  1. My mistake. Looking at that list makes one realize Reusse seems to juggle between being spot-on and being outright petty with his yearly selections. Which I guess pretty much sums up his entire journalistic career too.
  2. The problem is that even if there was fraud, there almost surely is going to be no way of knowing if Clinton actually had enough votes. Trump supporters will still be able to claim he would have won anyway, Clinton can't be given the job just because fraud was proven.
  3. I opened this thinking that you already had the answer. Ryan was the first person who came to my mind. Giving it more thought though, my money is on Norwood Teague by a hair over Ryan simply because taking part in and looking the other way on unwanted sexual misbehavior is a more damning offense than putting a bad baseball team on the field.
  4. I agree and that's why I say she's viewed as the lunatic fringe. I can't believe she'd actually buy into that crap though and her comments regarding it were something along the lines of 'we should consider all possibilities'. Pandering to lunatics isn't the same as being a lunatic; politicians from all parties do it all the time. I'll take her pandering to anti-vaxers over Trump's pandering to the David Duke crowd. Even if she is a nut, better her to do something that's going to ignite outrage than Clinton, nuts do stuff that frustrate people all the time, it's the expected operating procedure for them. She already got charged for spray painting a bulldozer at the Dakota Access Pipeline site, agitation is part of her platform anyway, or so the narrative would go if an investigation turns out showing that there was nothing fishy about the election results.
  5. Yes, this is a great move since Stein is already viewed as part of the lunatic fringe, not that she actually is. Clinton and the Democrats have to keep their noses as clean as possible on this to keep any hope of bipartisan unity regarding rigged elections.
  6. His minor league career 2.5 BB/9 average?
  7. Those damn Democrats really need to start looking out for those rural folks: http://www.inforum.com/news/4165520-klobuchar-obamas-renewable-fuel-requirement-we-couldnt-have-better-thanksgiving-news Good thing they have the GOP who looks out for their interest and not say the oil companies who would prefer not to encourage the use of ethanol.
  8. Doing something about it doesn't have to be public and doesn't have to mean armed conflict which is what people will call for if they even half suspect. But that wasn't what I meant, I meant Clinton shouldn't challenge the results even if there was fraud, which absolutely should be thoroughly investigated. Our nation is divided and Trump/GOP supporters would see a Clinton challenge as an affront to how they voted. If fraud happened Trump automatically becomes a Russian puppet and a notorious symbol most Americans, even those that voted for him can rally against. Getting rid of him and putting in Clinton would look like ripping up the constitution to half of our population with Trump becoming a sympathetic figure to plenty of people. Trump can be impeached, he can be ousted but Clinton can't get the job now. Either way, unless we know for sure, yes we absolutely shouldn't encourage mass hysteria in our country. If we did have irrefutable evidence, then I guess I'm on board with considering all options.
  9. I would guess it's the opposite, otherwise good pitch framers would likely suffer extreme swings year-to-year once it's known that they are good pitch framers and I don't think that happens. I think umpires appreciate good defensive catchers and I also think they would prefer a 3 hour game if possible. I think if the umps know that if they are working with a good catcher, they tend to give him the benefit of the doubt.
  10. I hope she doesn't, to me the consequences of a war with Russia or a civil war here seem at least plausible if fraud large enough to actually impact the results are uncovered. And I'm someone who is absolutely sickened and embarrassed by the current results.
  11. Is that true though? Because to me it seemed he struggled due to fastball command and I never heard anyone with concerns about his command. Generally his control was thought to be a strength from my recollection. The concern I heard was of him not having a good enough downward plane, but he was still missing bats when he was in the zone. To me Berrios' struggles were the exact OPPOSITE of what the industry doubters thought.
  12. According to Buster Olney, the Tigers are asking for the moon in exchange for their players, including Kinsler. Link below but I don't have InSider so I'm just taking the word of MLBTR. http://www.espn.com/blog/buster-olney/insider/post?id=15027 If that's true, that's great as my opinion has been that the Dodgers are only more interested in Kinsler than Dozier simply because they would assume the price to acquire him is less. Hopefully the rumors about Kinsler being the preferred target have convinced the Tigers that he is truly a better player than Dozier and they stick to their guns. Maybe I'm biased, but I don't think a reasonable team would rather have Kinsler and I think the Dodgers (and Nationals) are likely reasonable teams.
