  1. Johnson, Jonah Coleman, Nick Singleton and Mike Washington would have all been more interesting then DJ Dallas and probably all more exciting than Jakobe Thomas, Caleb Teirnan and Max Bredeson who went in that range and earlier. Domonique Orange was the other guy, but so far everyone seems to like that pick. Me included.
  2. OK, good win, but I still have a half hour of work left, I was hoping for 15 innings.
  3. Still listening and Provus is still refusing to take responsibility for what he did.
  4. To those watching on TV, Provus just said, 'Who had Yoendris Gomez down for 22 for 22 in save opportunities this year?" So, if this doesn't work out, know Provus is to blame.
  5. ????? Does AI not have any access to the history of the Twins vs the Yankees??????
  6. I'm still holding out hope Toronto or Texas can catch the loser and knock them out of the playoffs. I'm not bitter though.....
  7. They all just do it in honor of Leslie Nielsen I'm sure.
  8. Jordan Mason to the IR. This should be interesting. It seems KOC has been aware since last year that Aaron Jones shouldn't be given a full workload, but the #3 back was rookie Demond Claiborne and I don't think this club likes to trust rookies. And based on Claiborne's pass blocking evals I've read, they probably shouldn't trust him in this case. Not to mention he isn't a between the tackles guy, like Mason is. DeeJay Dallas got put on the active roster, that's about as unexciting as you get, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more touches than anyone wants him to get. Using a 3rd-5th round pick on a RB last year seems like a good idea right about now.
  9. I've been a radio guy for most of the summer, but you're memory is the same as mine; umpires made a concerted effort to let rookies know where their places were. I mean, except for Yankees rookies obviously.
  10. 81-81 seems like a bad idea to me. The team can trumpet improvement and tell us a .500 team was actually good. I think there will be more impetus for change and big moves if they finish several games below. Shouldn't seem like a big difference, but I think the optics of a .500 season really does look different.
  11. Sure, but if they've stuck with him through poor performances while used incorrectly, we might as well give him some rope now that he's pitching well when used more appropriately.
  12. The odds are against him, like most prospects, but he's been much better since they moved him to high leverage situations. Walks, hits, HR and runs way down and strikeouts are up: Small sample size obviously (tagline of every relief pitcher) but I'm more than happy to keep pulling this thread to see where it goes.
  13. I don't like this 'Westopoplis' bit they keep advertising for on the radio. It doesn't sound authentic, it sounds like Golden Valley and St. Louis Park just hired a marketing team. Nothing against those cities, but they're just your typical mid-century developed suburbs with business parks, big box stores and parking lots. It's not like they have fun, walkable mixed use commercial centers like Robbinsdale, Hopkins or 50th and France.
  14. The Jets and their awful owner can get contracted for all I care, but they have some really good talent that's been wasted the last several years. Mostly because of that awful meddling owner. Frank Reich (and Carson Wentz, now that I think of it) has had absolutely brutal skill position players to work with particularly at WR. A young Michael Pittman was the best he had. Going back to Philly, it was Alshon Jeffrey. It's insane that Eagles team won a Super Bowl with an offensive roster that was basically signed from other teams' practice squads. The Jets have been compiling some pretty highly drafted offensive players the last four years, so yeah, if Geno Smith can just be somewhere north of awful, they probably have the pieces, at least on offense, to put up some points now that they have an experienced and fairly respected guy running the offense. But I hope they don't.
  15. I think Raya still has a bright future. I think the problem with the development was that the Twins finally identified that he was destined for relief, however, they were still having him work as a multi inning reliever until his July demotion. I get that going from starter, to long relief, to late relief SEEMS like the natural progression, but it shouldn't be, if you have a guy you want to eventually be in late relief, skip the long relief part all together. Long-men are your expendable inning eaters often used in blowouts. There's a reason teams don't have a dedicated long-man year after year, they're typically cannon fodder. Let him ramp up his velocity as a one inning guy and see what he looks like. And it seems since August that's largely what's happened and the results are promising.
  16. Came here to say the same thing. He started the year looking like a virile, early-middle-aged guy who just went grey early. Now he looks like he snuck out of the assisted living center mid-nap.
  17. I'm sure Tom would prefer a winning team, but for the end goal of generating fan interest. They pulled the team off the market and instead found investors because NBA teams are going for 3x as much as the Twins and nobody wanted to take on their 500M in debt from other businesses that the Pohlads are tacking on to the Twins. So I'm quite confident that while Tom is genuine in his desire to win the fans back, it's almost certainly for the motive of making the team more appealing to a future owner who will meet the desired price point along with taking on their debt.
  18. I don't think Diaw and Tait have all that much value. Maybe a third piece in a big trade, but not a headliner. But for what it's worth, I like Diaw and think he'll be a decent MLB player. He does seem a lot like Jeffers and Garver, in that they continued to improve and advance throughout the minors yet still while largely flying under the radar.
  19. The Rays JUST got their new stadium approved, and the new CBA has a good chance of compelling the Rays to spend money. I don't think there's a very high likelihood that Diaz is ever made available.
  20. I'd guess Arraez gets well over 20M per year. The big spending clubs are going to spend ugly before the CBA expires to milk the system one more time, and then after the CBA is renegotiated, all the small market teams will be forced to up their payroll and spend ugly on the whatever free agents remain.
  21. Yeah, how are they over-estimating their own 'talent'? Pretty much every team already has a Brosmer. And I doubt EVERY team was uninterested in dropping their version for Brosmer in favor of taking a shot on McCarthy, so my guess is they were/are holding out for draft pick compensation that's unreasonable.
  22. For the first 40 years of this franchise this team seemed to draft HOF OL at will. They almost always had at least one on the team, if not two. Not to mention all the All Pro and Pro Bowl players. Since Spielman took over, it's been an absolute nightmare. And obviously we're on GM three now so it's not JUST Spielman.
  23. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought both were pretty high on the free agent rankings, with Kelly coming at a discount solely due to age and injury history. Which, yeah.... But Fries was supposed to be solid. And young.
