  1. I agree with you folks re: Falvey. This is his team now - he's supposed to be the next Theo Eptstein and we can't expect him to fix this train wreck over night. I'm MUCH happier that he's in charge right now. He's watching what's going on, and we'll see some interesting moves at the deadline. Ryan (who I do respect) was out of his depth with this mess. I think Molitor has to go for this team to make a turnaround. The Pohlads' insistence that Molitor stick around was a horrible handcuff for this new regime.
  2. Agreed. The pitching staff (warts and all) has been giving this team a chance to win every game. We know they're not going to keep this up. We expected lots of tinkering this year on this staff and we're likely to get our money's worth. But up until this point, it seems like it's the offense that's been getting lucky. Being handed 5-run first innings. Getting a pitcher to walk 6 guys in a row. Scoring on balks and errors, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'll take it! But geez. I love Twins baseball but these last coupla years have been rough!
  3. You're right, Mauer's not doing so great. But we've got Buxton in the lineup and he's an automatic out. Rosario's not looking good. Castro's in free-fall here. You can't really justify Mauer batting lower than 5th at this point. What's your lineup with Mauer batting 8th? I disagree on Sano. Think he's had a solid year, lots of walks and 4 dingers, not bad.
  4. Then....he probably won't have a very good MLB career if he can't hit AAA pitching. I think he can. He's clearly overmatched at the MLB level right now, though. Maybe that injury year really set him back. Looks like it's "wait 'til next year" with Buxton again.
  5. He's going to have to hit much better than he has - even to stay up through May. He's not "struggling" right now. He's not "slumping". He's not "in a bad patch". Buxton isn't a major league hitter right now. If you took a high school prospect - today - and threw him into the Twins batting order tomorrow....that's what you're getting right now with Bux. Strikeouts, foul outs, and bunt outs. Mostly strikeouts. It's bad on historic levels. It's one thing to let a young guy work things out. It's another to allow a player to set records for futility. Bux has a lot of work to do to stick with this team past April 30 at this point.
  6. Welp, the offense didn't capitalize on opportunities against a bad pitcher, and the Twins 'pen came in and blew the lead. Deja Vu all over again....
  7. Breaking news - Castro is indeed the #8-9 hitter we thought he was. How many of those do we have? On the plus side, another fantastic outing by Ervin! The dude's en fuego here.
  8. Eeeps. 3-2 loss in the mail here?
  9. He wasn't trying to sacrifice, there were 2 outs. He was aware of that. Bux is in a mental funk of the highest order, he knew he couldn't strike out so he chose the easiest way to put the bat on the ball. Not exactly what you want out of your "potential game-changing superstar". The scary part is that most of us were just fine with that choice he made! Yeeps! Here's hoping he gets a hit or 2 today.
  10. We all want Bux to succeed, no question. And this really hurts. Like the first commenter said, there are hundreds of rookies and 2nd-year players out there...and every single one of them is outplaying Buxton. Every. Single. One. I think we'd all be okay right now if Bux was hitting .219. We'd at least be able to say "okay, it's still early". But aside from some pitchers, he's the worst hitter in baseball right now. By a long shot. He's getting to the point where he's setting records in futility, and I'm not sure how you can keep running him out there. I'm going to say it: time for Rochester. I know we all don't want to do that, but it's time, folks. It's okay to let a guy "find himself" if he has a map. Buxton's lost and at this point he's got to start over. Complete hitting rehab. 2017 is another lost season, I'm afraid. Let another outfielder come up and see what he can do. Why waste valuable development time for another player?
  11. Any chance Molitor called for that?
  12. Buxton up with 2 on and 2 out in a meaningful at bat here....
  13. And Betts is just 24 years old. Francisco Lindor is 23. Rougned Odor is 23. Carlos Correia down in Houston is 22. These are legit, All-Star caliber players who have already proven themselves. Buxton is 23. I am all for letting Bux keep trying here. Hope he succeeds, just like the rest of you. But when he comes up and strikes out with 2 on and 2 out in a close game (again), it's hard not to be extremely frustrated.
  14. He's pretty much been an epic failure, alas. Twins fans have been heavily emotionally invested in his success for the past 3-4 years. Buxton didn't deliver last year. He was given a pass by everyone. Buxton's start to this year has been historically bad. He is the worst hitter in the entire major leagues right now. Not "near the bottom", not "below average" - the worst. Period. Buxton's not just performing below expectations, his performance has been gut-wrenchingly horrible. I think patience has worn thin and rightfully so. Do any of us want this? No. But some of us are starting to accept the fact that Buxton might be a bust.
  15. Which is why playing Buxton right now is so dangerous. There's not enough guys 1-8 that can offensively carry a player who's basically an automatic out. Plus you have a pitching staff that's unsteady at best, especially 3-4-5 starters. A real quandry.
  16. For all the complaints about Gibson, it's awful to see the Twins fill the bases on offense, knock the ball all over the place, and somehow have only scored 1 run. How the Twins managed to score just one run over those first few innings is sooooo frustrating. The Twins just don't get those opportunities enough that they can waste them like that. Especially with Pelfrey Lite on the mound.
  17. Only the Twins would be losing this game at this point.
  18. There's nobody else. I think Polanco's our best bet, but that just shows how much trouble the Twins are in, power-wise. Maybe Grossman? I dunno.
  19. The Cleveland logo is unquestionably offensive. Not quite as offensive as Byron Buxton's bat - striking out with the bases loaded yesterday cost the Twins the game. The "but his glove" excuse is getting pretty old. Rosario's been garbage too. The Twins need to score runs. We've got an awful Kyle Gibson on the mound tonight. I'm feeling a 6-1 loss heading our way. BUT: that's why they play the game! Who knows? Maybe Eddie Escobar will get inserted in the lineup and provide a lucky spark. Kepler should be batting next to Sano in this lineup, in front or behind. Park healthy yet?
  20. Since I live outside of the States, no family stuff today. Relaxing at home and waiting for the Twins game to start. Would be nice to see more than 5-6 from Santiago today, and a series win wouldn't be too shabby!
  21. You make great points on what he's contributed in regards to his on base percentage, etc. And he's done....fine. He hit a big home run yesterday and I'm happy about it, too. I'm not arguing, just offering my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong about the DH role, perhaps the style of hitter has evolved over the years and I've missed it.
  22. Agree with this post to a tee, great summary indeed. Sano is legit and is truly arriving this year. Huge question marks regarding the rotation. Gibson. For some reason, we've been drinking the kool-aid on this guy for years, believing him to be "solid". Why? We'd all love to see Berrios step up and shine, but alas he's got a case of the Buxtons and hasn't performed at the MLB level. This rotation needs a major shakeup in the 2-5 spots for this team to think about contending. Still fun to be able to say the word "contending". I'll take 6-3 right now and be quite happy with it.
  23. I'm torn on this one. One one hand, I really really want Park or Vargas to be the full-time DH. I'd love to see the Twins DH be their 4 or 5 hitter, and be someone that hits for power and RBI. That said, Edwin Encarnacions don't grow on trees, and right now neither Park or Vargas has shown they can be that guy. Park is a question mark right now and his hammy injury keeps the picture cloudy. Grossman has been doing what's asked of him. But the Twins really aren't asking for much, and it seems the fans aren't either. Have we become so easy to please that a DH who hits 15 HR and bats .265 is considered to be a great fit for that role? Grossman would be an ideal pinch hitter in the NL. I like that he's getting on base, but don't let your low expecations allow you to believe he's this team's answer at DH.
