    No they're not, and this is why Mahle's likely either gone for the year or gone until the last week of the season. Incredibly bad luck with the Twins big pitching additions (Paddack, Mahle). Time to stop trading for guys with injury histories, maybe?

    A win, but it's still a team with the same old problems: the inability to score runs and a bullpen that will always make things interesting. This could have easily gone the other way - just imagine how low we'd be on this team if that'd happened. Until they do something like win 9-out-of-10 and blow out a good team or 2 in the process, I really don't see any reason to feel differently about the Twins today than I did yesterday. A team that's been treading water for months, finally getting tired and slowly sinking without putting up much of a fight.

    DFA'ing Duffey is understandable, but doing that and then deciding to keep running Pagan out there every 3rd day is very puzzling.

    Yeah I think we just have to sometimes just say "ya know what, I'm done with baseball for a while" and stop paying attention. I also have the MLB package here in Florida. It's not the money, but like you said it's the wasted time that really leads to regrets. Last year I turned off the MLB.com notifications on my phone and it really led to a much more peaceful summer. I turned them back on this year, but they're getting zonked again as of today. There's nothing worse than seeing a notification like "Angels 5, Twins 3" when you're using your phone as a flashlight at 2am when you're stumbling to the john.

    Losing games like last night's - blowing a winnable game in the 9th, wasting scoring opportunities, etc - are the worst kinds of losses in baseball. Every fan has to watch their team blow a game like this once in a while, it's part of the game and part of being a fan. Being a tride-and-true fan means that sometimes the rug gets pulled out from under you, but you come back and live to fight another day. But with the 2022 Twins this kind of thing happens twice a week. It's not even newsworthy when they blow games like this, it's become so commonplace. How much more of this can fans take? At what point does thinking about Gopher football, or Vikings, T-Wolves, or Wild pre-season games become a more rewarding pastime?

    Nice start for Mahle, he'll be great to have in the rotation next year for sure. Fingers crossed no fluke injuries for this guy. Clestino and Urshela with the big hits. Who'd a thunk it. Still waiting on Buxton and Correa to show up and carry the team for a 6-game win streak.

    Probably something like 6 games below .500, 3rd in the Central.

    No longer in sole position of 1st in the Central, the Twins and Guardians now tied atop the division. Chicago licking their chops 1.5 back, playing the Royals and Tigers the rest of the week. Meanwhile the Twins are still playing their "B" team every other game and seemed happy splitting a series 2-2 at home against Toronto. That loss (and many other winnable games thrown away) are sure hurting this team now. This team needed way more than Tyler Mahle and the 9 more starts he'll get before the end of the year. No sense of urgency, nobody to step up.

    Correa is supposed to be among the top MLB shortstops - he should be putting up numbers like Francisco Lindor, Trea Turner, Corey Seager, and Xander Boegarts. Yes he should, yes that's absolutely what we all expected and so did the Twins. But his numbers aren't even close to what those guys are putting up. In fact, shortstops who are having BETTER hitting seasons than Correa include Bobby Witt, Bo Bichette, Gleybar Torres, Willy Adames, Andres Jimenez, and some guy named Thairo Estrada. If you buy a Corvette and it runs like a reliable Honda Civic, you got a lemon. And yes, watching the lead dwindle to 1 game as the Twins fly out west to take on the best team in baseball is definitely adding to my bitterness on this matter.

    This is exactly where I'm at. Correa is essentially a slightly-to-somewhat above average player this year. I don't mind having an above average player on my team, but that's not what we expected from Correa. The Twins signed perhaps the most coveted free agent of the '22 season, a guy who was going to be the foundation for this team this season. And he's got 13 HR and 37 RBI as we head into mid-August. Unless something else is coming from Correa - and I don't see any reason to believe there is - he's a been a major disappointment and didn't deliver as advertised.

    Dude's on pace for 16 HRs and 52 RBI this season. There are really no excuses - it's been a down year for him, and Twins fans and management have every right to be disappointed in his performance. Let's admit it: he's been a bust.

    The blocking-the-plate rule makes sense. After all, dozens of MLB players every year were hospitalized due to collisions at home plate. In fact, over the years, thousands of major leag-----------wait, what's that? Out of the 20,000 baseball players who have ever played the game, 0.0001% of them ever left the game because of the collision, and as of yet nobody's career has been ended by such a play? WTF. This was a great baseball play. This is why fans go to games - to see a guy thrown out at home in extra innings. It doesn't happen every day, but it's that type of excitement and drama that true baseball fans just LOVE. It's the equivalent of a last-second hail mary, it's like a goal in extra time. In fact, one could argue that there is no more exciting play in baseball than this. Ruined by a couple of AL East-happy suits in NYC. If MLB truly wants to protect the players in this situation, how about this - if Merrifield gets injured on a play like that, the umps can review the play to reverse the call and/or fine Sanchez for malicious behavior. Similarly, if the runner goes right into the catcher (like Merrified did) and hurts Sanchez, that player can also be ejected and/or fined. Absolute horse-$h%@!.

