  1. Yes, that's a valid argument for a contending team; weighing "win now" vs "future" is a sticky subject in all team sports. It means jack squat when your team loses 90 games four consecutive years.
  2. Brian Dozier? Trevor Plouffe? Eduardo Escobar? The team regularly thrusts position players who have blase or lackluster minor league results into MLB roles. They don't do the same with the starting pitchers, and frankly, I don't think May and Meyer had lackluster minor league results. They don't seem to afford starting pitching prospects the same opportunities to work out their flaws at the MLB level that they do to position prospects. This might be due to the fact that they have had such an awful track record with young pitching the last decade, but I think an over-cautiousness is doing everyone a disservice. Afterall, a position player is much more likely to be a useful player into his mid-30's. In an era where signing free agents arms to multi-year deals is a fool's errand, you have to get all the pitches out of your young guys that you can before they become a liability. I don't know why minor league innings are any less of a concern for wear and tear on a pitcher than major league innings. From a logistiacl standpoint, pitchers should be called up before hitters. Lots of clubs seem to be figuring this out recently.
  3. Seems to me a guy at the front of the rotation who can give you 230 innings with a K/9 of 9.0 and an ERA+ of 130 would do the trick.
  4. No kidding, Aaron Hicks is a four time member surely meaning he's twice as good as Kershaw.
  5. So if they don't force the issue, we never see them? Some times the issue has to be force upon the youngsters, plenty don't show their full potential until they get to the highest level.
  6. Your sentence trailed off there, but I too hope they are promoted before they are out of options.
  7. There have, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that Milone could do it again. It's just frustrating that our team seems to go out of its way to try to foster those long-shots, more so than any other team.
  8. Carter's rare power in this age of baseball probably means he costs more then his deeper numbers suggest he should. I doubt anyone would be willing to give up Kyle Gibson but he might be the closest Twin to what Houston would look for.
  9. If he pitches to his potential: 2013 Anthony Swarzak. If he pitches to his floor: 2014 Anthony Swarzak. The anticipation to find out is almost killing me.
  10. True, but by the end of August, after Hunter slides through waivers, if the Twins did end up trading him would anyone notice if the team is once again in "sell mode". All but about 10 TVs are turned off by then.
  11. Ouch. Anyone remember where we left the pitchforks?
  12. I know there are going to be plenty of eye-rolls and some indignation, but this was his quote: “If I go out and I hit .280-plus and put up 17 home runs like I been doing the last couple of years and do 80 RBIs or more, I’m coming back,” Assuming those kind of hypothetical numbers are inline with more modern stats, why wouldn't he come back? Even if a guy had to spend most of his time at DH, those numbers would be useful to most teams. Now if those numbers were somehow accompanied by a .680 OPS, than eyerolls would be warrented.
  13. Why is Oliveros getting cut so soon? This team's already set on only having one guy in the pen who can hit 95? The way they've drafted lately makes it seem like they understand the theory that strikeouts in the pen are useful. They don't seem to practice that theory though.
  14. I actually think I dislike Milone in the pen more than Pelfrey in the rotation. I'm just not a fan of soft tossing fly ball pitchers coming into the game, especially with men on base. He'd probably have a fine ERA which would mask the realization that nearly all of his inherited runners score.
  15. For what it's worrh, Pelfrey recently said he wants to start but would accept a bullpen assignment if it came to that. I'd like to think Molitor is as open minded.
  16. If teams aren't offering anything for him of course you don't trade him, but the value he has to the Twins is of the immediate variety and I could barely care less about immediate value, we shouldn't be expecting gratification from the win column this year. He might end up being a better SS than Santana, but we are soon going to need to see if Polanco can cut it at the MLB level, and Micheal, and Gordon. I just don't see full time work available for Escobar in his future, and if you're not playing full time, you are absolutely expendable to a rebuilding team.
  17. Shouldn't a rebuilding team look to fill current, and more importantly, future holes instead of worrying about a bench player who won't play most days?
  18. I agree, he's great insurance. If this was a better team, I'd want to keep him. I'm of the mind that an insurance kind of player is a luxury a rebuilding team should put pretty low on their priority list though. I'd rather have an asset that better projects to fill a future hole if one was available. Of course this is all speculation, and one may not be available.
  19. Anyone willing to pay starter value for a bench player has a deal in my book. This team is rebuilding, most players should be available. Besides, if Santana falters, folks here most likely will be calling to see Polanco in short order.
  20. Than Arcia? That's a pretty bold statement.
  21. Must I be an eyewitness to issue a refutation?
  22. Getting a body fat measurement from that video angle and with him in full uniform is pretty impressive.
  23. I don't mind sending Hicks to AAA. Of course if the team does so and Schaffer performs to any degree of competance, there's a pretty solid chance Rosario or Buxton play well enough to beat Hicks to the big club.
  24. I am definately pro-leg kick. He had timing and contact issues with the toe-tap, if he's going to miss anyway, why not at least try to generate more power in the few times he happens to make solid contact.
