  1. All I ask is that the choice is a once-in-a-decade clear no-brainer, he's willing to go under slot and he isn't represented by Scott Boras. Not a deal breaker, but I'd also prefer that he's able to catch and play SS and pitch with either arm.
  2. That's true, but that's no different than with free agency. At least now the top 10 players from Cuba can't all go to the Dodgers because they won't have the cap room.
  3. Right, this issue has been dealt with in the form of the new international signing rules, too bad for him it happened a year late, but it has been addressed. However I think it's presumptuous for him to assume he would have gotten the $4M (his $2M contract + the $2M tax the Astros paid for going over their signing pool). The Astros may have seen that extra $2M tax as the price of doing business but may not have given it to the player if that wasn't what they valued him at. Still wish there would have been a draft with draft pools similar to the Rule 4 pools.
  4. A high tide floats all boats. The MLBPA wants any and all contracts to be high as it always helps the players when negotiating new deals via free agency or likely in this case arbitration. Except for those 25-year-old scrubs down in A ball with a wife and young child who likely will never get to the MLB. Screw those guys, they should be happy to play for way less than minimum wage. No need to try to help them with the new CBA.
  5. Does Alan Thicke count as a musician? He wrote lots of TV theme songs. Only 69
  6. I was in quality and control once, I can say I did feel like an outsider from the rest of the company. However I can also say the group we were 'quality controlling' absolutely would have neither quality nor control without oversight or adult supervision.
  7. OR Jack what do you think about using crowd sourcing as a tool even if just for a reference? I think you should hit up the intelligent and dedicated guys and gals at Twins Daily for some hypotheticals and see what the data says. Oh, they might be better equipped to help us out from the Legends Club, make sure they get the tickets.
  8. I'd like to see someone tell their new boss that they weren't open to new ideas!
  9. Levine states that Jack Goin has a vision and they are looking to surround him with investment and personnel. It also lists Jack as the Director of Baseball Research. I'm don't recall seeing Jack get that title anywhere, sorry if I missed it. If this is new news to Twins Daily, congrats to Jack, I think I can safely say that nearly all of our posters here will be happy that Jack is sticking with the club.
  10. I don't think I care for that package nearly as much as any rumored Dodger package. I'm not big on Weaver, he looks like a back of the rotation guy at best. He's a very slight right hander with a 91-92 MPH fastball and doesn't have a breaking pitch. He belongs in the NL.
  11. I'm glad the Twins are more active in the DR and Venezuela the last 5-6 years but that was at least a decade too late. Where were they in the late 80's and 90's when the league first started bursting with Latin talent? I'm also glad the Twins have signed some high upside international guys recently but we can't pretend that they are doing all that they can when half of the league was blowing past their draft allotment and made raids on the market. For a team that has been a bottom feeder the last half decade, they should have been doing everything they could to get prospects including going over budget, they absolutely did not do everything they could. That's history now though, the team has new leadership and hopefully less restrictions. We don't need to dwell on past failures if they actively try to rectify them, it doesn't mean we can't acknowledge that these areas used to be past failures though.
  12. Nice research. Those results are about what I would have expected. There seemed to be a shift in philosophy around 2010-11, specifically they tended to draft "safe" picks early, mostly college pitchers. Seth's results above certainly look like a high floor/low ceiling approach by the Twins.
  13. Looks like a typical USA Today article. Enough to be different but with mostly cut and paste write ups.
  14. The intel briefings are useless to intelligent people. https://www.google.com/amp/www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trump-explains-skipped-intel-briefings-im-smart-person/amp Trump explains skipped intel briefings: 'I'm, like, a smart person' Like, totally. For sure, OMG only like losers go to intelligence meetings. So lame.
  15. I also hope they aren't still making decisions first and foremost based on attendance/fan support.
  16. Ross would be interesting but I've already written off all former Padre pitchers as being busts outside of PETCO, so I'd only be able to secretly cheer for him so as not to be a hypocrite. I like Rajai Davis as a right handed platoon option, but I'm still going with Ryan Raburn for that roll as Falvey would be familiar with him from his time in Cleveland. He hits lefties very well; he'd be a good fit with Kepler/Rosario in the corners.
  17. China and Russia are hurting every bit as much as we are economically, more so likely. No one's going to war unless it's some kind of cyber war. I'm pretty tech-unsavvy so I have no idea how that would work, previously I would have thought the US would have a significant edge but I'm not so sure at this point. Also, I hate that I have to like it, but Trump is ripping on Lockheed Martin after doing the same to Boeing last week. He's after both for wasteful defense spending. I want the money to go towards infrastructure and education but I guess if the next evolutionary step is from physical war to cyber war, I'd rather funds went there than to stupid billion dollar planes that are under-utilized.
  18. Giving away Santiago and taking back Kazmir or McCarthy would be a push as far as rotation spots go in 2017. I'm not sure if the Twins would be willing take on more money or if the Dodgers even actually care to shave payroll. I'd move both Santiago and Santana if feasible. I'd be offering Santana up to any clubs who have asked about Quintana or Archer but are too squeamish about the asking prices. Which should be every team that has asked about Quintana and Archer.
  19. Pfft, been there done that. I stopped losing sleep over those the second time Pelfrey put pen to paper.
  20. I do. I thought the Dodgers were going to lose both of those guys. It makes a ton of sense from both the Twins and Dodgers perspectives to wait for a Dozier trade until these two were sorted out. Seeing it laid out like this makes it look kind of obvious too that these deals likely would have always had to have been figured out first.
  21. Or With the Kenly Jansen deal and the rumored Justin Turner contract, I wonder if it's possible the Twins have already agreed to take back a less than desirable contract from the Dodgers, Scott Kazmir or Brandon McCarthy perhaps? The contracts are ugly but the Twins could probably put either guy to use. What if any trade holdup wasn't about prospects, but was actually contingent on Dodgers re-signing their guys. Perhaps the Twins said they would take on more money but wanted better prospects in return, something the Dodgers would only go for if they signed their two guys back.
  22. I have to think there's going to be a pretty big push to start calling the "alt-right" for what they are, white nationalists or neo-Nazis or something. I can't imagine mainstream Republicans are going to stand for that, they already tried to distance themselves from that during the primaries, are they really going to be OK taking on those labels if they become widely used?
  23. If the hold up is truly due to the Twins wanting another useful MLB-ready piece like Brock Stewart but the Dodgers are unwilling to do so, I wonder if a guy like Pedro Baez would be a compromise. He's a BP guy for sure, but looks pretty legit and might even be the Twins closer from the get go. Or maybe the Dodgers already think Baez is more valuable than a guy like Stewart anyway and he's also a deal breaker.
  24. He also appeared to make that guitar disappear, or at least defy gravity. Two things I wouldn't have put past Prince. That was an awesome performance.
