  1. Plus even if the GM wants to give it a shot, he's not the one making the pitching changes. I have a feeling that the current field manager would have a hard time holding his nose and keeping these guys in multiple innings, particularly if they allow a base runner or two. Allowing multiple base runners has been nearly an automatic hook for the past two managers.
  2. Ha, this is what I had to say regarding the Dozier for Giolito trade in the other thread jus 11 hours ago: "At least it's not Jim Bowden. He's done this stuff before and his always sound unbelievably off." http://twinsdaily.com/topic/24348-dozier-for-giolito/page-2 Am I a hypocrite for hoping the Twins could make this one work? Giolito sounds good too.
  3. I agree with most of the sentiment above, the free agent class it pretty poor, I'd not like most of them on this team and nearly all that are desirable, likely do not reciprocate that feeling with the 100 loss Twins. Only way I'd really want payroll to increase is if the Twins somehow swung a trade or two for some young guys who have already been extended or would need to by the Twins.
  4. I wouldn't be sad to lose Grossman, but his ability to get on base is kind of rare in the organization right now. He doesn't need to be in the field, but he's a pretty decent pinch hit option late in the game if the catcher is up and you just need a base runner. Now personally I'd hate to carry a guy on the 25-man for that singular specific reason, however if rosters are expanded to 26 I don't think any of us can predict what the best dynamic for each team will be for that one extra spot until we start seeing these situations play out. Well, I mean I can probably already predict that most of us hope it doesn't mean adding an 8th arm to the bullpen.
  5. I like the deal, which probably means it's too good to be true. Quite a few of the team proposals seem a bit off balance so I'm not sure where this writer's fairness gauge truly lies. At least it's not Jim Bowden. He's done this stuff before and his always sound unbelievably off.
  6. And I could really care less. He might be the party's most competent leader, I'll take phony in a heartbeat if the alternative is a sociopath with his finger on the nuke button truly surrounded only by 'yes men'. Good lord, please let it be phony and noble.
  7. If Allen and Falvey are really on board with the "teach all the pitchers a good changeup" philosophy, bring him in and once it's clear it's not going to work out for Johan which would be approximately February 14th (I see pitchers and catchers report February 13th), see if he wants to, and has what it takes to work with the young guys. Also, I'm not one to want to bring back old players, but Santana's changeup was special. If there's any thought he could teach it, I'd at least be interested.
  8. And for all we know the Brewers could still take him off the 40-man later and try to sneak him through waivers, we see that kind of gamesmanship happen all the time.
  9. I wasn't much of a Walker believer, but I'm surprised. I don't like to lose players the team doesn't have to lose. However this move shows real decisiveness by the new front office. They must have already decided that Walker had zero to little chance of helping the team and decided there was no need to draw out the inevitable. Even if he proves Falvey and company wrong down the road, I'm happy that the new leadership isn't wishy-washy.
  10. Ha, we haven't even seen Trump get upset about something yet and use his new found power to retaliate against his underlings. Can't wait for Pence to slip up and get replaced by Trump's son-in-law.
  11. And the tone deaf prosecutors of course are appealing. Good lord, cut your losses before the losses also include your jobs. And freedom of your police department. If I was involved with this case, I would encourage everyone to wash their hands of this. Unless your future plans involve solely being a reality TV personality, I don't see how any of these people can realistically expect to have jobs outside of Manitowoc County if Netflix actually makes a Season 2. Never underestimate stubbornness caused by pride.
  12. Geez, all these platitudes thrown around about these players is only going to make harder to cut and trade them. Enough play time Falvey, time for Terminator mode.
  13. Great stuff, this is what is hard to grasp for me though. People want an end to wasteful spending and yet many of the same people who call for it, also call for increased defense budgets even though the US military is the most heavily funded expense on the entire planet and it dwarfs every other country's expenditures. I'm more than OK ending overseas military activities of any kind even if it's just to save money, not for the altruistic reason of stopping conflict.
  14. Well she's likable which most undecided voters said both Trump and Clinton were not. Also as the nations leading consumer advocate she likely would have played very well with the Rust Belt unions. She didn't need to expand the Dem's base, the Dem's base was good enough to win, ask Obama. She needed to keep it from shrinking. The working class would have backed her more than Clinton now that we know experience was not required.
  15. Most people didn't have a problem with the left, they had a problem with the establishment and Clinton. Abd by most, I mean less than half.
  16. I didn't even know Brandon McCarthy still played. I liked the answer, but I wish Eno would have given the poster a hard time about the question.
  17. Which reminds me, the Twins organizational restructuring has been extremely quiet. Did anyone hear that Gardenhire was leaving/was asked to leave? Would we know if others have as well? I guess we still have that tight-lipped stuff going on even with a new GM. Not that they shouldn't, just an observation.
  18. I agree. The prosecutor may be holding his or her nose simply because they've already seen what happens when the officer doesn't get convicted. The social unrest is just as bad as after the original shooting. There is no doubt there are going to be some jury members who will have a hard time giving a police officer a hard sentence particularly if his union publicly backs him.
  19. Yes. Though the first episode was lacking most of the tech-driven sci-fi that every episode that follows dealt with. Episode one is really good though as it starts with what seems like a somewhat comical premise only for the snickers to come to a roaring halt once the ramifications of the plot really hit the viewer. Also, the first two seasons are only three episodes each, so it's not like it's a huge commitment.
  20. The bit about Dozier being second choice to Kinsler was only conjecture by Steve Adams at MLBTR. He's not reporting, he's only gathering the info and trying to provide a narrative. For all he or anyone else knows the Dodgers may be trying to play the Tigers and Twins against each other. And Dozier may be second choice for the Dodgers simply because they know he is more valuable and already assume they would have to give up less to get Kinsler. They may prefer the lesser talent at the lower asking price, though encouragingly it looks like Kinsler is making it difficult for the Tigers to move him.
  21. I would also add: 3 - When he doesn't agree with something the analytics team tells him, can he dispute the data with data of his own or historical anecdotal evidence? Or is it only based on his "gut"?
  22. Well all we heard about was Trump getting ant-establishment/outsider votes. I don't know why Warren wouldn't have gotten those. Going in, I thought Warren's political inexperience would have been her biggest draw back. Now we find out it actually would have been a huge benefit. Plus, she probably could have made Trump cry during one of the debates.
  23. Yeah, I get that part, I'm just not sure about the timing. He's set to be a free agent in 2022 not 2023. As far as I can tell.
  24. I'm four episodes into season three of Black Mirror. It's really good. It's an anthology, but not like the FX shows where each season is it's own story, in Black Mirror each episode is a self contained story, like The Twilight Zone. Actually now that I think about it, it's almost exactly like the Twilight Zone but with great production value and even more moral ambiguity. Fewer aliens and the sci-fi is more realistic as all of this technology does seem to be right around the corner.
  25. Well you generally say it anyway, even if you don't believe it.
