  1. How could Ruesse not report on the impact Hunter was/would have on Fryer?!?
  2. It could happen, but the way he likes to talk, I think he's destined for the media. I'd guess MLB network would be interested in him if he can keep his political views to himself.
  3. Right it seems unlikely, and using revisionist history, we'd then have to ask why if they are willing to blow their budget now, they didn't blow their budget last summer to get even more of these slot busters?
  4. We've all done the defensive discussion to death, but any metric that says Hunter was worse in the field than Arcia and Willingham combined probably needs to be taken with a grain of salt. He's probably below average out there now, but he's not going to be the worst defender in the league.
  5. Yes, but we might feel differently if instead it looked like this: On a side note, day 1 and Hunter was seen talking to Buxton. Walking with Buxton. Grabbing bats together and Hunter (for the camera) making a joke.
  6. Darren Wolfson tweeted that Mike Radcliff plus scouts (that's a plural word I notice) were on hand to watch Alvarez's workout. He's the 18-year-old newest Cuban sensation with a 97 mph heater and reportedly a pretty decent changeup. The bidding is supposed to be high and it would count against each team's International signing allotment. It's probably nothing as the Twins haven't appeared to be involved in talks for Cuban players in about 50 years but this Tweet isn't accompanied by Doogie's now common disclaimer about how nothing is expected to materialize out of the trip. Also, I'm still feeling stung after being repremanded by Jack Going for saying the team should put Tony Oliva's Cuban clout to good use; he implied they have been. https://twitter.com/DarrenWolfson/status/565628340221255680
  7. I wanted Rios, but Hunter can provide some real intagilble beneifits for this club. You walk a fine line when trying to keep things light while still drumming into teammates heads the importance of being accountable for the sake of winning. For the most part Hunter has seemed to take on the task and done it well most of this century. At least from the players perspective.
  8. Stewart is quite a bit behind the other two for me at this time. If his strikeout deficiency really is due to an organizational ban on his slider or some other mandate regarding his pitching technique, but it will be remedied this year, then I very well may be able to get on board with him being #1. Bottom line is he has to prove he can miss bats before he should be taken seriously.
  9. Right, innings, not appearances. I don't see him as more than the longman/mop-up-guy, but this club always seems to want to indentify one of those early.
  10. Yes, Klaw stubbornly will not get away from the height/plane issue. His loss, but since that has been his only gripe about Berrios from Day 1 and Berrios cannot change his height, Klaw probably can't change his opinion too much without being a hypocrite. Also, bonus points for anyone who can get Klaw to call you an idiot or condescendingly tell you that you don't know anything about baseball for disputing his opinion in one of his chats.
  11. That BB decrease from AAA to the MLB is very intersting. It could very well show that on the job training at the MLB level is the best way to learn. It could also show that MLB hitters are more agressive and AAA hitters are concsiously trying to improve their OBP, something that it seems is often a prerequisit for many MLB clubs. It could also show that AAA pitchers are more agressive knowing how much teams, scouts and people who perform prospect rankings value strikeouts.
  12. Rebuttals to Stauffer in the rotation should first consider this. While I'd guess the percentage is a bit exagerated, I can't see a scenario where Stauffer gets the #5 gig except for a rash of injuries. Bottom line is, he's an asset as a bullpen arm and he looks like another futile NL reclamation project as a starter. To me he looks like Anthony Swarzak's replacement and an upgrade at that. I could see him among the league leaders in appearances, particularly if the Twins can resist the urge of keeping a 13-man pitching staff due to all the veteran starters they have acquired.
  13. I would like to think they would not go after Wimmers judging by their willingness to take HS arms the last couple years. Back then, those guys could demand high signing bonuses, but in hingsight, only Zach Lee signed for more than Wimmers did. Ugh, still frustrating though.
  14. BB in college are probably something to be more skeptical about. I'd guess once the pitcher gets to full season ball however, the BB rate is probably a decent baseline for future projection. Seems to me the numbers start to become a little more guessable by that time, assuming we're not dealing with a small sample size issue.
  15. Right, it's hard to nitpick considering how well they treated the Twins, but they clearly put a ton of value in the SS position, you'd think he'd be higher by virtue of position alone unless they don't think he'll stick.
  16. This list doesn't really appear to do this, but in my opinion, bad contracts should also be evaluated on how they affect the team. Even if Mauer's contract was terrible, it's not prohibiting the team from adding payroll.
  17. Not to mention that after Hoey's shoulder surgery he had huge control issues. Aside from his first start, that doesn't appear to be a major concern for Burdi.
  18. Interesting that they have Kris Bryant all the way down at #5. I'm not a subscriber so I don't know their reasoning but they must have some dirt on him that other publicatoins do not.
  19. I really don't know a ton about him off the field, but he always seemed like one of those extremely coachable players who just loved to play. That's why it surprises me that he isn't involved with the organization (or any MLB organization). He seemed like the kind of guy who would find himself back in the dugout again some day. Perhaps after his children get older?
  20. Why not? If he was, the team could just trade him for a top SS.
  21. Arcia and Meyer, just for fun.
  22. Low velocity wouldn't bother me if they still generated strikeouts.
  23. Good article, and I really hope he can make a comeback and be a nice asset for this team. However, I was so disappointed with pick. That was still during the time when it was easily predictable that the Twins would take the low ceiling safe college arm over the electric HS arms. There were so many that year. So many. Man I was mad; Jesse Biddle, Zack Lee, Cam Bedrosian, Aaron Sanchez, Noah Syndergaard and Tijuan Walker were the next six HS arms picked him. I wanted Lee, but any of those guys would have been nice. At least things seemed to have changed, they'll take HS arms now.
