  1. I don't think Soler has shown more power in the minors but the guy is 6'4" and goes about 225 and has a pretty powerful swing, I think it's all about projection for him, he looks like he might be a power guy. Maybe. I'm also surprised by this. Does Soler have more value than I'm giving him credit for, or does Wade Davis have less for some reason. With how much money and more importantly years Chapman, Jensen and Melancon are going to get/have got, I'd have thought there would have been a feeding frenzy for one year of Davis.
  2. That's a positive take on the situation, hope that's the angle. I'd think a veteran in this year's poor free agent pitching market would wait quite a bit longer before accepting a MiLB deal, though it looks like when he signed with the Pirates it was on Dec 3, 2015 which likely was during the winter meetings and that must have been a MiLB deal considering he only pitched in the minors for them. Or perhaps there is a trade off, he'll never get a firm guarantee that he'll start if he gets a MLB deal but it would probably be all but certain if he took a MiLB deal, and he's not ready to slot himself into the pen for the rest of his (likely short) career.
  3. It's not that Solar is a terrible player, it's that he is a poor defender and doesn't have any speed which has been what KC built their offense around. He's a square peg on a team created to accommodate round holes. The defensively flexible Javier Baez would make a lot more sense to me. Maybe now that they are going into rebuild mode they'll try another strategy. Or maybe Dayton Moore kind of lucked his way into the previous winning formula and perhaps isn't a great GM, which is what most people were saying prior to the 2014 season.
  4. Darren Wolfson tweeted (can't post from work) that the Twins are looking at Clayton Richard! Excuse me, that exclamation mark was a typo which occurred trying to clean the vomit off of my keyboard. Maybe they just want him for the pen, but after decades of having issues missing bats it's going to take me a long time to come around on guys like this. I've been conditioned to ruin my keyboard thinking about them. Also, I really hope nobody is fooled by former SD pitchers anymore. I mean the book is out that they nearly all are bad once they leave "America's Finest City".
  5. Well Republicans are ripping Trump too, this one surprisingly: http://www.cnbc.com/2016/12/03/sarah-palin-calls-out-trumps-carrier-deal-warns-against-crony-capitalism.html
  6. High level: when you keep doing the same thing with mostly the same personnel year after year and it's not working.
  7. For what it's worth, I wholly appreciate the OP's passion even while I desperately want Dozier traded in an attempt to finally get the pitching/prospects this team needs to get back on track.
  8. I'm interested in Pomerantz if his value is based more on his AL numbers with Boston, not his NL numbers in San Diego. Because Boston can't really pretend that the pitcher you saw last year in SD is the guy you'll be getting, no Padre pitcher has put up the same numbers after they leave that team. Not one of any significance anyway.
  9. Clarify that you mean Johan, not Ervin. Throw in Danny though for good measure.
  10. Don't they then just say that Santa having to be white isn't racism for some asinine and completely un-followable reason then call you a PC idiot?
  11. Got it, yeah that's BS. My area has pooled school funding, which is why I'm not upset that my kid is going to a school in a low income neighborhood even though we live in a pretty nice one. I guess I was naïve, I wasn't aware that other areas still funded schools in that bizarro alternate way. How is/was that not considered a practice enabling Redlining? I would have thought the FHA would have stopped that nonsense.
  12. Yeah, it's a good thing he got there after Betts, Bogaerts, and Bradley got to the majors. The team would probably still have Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford too. I mean good for him for going for it, but just like how I didn't like Terry Ryan trying the same strategy over and over and over again, Dombrowski's never changing tactic also hasn't paid off in a championship in two decades now. That's a really good team though, maybe this year.
  13. I've always been jealous of the White Sox having Sale, but didn't the Red Sox just do this last year? An ace lefty with diminishing velocity, how did that David Price deal work out last year? Geez, and Sale is more of a flyball pitcher than Price and he's going to Fenway. Maybe it will work out, but I have my doubts so I'll be glad if Boston sabotages their stud offensive nucleus with a rotation that's past it's peak. Not thrilled to see this return for the White Sox at all.
  14. I'm just curious, how do you want to fund education? Generally the property owners ARE more affluent and they can better afford to fund education as opposed to an income or sales tax which people of all walks of life would fund more equally. Frankly for me how it's funded isn't an issue, not that I don't understand why it is for others. For me, I really hate that so many cities/states have local elected officials that are too cowardly to decide what their area educational needs are and put educational funding to a public vote. Grow a pair, you were elected to make those decisions, not to hide and do nothing until the next election.
  15. I don't know if it has happened yet or if a player and his agent will ever come to this conclusion, but if a guy is going to accept a 1-year reclamation deal but he wants a shot at a WS ring, it might be wise to initially sign with a non-contender simply so when July comes around you know that only the real contenders will come asking to trade for you.
  16. The more time he wastes, the less time he'll have to deport useful members of our society and let BP turn the EPA into the O(il)PA.
  17. Unexpected meetings with Gore and Romney? Please, this is just some kind of casting set up for a general election loser reality show. McCain, Dole, Dukakis and Kerry are likely lined up next. Clinton might be a hard sell, that one's probably still a bit too fresh.
  18. I don't want the Twins to lose their 2nd round pick next year mostly due to its value; the Twins should be in the driver's seat at draft time and be able to game the situation due to their draft pool as the Astros have done recently. But I'd guess the idea of signing Bautista would be that you could trade him in July for prospects much better than a 2nd round pick. Problem is he's been hurt a lot lately.
  19. Also if you didn't have a stud reliever, but really any kind of average reliever who amassed a goodish amount of saves via skill, unusual circumstance or sheer dumb luck last year.
  20. Trevor May is under team control until 2021. I'm not giving the White Sox Buxton and Berrios simply so I can see Chris Sale get some token Cy Young votes during his last couple of peak years pitching for non-to-barely contending Twins teams. His velocity dropped 1.7 MPH from 2015 to 2016, those peak years may already be in the rearview mirror anyway. He needs to be headed to the NL like yesterday.
  21. I was happy the Twins attempted to get some hard throwers, there was a clear change of direction after the Alex Wimmers draft. However getting hard throwers alone clearly wasn't the solution as it did not result in missing more bats at the MLB level. I don't know what the solution was but it's clear that at least one person from each of the other 29 organizations did as no other team struggled with that issue like the Twins. This one singular issue shows why an organization can't remain insular and only try to copy league trends without having outside perspective and insight. I'm glad Falvey and Lavine are here, hopefully they keep adding others with unique visions and theories and fix most of our systemic issues.
  22. I wouldn't think so, but what would the Royals do with Solar, why would they be interested in him at all? He doesn't fit their system in any way. Not that it couldn't be mis-information slipped out there by the Cubs.
  23. I don't believe Dozier makes as much sense for the Yankees as he does for other teams as they need to use their resources to get starting pitching which isn't available the Old Yankee Way this year, that is big bucks thrown at the free agent market. I also don't believe Brian Cashman when he says he never checked in on the situation.
  24. Sounds like Dayton Moore isn't doing a very good job of reading the closer market. I hope he does trade one of the AL's best relievers to the NL for a fourth OF type who is a poor defender with no speed. Did Moore already forget what got his team to the top? I already thought KCs nice little run was ending, but this just makes no sense.
  25. I'm not sure of the players involved to make it come true, but my perfect trade will be the one that only leaves me slightly jealous about what the White Sox are about to get for Sale. Probably one of those "I'll know it when I see it" deals.
