  1. I agree of course it's an improvement, but pretty underwhelming. Meh. Just win more games!
  2. Agreed. If Duffy's taken over 7th inning duties, Belisle/Pressley are there to handle the 8th, and Haley's the mop-up guy, then what is Tonkin's role? I can see keeping Breslow only because he's a veteran lefty, and they can often bring value in a mid-season trade. It might help to have a backup for Rogers in that role also, in case something happens to him.
  3. Mauer with the bloop! Two on, one out!
  4. mazeville's right - Twins fans were absolutely promised much, much more than what we are seeing. I don't think we're being unreasonable to expect more. It would be one thing if Buxton was 2-for-30 at this point in the year. But he's 2-for-30 with 17 strikeouts. There's a difference between an 0-4 day and an 0-4 day with 4 K's.
  5. If you strike out 75% of the time you come to the plate, it doesn't matter how well you're fielding. You're out of a job and out of the league. I think all of our expectations are very, very low right now. What we're afraid of is that Buxton isn't worthy of wearing a uniform at this point.
  6. To understand the problem with "being patient" with Buxton, you just have to look at the game right now. Twins down 2-0, but are putting together a 1-out rally late in the game. They've got 2 men on and could string a couple hits together and win this thing. Problem is, Buxton's coming up soon. Do his teammates feel extra pressure when you're batting in front of an 8th grader? Probably. Do the Tigers know the 8th grader is a guaranteed K right now? Probably. This is a big problem, one that MLB teams don't have to face at this level of the game.
  7. This game reminds me of the beginning of last year, when a 2-0 deficit might as well have been 10-0.
  8. 1. Polanco is legit. He might be "The Guy" (see item #4) 2. Sano is the monster we thought he was 3. Starting pitching was great in the first week last year too. I'm encouraged, but still not convinced that Santiago, Hughes, Gibson, and whoever's in the 5-hole will keep this up. 4. Buxton isn't the next Mike Trout, and we'll be lucky if he's the next Otis Nixon. With guys like Kepler, Rosario, and Sano...why do we keep the spotlight on Buxton to be "The Guy"? Polanco is just 23 years old, same as Bux. His future looks brighter than Buxton's right now and he just might be our #3 hitter by the end of 2017. Maybe we should stop worrying about whether or not Buxton figures it out, and just enjoy watching Jorge Polanco make the All-Star team. 5. The Twins are 5-1. Hell yeah!
  9. There's that hit with RISP! Way to go, Joe!
  10. They can't seem to bunt, though. And it's on Molly to teach them how in Spring Training. Sure the kids might not be doing it right, but I view this as a failure of management rather than a player problem. Bunting can be taught.
  11. I feel bad for him too. Embarrassed for him. As a fan, I'm embarrassed that our team has a guy going through this. I am wondering if the Twins are going to sit him, or if he's going to make history....maybe he already has? I think at this point Grossman/DanSan are going to have to platoon in the outfield. Buxton's going to have to ride the pine for a few months, gradually be brought along, and maybe he'll find his stroke in August. The Twins are hurting the team, Buxton, and the fans every time they put him in that batter's box. Maybe have a pitcher hit and have a DH hit for Bux?
  12. Crappy play, Sano. Just throw the ball to Castro and take the out. Frazier's as slow as a dump truck out there, too. Poor Mejia, rough inning, bad luck.
  13. Buxton groundout! Buxton groundout! I am seriously excited to see that. He kinda stung the ball, too.
  14. Glad to see Bux moved down....he clearly deserves to be hitting 9th but I think Molitor wanted to soften the demotion. Hope it's a laugher so Bux can settle down a bit and relax during his ABs. Last September he blew up in meaningless games. His one hit this season came in the 9th inning of a blowout. He CAN hit, but if there's any semblance of pressure it's a guaranteed K. Can't wait to see this Mejia kid! Good luck Aldaberto!
  15. I think many are frustrated right now because we know Twins pitching. And we know that having the worst batter on the team in the #3 spot will come back to haunt this team. Right now the Twins are giving up an out, right in the middle of the order. Every time Buxton's due up in an inning, the Twins have just 2 outs to work with instead of 3. Twins fans who watched this team lose 103 games last year aren't keen on that. And with the 4-0 start, most of us are waiting for the other shoe to drop....anxious and wringing our hands about the negatives. The commenter above makes a good point though. The bottom of the order has been getting on base, too. So no matter where Buxton hits in the lineup, he's going to be hitting with men on base and in pressure situations. The new Twins regime has dubbed 2017 the year that we get these guys experience. I think the Twins are going to just keep rolling Buxton out there, and they probably should. Buxton CAN hit the ball. It's all mental for this kid right now.
  16. Whee! Twins Win! (now, back to Byron Buxton....)
  17. OK Kinzler, enough of this monkey business.
  18. Anyone else excited to watch this Mejia kid tomorrow?
  19. With a 3-1 lead in the 8th, you can't take out Buxton due to his defensive value.
  20. It was gone on his 1st AB of the season when he struck out. He's worried/nervous/overthinking/etc. It's a mind game right now for this kid. Grossmann or DanSan in the OF tomorrow.
  21. Idiot White Sox fan, what a jabroni.
  22. According to crack reporter Marni Gellnar, he's a normal guy from Gilroy, California: The Garlic Capital of the World.
  23. Not just you. I've got him on my fantasy team too. We're a head-to-head league, so I've got to keep him on my roster all week long. So disappointed in both real life and in fantasy right now. Ugh.
  24. Crazy thing is that any MLB team would have their #3 hitter bunt with a guy on 1st in the 6th inning....just shows you how horrible Buxton is at the plate right now. And the Twins really have no option, they've got to let him work through this. He'll keep playing, keep getting plate appearances, don't expect a day off any time soon.
  25. Buxton K's. On the plus side, it took 4 pitches this time? Eeesh. C'mon, Sano.