    Great win. Nice to see Polanco showing up with a couple clutch hits. More of that, please! Thank goodness for Miranda and Gordon once again. I saw Miranda's season stats last night while watching the game, made me curious how he stacks up with the rest of the squad....this one stood out. Team RBI Leaders: Polanco 51 (88 games) Buxton 47 (81 games) Miranda 46 (70 games) Next three in line are Urshela, Kepler and Sanchez.....bringing up the rear we have Carlos Correa, who is 7th on the team with 37 RBI in 83 games played. On pace for what, 52 RBI this year with about 17 HR? At this point in his career he's a nice defender with an adequate bat. He might very well be darn happy to accept his option next year from the Twins, as Carlos hasn't done himself any favors this year. On a side note, the Twins are likely going to finish the year with their RBI leader having 75 RBI or something like that. Yeeps.

    Twins have one big inning and can't add on - again. Contreras, Beckham, Gordon and Miranda drive in the runs without any help from the star players - again. 5-run lead isn't enough - again. Bullpen blows the save - again. Baserunning blunders and fundamental mistakes - again. You get a feeling that if this game was played on the road the Twins would have blown it. Always good to get a win but this game clearly highlighted all of Minnesota's weaknesses. I've never seen a Twins team that's in a pennant race behave so casually when it comes to fundamentals. Still waiting on the big names on the roster to show up.

    Wow. If I recall correctly, his first ever appearance he was bludgeoned by the Blue Jays in Toronto. His last game as a Twin, mashed by the Blue Jays again. Most of the games in between were good, thanks for the service to the Twins, Tyler. I'm sure he'll catch on somewhere else and be in another team's uniform shortly. Twins need to cut Pagan as well, I see him as worse than Duffey. EDIT: Holy smokes the Twins are replacing Duffey with Cole Sands?!?!! Is it possible the bullpen just got worse?

    Polanco since the All-Star break is 7-36 (.194) while Correa is 7-39 (.179). I think it's safe to say Correa's season stats have certainly fallen short of my expectations. It's August, the division is up for grabs, the team is fading....it's now or never. And we're all sitting here waiting. Somebody, do something. Twins now 5-6 since the All Star Game, with 4 of those wins coming against Detroit.

    If Kirilloff finishes his career with the same numbers as Jason Kublel, I'd consider that a huge accomplishment. Let's hope AK gets healthy or his numbers will end up looking similar to those of Chris Parmalee's career.

    I think they did OK. We have to remember that here in 2022, Mahle is going to probably only pitch in - at most - 10 games for this team. If the Twins go 5-5 during those games, do we consider this a good trade? Getting him for next year is great, but in order for this to be a good trade for 2022, we're going to need Mahle to go 6-7 innings per start and the Twins need to go 7-3 or 8-2 when he is on the mound. Is that realistic? The bullpen guys I'm fine with, good additions, same goes for the catcher. Honestly I think the Twins (and many fans) are denying the problems that this team has on offense. Of course, the pitching has been so horrific that it's hard to blame anyone for that. But I really think to have a chance at a successful season, the Twins needed to add a bat and they didn't do it. And they probably couldn't do it, because they have nobody left to trade. Grade: C

    Great post, especially this part. Last night the Twins got 2 RBI from Nick Gordon and a HR from Mark Contreras. The day before it was Jose Miranda. Where the heck is everyone else? I mentioned in a post on yesterday's game thread that Arraez, Buxton, Correa and Polanco absolutely have to start carrying this team. Polanco's batting .237 now and has gone ice cold, Buxton's not even playing, and Correa & Arraez are sprinkling in a few hits & walks here and there but nobody's catching fire. All the pitching in the world won't help unless this team can score runs. They've been shut out more times than any other team in baseball, which is a very scary statistic no matter how their offense stacks up on paper.

    Ooof. Steer and Hajjar would have been OK, but losing Encarnacion-Strand also is a real punch in the gut. I was hoping other teams were asleep on his incredible rise through the system, but of course they weren't. As others have said, you gotta give up something to get something. So here we are. Hope this Mahle guy can pitch 7 innings because we still need bullpen help!

    If I recall, Sam Dyson was very good the year the Twins acquired him, but had been pretty average before that. Let's hope this isn't a repeat. Considering what was out there, and what they gave up, I like this move for the Twins.

    We got our man - Lopez to the Twins for Povich and Cano.

    Yeah, as mentioned in the comment above the Twins are in a real tough place if they don't want to deal Lewis or Miranda. I doubt the Twins land anyone noteworthy, probably a few no-name bullpen guys if anything. They really are between a rock and a hard place and I just don't see them having anything worth giving the Reds for Mahle.
