  1. 2013 saw Chris Parmelee replace Ben Revere and Pedro Florimon replace Alexi Casilla, the replacements were far and away more strikeout prone. I've mentioned several times that Brian Dozier completely changed his approach in 2013. In the minors he was a low power but high contact guy, which wasn't working in 2012 and saw him demoted. In 2013, he was a different player and my argument has always been that once Josh Willingham (and Trevor Plouffe) showed everyone how to crush the ball to left field, Dozier took up that approach as well. He wasn't good offensively in 2012 but had a 17% K rate, while he became pretty solid in 2013 while increasing that number to 21% (and only going up from there). This might have been influenced by Brunansky, but it also could have been an organizational decision, but even so, for the better part of 2 1/2 years, it was a good one. I'm not sure that Brunansky really has the pull to tell him to knock that crap off at this point.
  2. Hey, everyone knows what happened last time both the Twins and Braves finished last in their divisions! They got really high draft picks the following year.
  3. Well the Twins heavy focus on power/strikeout type players in the draft and international free agency also coincided with Bruno's hiring. I'm not saying he's a good hitting coach, but we've known what Sano, Rosario, Vargas, Santana, Arcia and Park were long before Bruno ever touched them, was he supposed to turn those ducks into geese?
  4. There is only one consistently good catcher in the game today. Unless they target Buster Posey, there probably shouldn't be a significant trade to make. I want the Twins to fix this, but it's not like the team is on lack-of-catcher-island alone, this is just a really, really bleak time in baseball history for the catcher position.
  5. "His ball does that thing that Twins haven't seen, or tried to replicate, since Santana was traded."
  6. The Phillies are surprisingly in contention and they just lost their token veteran lefty in the rotation. It looks like they have a couple of young catchers in AAA and AA which look close, but not so exciting that they'd take a ransom. They already have their catcher of the future, and their veteran leader at the MLB level. A trade thus far hasn't worked the first time, but drafting hasn't been working either and good catchers rarely ever become free agents. If this team is going to get another useful backstop, I think continuing to try the trade route is still the best bet.
  7. Than you'd really hate to know this is my third beer break. But you wouldn't hate it as much as my wife, so mums the word.
  8. I just took a beer break from doing yard work and listen ending on the radio. My question is, why are there six pages already?!?
  9. Until Josh Willingham destroyed the left field seats at TF, Dozier was a high OBP, hit-to-all-fields hitter. I am still surprised he didn't give up his super-pull tendencies this year after his prior approach failed the second half last year. I know he'll get a much longer leash, but I'm ready for Polanco, the team needs his on base skills.
  10. How would anyone measure and evaluate that? Arcia clearly is passionate, unfortunately he has too often been villainized and likely in no small part because of his temperment. Sano too appears to be an emotional and vocal player as do Santana and Rosario. If we are OK with the emotional leaders being non-American, I think there is plenty of fire here to work with.
  11. Yeah, I'd start him over Milone, he's out of options after this year, best to figure out if he can cut it this year, this team isn't going to compete now. I don't want to be screwing around with these decisions next year. Let's have as many questions squared away as possible and try to make a run next year. Let's see what we have now in these young guys, let's get a usable read on them.
  12. I don't understand why the three young pitchers have to be culled to one. I'd roll with them all hoping the lumps they take this year pay off next year.
  13. How is he supposed to get ready if not by starting?
  14. I've been saying for years that the Wisconsin pro basketball team was causing much more damage than they're worth.
  15. Yes, if doing somersaults in the air on a motor bike is what's required to do what ever sport it is you're referencing, I'm not letting my kids do that. I would be absolutely furious if someday I had to tell my son that he can't play baseball because I don't want him taking PEDs. I don't know what legal steroids your talking about, but the horse is already out of the barn on that one. We don't just go and legalize stuff just because there is something more dangerous that is legal. That sounds like a pitch from Big Pharma. No body is making things illegal, they are already illegal. We don't have to draw a line, the line has already been drawn, we can just leave it right where it is.
  16. What are bike stunts? Not sure I understand. No one is asking to make anything illegal. People are asking to keep the status quo. If MLB allows players to take PEDs, everyone who plays will be expected to take them. I'm not cool with them being a defacto requirement for my kids if they want to play sports. Not to mention the MLB future talent pool would crater due to the lack of participants, as the kids who don't take them will get chased out of or give up the game entirely.
  17. Kids aren't told that they won't make the team or they will let their teammates down if the don't drink alcohol. When it comes to protecting my kids, I really stop caring about what's fair.
  18. That's not an argument for PEDs though, that's an argument against those other products. That's like saying we might as well elect (insert your personally most reviled candidate) because he won't be as bad as (insert your most despised president).
  19. Not all are healthy, and they're only healthy if administered by a doctor. That's fine for these pro guys, but if you open the door there, then it becomes acceptable and expected for minor leaguers, college players and high school players, and high school players sure as hell aren't going to be getting them from doctors, they'll be getting them from the seniors on the team who will be telling the freshman that if they don't take this stuff then they are letting the team down. The stigma and the consequences in place now are the only thing stopping a tidal wave of unregulated drugs from being pushed on our kids, and it's already scary the amount that are out there. No thanks, I love the MLB, but I don't love it more than my kids.
  20. Park looks great at 1B. Kind of ashame he's at DH. Corner OF is also packed, even if he could go to 3B that's filled too. We probably just have to accept that we have a pretty athletic dude at DH.
  21. Cruz get's a ringing endorsement from his party's former leader: http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/28/politics/john-boehner-ted-cruz-lucifer-stanford/index.html I don't like anything that makes Trump look good but this is pretty hilarious. And apt.
  22. I agree, this would be his most useful. He might find himself on the bench more than he'd like as a super-utility guy, but the Twins could use a RH bench bat with some pop anyway.
  23. Well they suddenly were lacking three starters in AAA.
  24. I want the young hard throwers up, but going with youth has forever been considered the risk. Going with the vets has always been the safe choice.
  25. I think it's quite the opposite.I think a reluctance to use young players in any sport often stems from job insecurity. If a veteran blows up and fails, well the veteran gets most of the blame as he is experienced and has expectations to succeed. If a manager uses young players, it's often viewed as a risk the manager is taken on. When they blow up and fail, the manager gets the blame as "he should have know the kid wasn't ready!"
