  1. Tall order asking Meter to fill TWO rotation spots, but I'm OK giving it a shot.
  2. I wouldn't bench him for dropping a ball, that's going to happen, even to good defenders, and I think that it would send the message of "Don't make mistakes!" which is never going to happen. I'd save the benchings for an instance of not hustling, being too casual about chasing down a ball or tossing it too casually back into the infield or some other instance of "Stop being a lazy showboat!" I think that's the real message that needs to be reinforced.
  3. Hey layoff, it was only his first error of the year! Previously his defense was perfect!
  4. Yeah, it's funny Biston doesn't have that one thing. When we was there, we were told to get a cannoli. Eh nothing special. If beer counts, The Sam Adams brewery gets a thumbs up from me. Lots of free samples.
  5. Everyone. And since women are unable to play, it makes them insanely jealous. That's my working theory anyhow.
  6. No, but that's percisely the type of behavior my wife is trying to curb. You get busted asking a stranger if he wants to play Ghostusters one time!
  7. My wife doesn't allow me to lick strange women nor pee next to strange men.
  8. I also don't like Souhan's assertion that he deserves the job, but only because deserve has little place here. Baseball is so often broken down to human interest levels so we look at individual players and say "Matt Albers deserves the call up," or "Mike Pelfrey deserves another shot." Both are nice, compassionate thoughts, but why are we looking at what is deserving for one guy? The big picture should be what the entire organization and fan base deserves. 3M would never say Bill from accounting has been here for 30 years and has had a pretty good year so far, let's make him the CFO. If calling up Buxtin is best for the team, organization or fans go right ahead. It might not be.
  9. I'm not a surgeon except when I felt guilty about tearing the wings off a fly when I was a kid and glued them back on, but I kind of assumed if TJ surgery was performed on Aiken, they could make his "new" UCL the desired length and thickness desired, unless there was other structural issues with the elbow previously un-discussed.
  10. I guess the debates over defensive metrics can get feisty, but from my perspective the positivity/negativity arguments seem to have a whole different level of animosity. In fact, I don't think I'd view any other topic as having animosity.
  11. Great, you have to get an exemption from the commissioner's office to trade a guy on the DL if I'm not mistaken.
  12. I don't want to see a single Twin in DR Winter League next year. The front office should already be figuring out how to break it to the young guys.
  13. "Gotta love it....Joe West is just doing his job." As spoken by nary a Twins fan ever.
  14. Dick and Bert sure seeming to be gushing over solid but largely routine outfield plays by the Royals. I wonder why their perception is so skewed?
  15. Let's hope so, it didn't work out too well for them last year, and depending how one likes Twins class of Buxton and Berrios vs the Astros in 2012.
  16. I don't care about the money, I care about the years. Had Ryan made these moves 2011-13 it would have been a band aid bridge when there were zero young arms you could plug in there that made much long term sense. Perhaps the goal of being pseudo-competitive during that time would have actually been accomplished also. Signing average pitchers to long term deals at what was hopefully the tail end of the rebuild makes little sense.
  17. This isn't a control issue, it's a mental issue. Most of us here could throw more strikes than Meyer is. Dollars to donuts, if he's going to have to conquer the kind of mental block that comes with his current pressure level in AAA, he's going to have to do it all over again if/when he reaches the majors. If a guy is that fragile though, I don't think I'd ever want him starting a game of importance. All indications are that the front office already had these concerns, so they should have skipped one of these trials of mental anguish and acted to find out if he will be able to get a grip on his Scooter Huntitis or if a transition to the pen should start this year. I have a hard time believing he would be doing any worse at the MLB level than he is at Rochester. Besids, if he is a liability, Rochester is actually playing to win this year, the MLB club is not.
  18. Just playing armchair psychologist here, but I'm guessing the "positive" posts end up ruffling feathers mostly when they appear to the opponents to be grounded in blind faith. This seems to be what happens in ugly political or religious kerfuffles anyhow. I'd guess arguements based on math and science tend to draw less ire from many of us "negative nellies", not that faith in your club should draw such harsh rebuke.
  19. I argued for the front office to go young and not sign any long term contracts this offseason, and I wasn't the only one. Some people would complain about them not spending big, but if they're more concerned with filling the stands with a mirage of a product in 2015 than they are with filling the stands with a legit product in 2016 and into the future, than there is a serious issue with philosophy and this team is in trouble. If Ryan was mandated to give out head shaking 4-year deals to aging pitchers, then the Pohlad's should come clean and say it wasn't his idea. If it was his idea, than the attempt at a mirage product for 2015 should probably cost Ryan his job, because this just isn't acceptable as it's causing the true rebuilding effort huge problem.
  20. Arcia is too young to platoon. If there are attitude or behavioral issues, a team imposed suspension or benching could be considered, though not if the issues are arrogance or over-confidence.
  21. I agree, Meyer hasn't looked like a MLB pitcher. But does Allen have to be a miracle worker? Doesn't he just have to be better than Marty Mason?
  22. I agree, but then I still wonder why placeholders weren't fine until the young pitching was ready. Signing aging non-elite pitchers to long term deals has proven to be much more detrimental to a team's efforts than signing or trading for position players. There is no consistancy with this club. On the field or with the decisions in the front office.
  23. Right, though it's nice to know the movies have post Apocalypse all wrong, I guess we'll still have wifi.
  24. I guess about the same time we all need to apologize for Polish and Norwegian jokes we told back in the day. I always thought making fun of Detroit was good sport. Accurate, and good sport that is.
  25. After one game, Hicks is leading the Lookouts in batting, hitting .500. That average may come down a little, but he is also tied for the team lead in RBI, which is a position he is very familiar with.