  13. I read that too, though the article I read kind of buried the part where the cyber-security experts said there was virtually no way Russia could have hacked those stations without being detected. I was wondering why this didn't come up sooner considering how much people were talking about Russia hacking and meddling prior to the election. Frankly if Russia did do something, as much as I despise Trump and want him out, I think it would be best to not find out. There would be some pretty awful consequences even if those that were wronged would be justified in poking that bear.
  14. It's probably just as much about the pitchers thinking that they can get those calls as actually getting the calls. I think the Twins and probably all Minnesota teams self-fulfilling prophesies have been of the negative variety for a long time, swinging that the other way might create more wins than anything else they can do this offseason.
  15. They know, they simply only care about the here and now. I wish they'd come out and say that too, it doesn't sound very altruistic but admitting that they put less value in tomorrow's humans than today's humans (actually corporations if they are being super honest) is a lot better look than feigned naiveté in my opinion.
  16. I agree that all teams can or could afford the International free agents as the system currently stands, but I disagree if the premise is that all teams can afford them going forward. We've already started to see some crazy budget blowouts and if the system stays as it is, there's no reason to think it won't get even worse. Also, even if a small market team could afford ONE of the top guys, the small market teams can't compete with the sheer volume of top prospects the big markets can scoop up each year. I'm all for a draft structured like the current Rule 4 draft. I'm all for increasing the draft pool and implementing a pool floor as well if the MLBPA wants to ensure thrifty teams don't intentionally avoid tanking these players value purposefully as well.
  17. If this signing infuses the pitchers with more confidence, even if it's only a placebo, it's probably worth it. Not sure that it will, but signing a defensive catcher is really about getting the most out of your pitchers. I'd like this deal a lot better if the team also signed Geovany Soto to complement him. Probably not in the cards but he'd be cheap and we really have no clue what is going on in Falvey's head.
  18. Maybe a little, but I doubt much. He's looking for a short term deal anyway to rebuild his value. If he gets a one year deal what good does that do the Twins? If it's two years then it means he and his agent almost certainly know he won't be catching next year and want the second year to rebuild value.
  19. So you sign a catcher in the 2016-17 off season who probably won't catch until 2018, if ever?
  20. That was my initial thought, but then Andrew Cashner went and signed a 1 year deal. I'm not getting wound up about any signings or non-signings this year, but that's the kind of deal I would have been interested in, if he performs just OK he can be flipped midseason. Cashner might be kind of an isolated case though, there aren't many bounceback types looking for a 1 year deal with his upside. Doug Fister and his 86 MPH fastball maybe? I threw up a little typing that though, so I guess I'd probably prefer not.
  21. Not me, I'm so lost. I don't understand any of this stuff. I'm going to need one of you guys to come over to my house and bring all the new gadgets and set this stuff up for me. Also, no, I'm not old but I'd still prefer you stay off my lawn.
  22. Good read, and kind of damning. No doubt a defense can make a pitcher look better than he is but I agree with the above post, a pitcher can make his defense look better than it is as well. I'm not a great defensive metric mind, but just one specific data point of reference we are familiar with: Torii Hunter in his last year in Detroit had all kinds of terrible defensive rankings base almost entirely on his -18.4 Range Runs component of UZR. Everyone was concerned when the Twins signed him yet the next year he was .3 in the Range Runs component and had a positive UZR. It's not like he got faster, more likely it was due to positioning due to the manager's decision or it is due to the ballpark.
  23. Ryan Pressly has been pretty decent in the Twins pen. Pressley's career WAR is 2.5. Of all the Twins 1st round Rule 4 picks since 2007, only Kyle Gibson has topped that. Maybe the Twins should petition to change the CBA so they can trade all their 1st round picks in the Rule 4 draft for Rule 5 picks.
  24. I just hope the team doesn't have to start all over again with the guys they have now. If guys like Berrios, Gonsalves, Stewart, Romero, Jorge and Jay have to go back to remedial classes to catch up on things that the previous regime may have not been doing correctly we're going to start running out of option years. I don't want to have to cross my fingers that these guys can be retained after being DFA'd like Cleveland did with Carrasco. I'll have patience, as long as it doesn't start costing the team prospects. Of course at that point it's unlikely I'd lay the blame at the feet of Falvey.
  25. I get it, but I just don't see where you spend money this free agent season. The board seems pretty agreeable to signing Castro, but that's not really adding payroll and the Twins clearly agree considering they sound like a top contender if not the top contender to sign him AND they allegedly have said they aren't going to add payroll.
