 years. Together, they would make us more well-rounded defensively and offensively (as well as cheap and controllable).
  8. I think there are very few ACEs (5-10 at most). They need to consistently (>2 yrs) be able to dominate elite hitters and line ups hopefully to include high pressure playoff situations if needed.
  9. Mauer is fine for now... BUT, if Park or Palka really start to mash with reasonable control of the strike zone in AAA, he immediately becomes a liability at 1st (obviously a premium offensive position) Given our pitching staff, we are going to have to continue to score runs....lots and lots of runs...
  10. In the land of #5 starters, a #2.5 starter is an ACE. But no, will not be seen as an ACE by other clubs at the trade deadline which is what matters most. He IS a wonderful signing and a great pitcher to have.
  11. Anybody seen Stewart pitch (live or video) this year? Any insight? If he continues to add walks to the lack of strike outs....look out below....
  12. Garver is also too legit....too legit to sit (around waiting to be called up)....sorry off thread but I couldn't resist
  13. Trade IF you get a good return.... I like that the new FO is willing to be flexible and patient (and showing the league). Patience early will help them to extract fair to better value in the years to come
  14. Grossman AND DanSan?! Where do I sign up for season tickets! I hope the prices haven't increased yet
  15. No worries.... at least our starting pitching is....er...ah.... We'll you just wait until Jay gets up to the MLB THEN our bullpen will be....er...ah...umm What's cookin' for the 2018 Draft!
  16. I think Dozier should actually bat behind Sano. From his leadoff success, Dozier has proven that he can supply his own power without line up protection....but I do think that Sano and the Ks (name of a band?!) would benefit from some line up protection.
  17. Mauer was an outstanding talent and we were fotunate to have him (Mark Prior anyone?!) He earned every penny that the Twins have paid him over his entire career. He will be an asset to the community and possibly the Twins after he retires. Having said that, he has not been the same player since the injury. I hope for his sake and the team's sake that he is utilized as described in multiple posts above for his last two years
  18. Ummm. While the Indian starters were not in the same league as the Cubs starters....they were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the Twins starters. We'll use WAR acknowledging that all stats have their limitations: Kluber: 6.5 Carrasco: 3.6 Bauer: 3.0 Salazar: 2.9 Tomlin 1.6 Twins: Santana: 3.8 Gibson:0.6 Duffey: -1.6 I'll stop there to avoid making TD readers nauseous. Starting pitching is not either outstanding or not. There is a continuum. Starting pitching needs to be at least good/solid for an elite bullpen to matter. The bullpen will not save the day without solid starting pitching. And there is still a loooooooooong way to go before we can claim even an above average bullpen Some of the injuries happened at the end of season and as pointed out by others, a bullpen can better cover for this in the playoffs.
  19. There is a lot of middle ground between #1 pitcher and relief pitcher... and a long way to go to know where 7-40 players settle out. We drafted ultimately drafted a relief pitcher at #6 who turned out to be …… a relief pitcher. This simply cannot be considered a positive. The aggressive positive spin is making me dizzy again. Even indirect comparisons to the current elite MLB relief pitchers is just ridiculous.
  20. "During last year's postseason fans saw the importance of dominant relief pitchers like Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman." This was on teams with actual starting pitching. The current Twins do not have anywhere near playoff starting pitching. There is a reason that the Yankees traded the relief assets they did last year for young talent....they did not have the starting pitching to win that year, therefore making the elite relief superfluous (and they could just sign them back if they wanted Again....Jay to the bullpen may indeed allow the twins to get the most out of him. But the pick at #6 for a relief pitcher will remain a disappointment no matter how many times we spin in circles. (And I dost think that we are getting a wee bit ahead of ourselves to think that transitioning Jay to the pen automatically equates to a top 5 MLB reliever.
  21. I don't think the "wind blowing in" helped get Duffy 10 Ks.... Nice work.... good to see him pitching well (which he will need to do to serve the team well in the starting line up or the pen)
  22. Nice research, but the answer to the question is still a simple no.
  23. Outstanding! (still laughing) Quick mental exercise. If we release DanSan would he be on another MLB 25 man roster on opening day? I for one would bet no, which would make us taking him North...just a wee bit sad.
