  1. Great on the spot analysis. I agree, the lack of lower body movement reminds me of a right handed Denard Span. He obviously lacked any semblance of power. Span's swing probably would cause many to be surprised he actually has a 6', 200+ lb frame, something that should be able to generate more power.
  2. It's a shame and I hope he comes back from this. I always did think he was overrated though, he never seemed like a #1 kind of prospect to me, probably because his bat didn't look much more than average. Above average to good power/speed combo, but not elite. Don't his minor league numbers look like they project to be what Brian Dozier did last year, only at SS? He seems like a guy who can do quite a few things well, but nothing elite which obviously is a nice kind of player to have.
  3. That's almost certainly true, but I also wonder if they also had him sparingly use his slider because the team doesn't want the extra stress on his arm at this time. The team sure seemed to blame the slider on Liriano's TJ surgery and were reluctant to let him go back to using it with the same frequency after his recovery. Hopefully they're just saving the pitch for this year and when he gets ready for the big stage.
  4. Oh my, that could be a problem. You think of big players like David Oritz and Jim Thome and Vargas at 24 is dwarfing them both.
  5. Please, just this once can we have the newest, coolest toy on the market?
  6. They must have just recently jumped on the neuroscouting bandwagon. Rumor is that Stewart is terrible at RBI baseball on Nintendo.
  7. Actually, I think there have are some issues with the Twins claim of the Senator's history. When they moved to Minnesota, Washington immediately got a new team, of course called the Senators, they then moved to Texas, who also claim the original Senator legacy. Clearly Killebrew and Allison never played in Ft. Worth so the Twins should be right to claim them, but it would be similar to the new Cleveland Browns claiming the old Cleveland Browns legacy instead of the Baltimore Ravens, who were the actual original Browns franchise. The Twins are the Senators in my book, but two teams fighting over the rights to a franchise that was known as a loser even more so than the Cubs sounds like it could produce some pretty silly drama.
  8. Ha that's awesome, another well deserved national nod! Funny thing is that I didn't even click those links because I thought to myself, Parker already broke that stuff down on TD!
  9. But somebody's got to talk to the pitcher about leaving too many bullets over the middle of the plate.
  10. You prefer "video game assesment" instead? Since game consoles have come out, the kids have always been saying that video games help their eye-hand coordination. I guess perhaps at the very least this could help test that theory.
  11. I don't know, but I think the Twins are tied to their deal for awhile. Didn't they have to renegotiate with FSN after their failed attempt at Twins TV or whatever? That was only five years ago or so.
  12. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-george-springer-who-isnt-george-springer/ Some good similarities. It talks about Springer's better pitch recognition. I think Arcia can improve greatly in this catagory though, his minor league numbers suggest so anyway.
  13. I think most fans would care, particularly if they stop to consider that at some point, those managers are bound to find themselves in a position where they become well aware their services will no longer be renewed the following season. Gardy is a stand-up guy, but I'll use him as a hypothetical example for the purposes of the arguement. Fans questioned Gardy's decisions throughout his tenure, more so at the end. What kind of mayhem do you think would be going on in this forum if we found out he was betting on baseball in his lame duck season?
  14. I might argue the opposite, he should be allowed back into the game, even if the HOF wants to keep him out. No one's putting up much of a stink these days about Mark McGwire coaching and by all accounts, Jason Giambi is bound to become a coach if not a a manager in short order. It could be argued that reinstating Rose may either encourage other players/coaches to gamble, or Rose may do it all over again, but the same could be said about the steroid users as well.
  15. But what was his UZR? Not that it matters, I wouldn't trust it anyway, so I think this is a good candidate for crowd sourcing. Cheif you were at the games no?
  16. If Stewart's proponents are right and his K numbers get in line with his stuff, I'll probably be more excited about him than Berrios or Meyer. But we have to see it first. Also, Willie Banks always seemed soooo close to breaking out. His 1993 season was a huge improvement over 1992 and I thought he was going to be the real deal the next year. Of course the Twins traded him that offseason and he never got his control tamed down after that. Andy McPhail must have hated Willie. He traded him to the Cubs in the 1993-94 offseason and then traded him away from the Cubs once he landed that gig.
  17. I know, who in their right mind would want seven kids?!
  18. As he should. I doubt anyone can fand any substantial fault with him for the team's failures the past four years. I'm still surprised it Vavra was picked over Steinbach. Full disclosure: I was looking for a new personality for the bench job, not that I thought either man caused the team to lose 90 games a year.
  19. This is generally true, although if Rose is putting 5K down on the Reds when they are facing Neal Heaton and Andy Hawkins, but only 50 bucks or "forgets" to bet when the team is facing Dwight Gooden or Nolan Ryan, some might interpret that as hedging his overall bets. Those that interpret the bets that way then may question Rose's level of commitment to competiveness in those games. Not saying that I'm one of those people.
  20. That would suppose that Knoblauch still has friends. And that we are misinterpreting his bitterness. But anything that sullies those sacred pinstripes is just fine by me!
  21. So how are we judging the "best" five on in this scenario?
  22. I loved Radke, but he just seems like the quality of player that other teams would look at and roll their eyes. To be fair, I feel somewhat the same about Hrbek and he was one of my favorite players. Mauer will clearly get his number retired. Kaat missed out on getting into the HOF by two veteran committee votes, if he had gotten them, his number almost certainly would have been retired. Agree with it or not, I'll bet Hunter and Nathan get considerable HOF attention. At this point neither are likely to get voted in, but I'll bet their names stay on the ballot for quite a while. That will force the team to consider retiring their numbers, if only for the PR to remind folks of the glory days. Hunter's status as far as getting his number retired may hinge on quite a bit on how he performs in his reunion tour. If he Jim Thome's his age 39 season, he'll be remembered as a legend, like it or not.
  23. It is a double standard, and like you said, crapping on Pettite would sound better if it came from a clean player. Still, it's hard to see Chucky's retort as anything more than sour grapes. Knablauch's trade got the Twins some good players, but another unforeseen benefit now seems clear, almost none of his tarnished legacy rubs off on the Twins. He's a Yankee problem.
  24. Well I always did assume guys who develop a receding hairline in their early 20's probably have to at least consider the possibility giving up on their dreams. I tell ya, I'm not sure how you poor balding SOB's find the will power to get up in the morning. Bravo to all of you!
  25. Per Brock's point number one, I think it's a little early to say the Twins are good drafters. We need to see the payoff. We all thought the Royals farm was awesome not that long ago. I agree with the rest though. The Twins could stink for the next decade, but no matter how we feel about the Nolasco, Hughes and Santana signings, Pittsburgh and KC would have never committed that much money to free agents when they were terrible. That tells me, if all else fails they may be willing to Padre their way out of the basement.
