  1. Can't wait for the team to transition Sano back to SS also. Looks like this list is made using the cut and paste tool. I applaud the initiative in rating this many players, but clearly, it overwhelmed them.
  2. Ha, I forgot about that. I'd like to brag but if Chris Parmelee's landing spot had been a Family Fued question, Baltimore and Toronto probably would have been the top two answers on the board.
  3. I agree with the fast start, this team needs confidence. I don't think the Twins will contend, but I also think the AL Central is going to stink this year. KC played over their head last year, I don't think they play at that same level if they continue to have a below average offense. Detriot's bubble is ready to burst any minute, though if their vets hang on they could stretch it out another couple years. Chicago really improved this year and if all their free agent parts play around their expectations, they could be good, but that doesn't usually happen. In other words, I think a 78 win team may be able to contend for much of the year and I don't think 78 wins is that overly optimistic for the Twins.
  4. And our C devensive profile. Got to love those versitle players.
  5. It just seems to me that guys who strike out that much and don't really have the hit tool will only at best turn into a three true outcome hitter, and I doubt a guy like that will get pitched around enough at the majors to approach his kind of BB numbers in the minors. Sano also has a high bust likelyhood, but he looks to be a better hitter so I like his odds better. At least Sano can get some XBH aside from the HRs too.
  6. Sano might strike out too much and he may bust, but there is no way Joey Gallo's ceiling will ever be higher than Pedro Alvarez and I'd find it much more likely that he ends up like Brandon Wood.
  7. He got a lot of opportunities, my problem was that they were pretty sporadic. I always wanted to see him get a chance to start consistantly for a few months at least. It always seemed like when he'd slump, which to be fair was often, he wouldn't get much leash. Of course when you're cold, then told to ride pine, you're probably never going to get hot. The team was losing, 4 years in a row, not sure why they wouldn't let some of these guys take their lumps every day just to see what would come from it. I suppose it perhaps had something to do with Gardenhire managing for his job the last four years. That's not always a good forumla for developing younger players.
  8. The NL should switch to using a DH simply so my favorite team stops getting fooled by free agent arms who's stats are inflated by getting to face a pitcher three times a game.
  9. That's great. You'll have to forgive us (me) for our naivete as even diehard fans never hear of any rumors of the team trying to sign Cuban players. If that's not the case, I appologize and am more than happy to be inaccurate on the subject.
  10. I remembered him as a coach and knew he still did some instruciton, but I didn't realize he was involved in other ways. I'd like to think his Cuban ties would be put to use should the club ever decide to dip into the new Cuban market.
  11. Orioles trying to find the next Chris Davis? If they're looking for the 2013 version, good luck. If they're looking for the 2014 version, Parms might exceed expectations.
  12. Muchas Gracias Jack!
  13. DH vs no DH would be close to a "push" for me until I factor in all the at bats Twins minor league prospects would lose due to what would certainly be a comprehensive reversal of the rule. Vargas would have lost a quarter of his development time had he not been playing DH in the minors.
  14. No, Plouffe was yo-yoed around too. He got three games here, sat for a week, would get demoted, then called up for an injury replacement, play every other day, then start for a month when he got hot and benched again as soon as he got cold. He was used very similarly to Parmelee. This team, or perhaps more so Gardenhire, was not patient enough to develop young guys. I don't want May and Meyer up and down all year. I don't care if they struggle, they're wet behind the ears so the odds are they will. When they finally get their shot, let them ride out their problems at the majors all season long.
  15. With how tight lipped this organization is, we'll probably never know, it's surprising this got out at all. With the addition of Santana on a long term deal, I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins were making some of their top pitching prospects available. I haven't gone back to look at the timing of the Santana signing and the various trades, but Heywood, Upton or Myers would have required the inclusion of a top pitching prospect. Hard to believe, but it's not completely without merit.
  16. Has there been some discussion on this? I think Walker stays in FT. Myers. It seems to me a promotion to the high minors would almost seem like an endorsement or even worse, resignation that his awful plate discipline won't be improving. He's not making any kind of MLB impact if it doesn't.
  17. I liked the Biyd pick at the time. Still do. You aren't going to find an ace by drafting soft-tossing, high contact college pitchers. I'm less disappointed with a high upside bust like Boyd than I am with a low upside bust like Wimmers. Maybe someone can clarify, but to me it depends on what he got busted on. If I recall, getting busted for Adderal in season is a PED violation while getting busted in the off season is a drug of abuse violation. To Thrylos' point, might this have been a diet pill? Are they categorized similarly? If so, it was stupid of him to use, but at least shows he might be making an attempt at being healthy and staying in shape.
  18. I never meant to imply anyone within the organization is racist, just that they have an unhealthy aversion to change. Had Tony Oliva been given a player development or scouting position after his playing days, I'd assume he'd be just as inclusive (and insulated) as the rest of the suits. Regardless of their motives, this is welcome news, even if the cynical voice in my head raises a few objections.
  19. I like the initiative, though the dark part of my soul also sees it as a way to keep the country club intact without having to replace many parts with outside (Hispanic) voices.
  20. Agreed. The bottom line is we need to find out about the guys with a higher ceiling and the sooner we find out, the sooner the path to winning will become more clear. Maybe they aren't the answer and free agency is the best route. We just have to know. Let's see if we can get a usable assesment on them in 1.5 - 2 years as opposed to the four years we saw with Parmelee or even the three years we are about to see with Hicks and Pinto.
  21. This is surely what the Twins will say, regardless of what actually transpires. To play devil's advocate though, what if the options are "take the 12 best guys" in an effort to get to 80 wins or so, or "take the ten best guys plus the two guys who have higher potential" because their development plan now requires them to be challenged at the MLB level?
  22. Is this really the Blue Jays first time dealing with a player from Tennessee?
  23. Clearly the Twins love his ability to minimize BB, and his dedication to the game. Should Meyer struggle early or get digned up, I wouldn't be surprised if Berrios gets a call up before our giant fireballer.
  24. Pinto certainly could be an attractive trade chip, though unless a trade was occuring as we speak, I don't think it would stop the club from bringing him to Twins Fest any more than it stops teams from trading guys two games before their Bobble-Head give-a-way games. If it ends up the Pinto has value at catcher, I'd rather not move him. I have little faith that Suzuki will be much more than replacement level offensively going forward.
  25. Are you suggesting that we should be happy about the fact that Vargas just wants to play baseball and hone his craft even at the expense of glad-handing sponsors and posing for photo ops? That stuff wouldn't fly in New York; geez, the yeoman attitudes we put up with around here!
